This is a clean and safe place close to the metro and only a 15 min walk from the Guggenheim museum of Bilbao. I slept in a room with 4 beds and my roommates were all kind and respectful. The hostel reception was always ready to answer questions and address any issue. Highly recommended

I stayed at Akelarre for two nights. It is a nice, smaller hostel with charme. Staff was nice. Make sure to list your arrival time since reception was closed from around 22h till 8h. Breakfast is pretty basic with muesli, toast and jam nad some packed sweets but good to fill you up. Since staff comes at 8 you might have to wait a few minutes to start. There is a lot of information in the hostel about Bilbao in the region. Some flyers are old though (they had flyers from different walking tours and they said the tours start at 9/9.30 am but they post start at 11). So maybe check online again if it's still accurate to make sure. The people staying in the hostel is a mix of people: some are doing the camino de Santiago (mixture of older and younger people), some come over from France for a weekend getaway, some students for a semester abroad, some "regular international city tourists"... It is a bit outside the city center. Walking to the bus terminal takes about 25 minutes and to the old town about 55. There is a metro station close by (sometimes only the top entry is open). You can buy a metro card for 3€ and fill it up with whatever amount you need. Then you only spent about 1€ per ride. A Lidl supermarket is just around the corner. The key diposit is 5€. …

The receptionists were very kind and helpful, the rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms always very clean. The hostel is in a very strategic position, 10 minutes walking from the gughenheim and the stadium. Breakfast is included and you can have coffee or tea for free at any time in the common area. Recommended!

I arrived late and left early. this was just a bed for me to sleep in for a few hours. The thing that stood out most from this place is the staff. I was leaving before breakfast so they made me a breakfast pack and they waited up for me to check in. The rooms were comfortable and clean so this did the job for me.

A nice, small hostel in a quiet area of Bilbao (but still only 30 minute walk max. to the city centre). The staff are really friendly and helpful, and the rooms are pretty good. It's not the fanciest hostel in the world, but for 20€ a night you can't complain at all. I've stayed there three times already and I'll stay there next time I go to Bilbao! Eskerrik asko!

Very nice and helpful staff, the room was clean and the atmosphere in the hostel was open and calm. I really liked the style they had there slightly Asian comic style inspired. They also had free breakfast included which is nice!

It's a very cozy place, just a few rooms, people are from all ages and you can find a lot of people from el Camino. The cheapest in town, I found a very good qaulity. Breakfast is good, plenty of space in the rooms and receptionist are absolutely adorable! Lidl around the corner is a plus.

Very good Hostel - especially in that price range. We stayed for one night. The staff were all incredibly friendly, and let us check in early (it was bucketing down with rain outside) as well as leave our bags for the day. Breakfast was basic, but very good considering it was included. An important thing to remember - this hostel isn't in the city centre. But you can easily get there from the Metro, which is close by. It's on a main road, but the rooms were really quiet. The best bed I've slept in for a while. The rooms were quite stuffy, but that won't be a problem really now that summer is over. All in all, I would definitely recommend it to others to use - the staff are fantastic, and there's a great vibe! Just remember that it's quiet time after 11 p.m.

This was very clean and modern, with a good breakfast selection (as far as hotels are concerned) with fresh fruits, as well as the normal carbs. The beds were so comfortable and the rooms cleaned daily. Free tea and coffee were offered whenever guests wished. The only downfall was the temperature in our room. It was so hot, and the air cooler (not conditioner) was so noisy that made it difficult to sleep. Perhaps an old fashioned fan would have been better.

It just took us 5min walking to come to the river on which along it´s a beautiful walk to the center (which also doesn’t take long – alternatively we could have also taken the metro). We spend there two nights for a very good price. The dormitories, bathrooms and everything else were absolutely clean and the beds were nice mattresses (unlike the ones we had on the next day in San Sebastián). Our Basque friend told us that “Akelarre” means as much as “night of the witches”. Starting from the logo, this is implemented in parts of the facilities making it look quite authentic. The people on the front desk were very friendly, showed us some sights on a map and helped us to find the best burger place we’ve ever been at. (no spoilers here ;-) ) All in all a great place to spend the weekend or even longer!…
