We recently stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. The Hotel is situated on a hill top near the small town of Friedrichroda (around 10 mins walk uphill). The Hotel provides perfect views of the The Thuringian Forest. The famous hiking path Rennsteig runs through it. The Hotel is recommended for either families with young kids or old people. Some...

Every summer we travel to the Czech Republic and break up our journey with a night at a hotel in Germany. This year we stayed at the Ahorn Berghotel in Friedrichroda. We chose this particular hotel based on price and the fact that it had a restaurant - we want hot food after a drive of 600 miles. First impressions...

It's a big hotel with great panorama view. Good choice for nordic walking, running or hiking in the forest in the mountains. The restaurant is good and varied. The staff is moderately kind and helpful. The worst is some strange smell all over the corridors.

I'm in my mid 30's and being born and raised behind the Iron Curtain, I have great sentiment for socialism as a whole and for socialist architecture. This hotel is a typical example of such. It's a massive object with number of elevators and loads of personnel. I reckon they've been getting same guests for the past 30 years, coming...

We have stayed at that hotel many times and always like to come back during our Germany trip. The kids loved it and there are so many activities to choose from. The buffet is delicious and especially for someone with severe food allergies there is lots to choose from. Will definitely return.

This hotel stay was part of an 8 night historical tour of Germany. The hotel was a 'factory.' Too big, too many people, and lousy food. A waitress even ripped me off, because she saw me distracted after giving her a Euro bill for more than my drink cost. Very upsetting. AND very un- Germanlike. I now have a terrible...

I had stayed in this hotel earlier in the times of the DDR with my parents and it had not changed much which is not necessary a bad thing. The location on top of the hill was great and offered numerous opportunities to hike and explore Friedrichroda and Thuringia on foot. Inselsberg only a few kilometers away and sow as...

We stayed at this property as part of a business trip. It is placed up on a hill in this tiny little village. Built by the Communists, who also stayed there "back in the day". Comfortable. Tiny, sparse bathroom, but functional. Resturant upstairs is really good (Argentine steakhouse).

The hotel did not live up to our expectations - neither the location, the quality, the facilities, the service, etc. The rooms were poor quality and had not been renovated recently as the facilities in general. The food in the restaurant was also disappointing in quality. Given that this was our most expensive stay during our travels to and from...
