We only visit restaurant for lunch. Menu del dia for price of 12 euro. Just ordinary food, but most important is the historic interiors. Oldest hotel at Gran Canary. Take a drink in the bar or sit in the small dining room and feel the atmosphere. General Franco had his last night here at room nr 3 before he started...

Don't miss out on this gem of a hotel. The food is very reasonable and the drinks are great. The staff are a joy and the place is very popular with all sorts of local people. This is a serious boozer. Make it part of your itinerary like Franco did but please, unlike him, pay your ( very reasonable) bill.

Whether you like this hotel will, of course, depend on what you want. We wanted a 'real' Spanish hotel and found a great example here. Booking – the hotel is not on any of the usual sites can be booked by email with the aid of Google translate as required. Arrival – the airport bus stops at San Telmo bus...

We did not stay but ate & drank outside on a number of occasions (& this was early February), it's just a nice place to relax have a drink or a meal at a reasonable price , it's all basic but what is wrong with that ?

We made a late booking in mid-Jan and stayed for a week at 50euros a night (without breakfast) for a double room with a balcony overlooking a lovely square. I suppose it could do with a bit of refurbishment, but in a way that would detract from its charm. It's a traditional building with Spanish/Moorish features - the type of...

We booked in for two nights in Novenber and stayed for seven. The hotel is not a formulaic chain type place, it is unique and charming with very helpful staf and management. Whilst the rooms are basic the housekeepers take pride in maintaining high standards. The hotel is in a great location for visiting the old town and the bus...

This hotel is cheap and here you get what you pay for. It's an old building with no elevators. It's faded but has its own charm. Franco left from here to the civil war in 36 and I suspect if he returned now he would see few changes. The accommodation is basic and clean. The hotel is on a plaza...

We were there for lunch only. Sat near the bar where an incredibly charming man was working making coffees and drinks singing and whistling his favourite tunes. The bolognese we ordered was not up to standard, and after he realised that due to half empty plates, the replacement meals were ordered. He chatted us up and offered his "cortado special"...

A lovely part of Las Palmas with it's own little bit of history, supposedly the place where Franco stayed and made his final plans prior to the start of the civil war. Beer and sandwiches were good too!

The Hotel Madrid is an institution in Las Palmas as it is supposed to have been where Franco stayed immediately prior to leaving for the mainland and the start of the civil war. It is now a well established hotel but can not comment on that as we only ever ate there or enjoyed a refreshment in the sunshine watching...
