I paid extra for a view of the Porta Nigra and was glad I did. And the room size was amazing! The contents ditto. You could sit and look out at the ancient monument. The vast choice at breakfast was utterly impressive. The widest selection I have ever seen. But it was expensive! I tried to dine in the main area one evening but hadn't realised you had to make a reservation so wasn't admitted and can't comment on the selection or quality of the food in the evening, which was a shame. I ate instead at the small establishment on the ground floor, which was good. The attitude of the gentleman who turned me away from the main restaurant area could have been a bit nicer! The central location for exploring the city is good and there is a pleasant pathway through trees in the middle of

My husband and I stayed at the Mercure Hotel 2 days in the last week of December 2014. Our room had a view of Porta Nigra. That is beautiful day or night. The location is great. We walked 3 or 4 easy blocks from the train station to the hotel. The hotel is easy walking distance to the city center and most of the sights are also easy walking distance. Our room was spacious. We had no trouble with the heat. Everything in the room worked. The bed was comfortable. The coffee and tea makers were wonderful to have. We enjoyed stopping at the hotel bar after walking the city on a very cold day. The staff is friendly and helpful. If I return to Trier I will stay at the Mercure again. And I do hope to return - Trier is an amazing place to visit.

We loved the views of the Porta Nigra from our room and the breakfast room - very calming but engaging at the same time. As the previous poster, the rooms were very hot for some reason, but it was snowing outside and so it was not such an issue for us. The rooms themselves are cosy - they don't have interconnecting rooms unfortunately, but the Accor Family Extra deal at the second room for half price was still well worth it. Breakfast good value, again the view made it. Overall couldn't fault it, would stay there again in Trier (which itself is absolutely worth seeing for anyone with any interest in things Roman.)

With such a fine view from the Porta Negra facing rooms this hotel was bound to please but is also an efficient comfortable hotel with good facilities. It is conveniently situated if arriving from the north by road and has both surface and underground car parking. This is public parking by the way....it costs 10 euros per day so would recommend getting your money's worth and parking under the hotel which has a very handy lift to the hotel above. Access is via the the front or side, if driving from the bridge to the north neither of these entrances is accessible so either drive past the hotel and take 3 left turns or drive on through the lights outside then take the first left and left again thus doubling back.....it's easy, but only if you are aware of this! Staff are very

Lovely location, very clean, great breakfast buffet (view on the porta nigra). Also very nice bathroom, comfortable bed, and very friendly staff. Only issue was that the heating in our room was on overdrive, meaning we were sleeping in our underwear with the windows open (hello streetnoise) in december... Staff sent up a mechanic to fix this while we were out, but when we returned the room was still a sauna... Other than that simply fabulous!

Had a one night stop in trier. Friendly staff. Room was as expected. Nothing special. Bad was clean. Breakfast ok. Nothing more or less you would expect from mercure. The view from the room to the porta nigra was great.

we stayed at the Hotel Mercure and visited the Christmas markets (great) and Roman remains and museums (even better) in Trier. Hotel Mercure is conveniently positioned just a few steps from the ancient Porta Nigra and the pedestrianised city centre. almost everything is in easy walking distance. the room was comfortable, clean and pleasant, the breakfasts excellent (they usually are in Germany) and the staff friendly and helpful with sufficient spoken English to help. a minor problem with our bathroom radiator was resolved promptly and without fuss. wi-fi is free and at least adequate speed, there is a PC and printer in reception. tea and coffee making facilities in the room, unusual in Continental Europe in our experience, but welcome. recommended

Enjoyed a 3 night stay in Trier Germany with family and friend, we travelled with worthing coaches which was absolutely brilliant from pick up to drop off home. Went to see the Xmas markets in trier which was very nice, everybody we met was friendly and could speak a little English, we were lucky because my step father is german which came in very handy. We travelled along the Moselle river to Cochem a picturesque wine village and also to enjoy their Xmas market, then we went on to Bernkastel with their traditional and medieval Xmas markets. If u love Xmas then you'll love these Xmas markets, we had some snow on the second day and that really helped with the Christmas atmosphere. The hotel we stayed in was the mercure hotel porta nigra which was a two minute walk to shops and

Before in Trier we have been staying at Park Plaza (terrible internet speed) and Penta Hotel (average). This was the first time we stayed at Hotel Mercure, but certainly now this is our favorite in Trier. Excellent location in the city center, at the end of the pedestrian street. Rooms are high quality. Eventhough I had windows towards the road (Porta Nigra), I didn't notice any noice. Bed is comfortable. Good space to do office work. Good Internet. Staff are exceptionally helpful and kind (biggest plus). Breakfast is average. Best hotel in Trier :)

Your stay in this hotel brings you a lot of joy. It is not only situated in the center, you also get a beautiful outlook on one of the oldest Roman city gates, it is the largest in the northern part of Europe. Straight behind it you will find the old city center, los of shops and places to enjoy yourself and your family. And, of course, the Mercure hotel plays these cards right. You will find all you need, and for children too, in this hotel. More than friendly staff, good isolated large rooms and a comfortable stay.
