Detailed Reviews
We arrived from Weeze airport on a Ryanair flight to the hotel Carl & Monika gave us a warm welcome .our room was on the first floor comfortable beds en suite the shower was powerful it looked like a wet room a shower room all to our self. When we went out we locked our passports in our case which was safe for our 6day stay. breakfast was healthy and appetising do your own boiled eggs bread was delicious and ham and different salami to try. You are not allowed to bring a bottle of water into the hotel or you will be fined 2euros there is complimentary bottle water sparkling in the room I drank the tap water it is perfectly clean and safe as the streets and other water falls etc .. In the street where the hotel is there are one café "Rosies" where you can sit out and a full menu we had a burger it was ok and a beer, the other "studio one" a Gay friendly pub the décor is wonderful black and white movie stars and singers Zoron is the pub owner you can smoke inside and out does a good Pilsner Beer we had a late drink in there most nights. Relax is a nightclub round the corner there are local shops Lidal chemists a pub call Tref .coffee shops and a few Italian restaurants I went to Oxfam and managed to get two German beer glasses for one euro in the tourist shops they would have been 20 euros I was lucky. The old town is about 20minute walk or you can get a tram.

We stayed here as a family with older teens in December. Staff are very friendly and the hotel has a traditional feel. Our room in the garden was good, except for the shower, which really did not work properly (floppy and intermittent hot water). However the "children" stayed in the main hotel and loved their rooms, especially the excellent showers. Only 3 car parking spaces just across the road underground, so get there early-ish if you want one. There are no drink facilities in the room other than 2 small bottles of water for which they charge. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of hot and cold food, and very leisurely (until 11am). We would use this hotel again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Best showers are in the main building but it is lovely waking up looking over the garden.

I stayed here for one night in June 2004. We arrived early in the morning and were able to leave our luggage while we walked around town.
We were promised a twin room with private facilities however on arrival there was a shower but no toilet. We had to use the shared one in the hall way. The room itself was quite nice, the beds and linen were clean, the room was quiet at night. The staff were also helpful and 24 hr reception is always a bonus. The breakfast was quite hearty as most German breakfasts' are. It was centrally located - about a 10 minute walk from the Konigsallee and a short taxi ride to the main station. Also very close to the tram line.
All in all a very good place to stay.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for three nights as part of a 9 week road trip in May and June 2012 through about 17 European countries. So we have plenty of hotel experience on which to base our judgements (see our other reviews). Of all the hotels we stayed at - nearly all chosen as a result of Trip Advisor comments and feedback - this hotel disappointed us most. My daughter and her boyfriend joined us on this visit and shared our view.
The hotel has a number of plus points. It is centrally located and it's possible to walk to the centre of the Old Town in about 15 minutes. Free transport tickets are also included in the room cost, which means that you can travel on Dusseldorf's transport system for the duration of your stay.
But the downsides - for us at least - were significant. On arrival we were told that they had no record of our booking until the following day and that the car parking space we had reserved was not available. Far from being apologetic the gentleman at reception tried to insist this was our fault until we showed him the paperwork. He then blamed one of his colleagues, and told us he would let us know when a parking space became available. We heard nothing more for three days; and throughout our stay the service we received from reception was pretty surly in both German and English (one of our party was fluent in German). This was the only time we had experienced this kind of attitude in 9 weeks of travel. When we asked about the break in internet connection in our room, for example, we were told curtly by reception- 'You're not the only ones, you know. We can't get online either'. When we left, we were presented with a bill which was 80 euros too high. This was corrected when we challenged it.
More substantively, the rooms were of quite a basic standard. They were also dusty and the bathroom smelt consistently of tobacco smoke. The shower drain in our room was blocked and the shower doors did not shut properly, which caused the bathroom to flood. The breakfast was the least appetising and varied of any we had had - by comparison, the Motel One budget chain we stayed in in several German cities had a much better choice. Finally, the owners had a cat which was allowed to roam freely around the breakfast area. Three out of four members of our party have a cat fur allergy, so this was not a great help.
If these issues are not that important to you, and you want somewhere reasonably inexpensive and quite central, this hotel may fit the bill. But we will be looking out for somewhere a bit better for the price next time.

I had a single room in the first floor. The floor boards were very noisy, it was very difficult to sleep. Also the door was not soundproof at all. Luckily there was no costumers in the pub downstairs that night. Guy at the reception was impolite. The breafast was ok, they even served fresh vegetables, which has not been common in Germany. But the service towards me was bad, while the elderly visitors seemed to enjoy a good service. Altough the location of the hotel was good and the price for a night very moderate, I would never want to spent another night there. Note: Don't drink the bottled water in the room, it is expensive.

I booked and paid deposit for 2 Garden Rooms. when we arrived we had only standard rooms with comunal shower and toilet out side our rooms. We had our own en suite. the floor boards were so noisy that our sleep was interupted frequently. The whole place needed a good cleaning, the furniture in the reception area was passed its best to say the least. You cannot put drink bills on you final check out bill. Instead of saying we have messed up and double booked your rooms they tried to pass the onus to me saying that i had not requested the actual room numbers even though the rate for those rooms was taken from my card. The breakfasts were very good and nice, with a good selection.
Like my title says: even if it were free with spending money i would not use this establishment again.
On another note however. Dusselldorf was fantastic, a must to visit.

My husband and I stayed here for four nights. It's an easy 10 min walk from main train station. The tram to get was the 709, if you didn't want to walk. Check in was easy. We were shown to our garden room. Which was lovely. Separate mattresses so more comfortable nights sleep. Bathroom was clean. Walk in shower, a basin and a toilet. Breakfast was amazing. Everything you need for a decent breakfast they had. Cereal, toasts, meat, cheeses, eggs to boil as you want them. Beans, sausages. Tea, coffee, fruit juices. Breakfast was on till 11am, so we had a lie in most days! Ten minute walk to the old town where most the bars are and the xmas markets. We got the tram. Ask about a travel card at reception. Three euro a day. Well worth it. Can use all buses and trams. Even to get back to airport. We went to Cologne for the day, and the card covered so far of our journey. So we only paid eleven euro each return. I would highly recommend this B&B. Staff were very friendly and informative. We will definitely be staying here again on our next visit to Dusseldorf!

This 3 star hotel was a very pleasant family run place. Our room was on the third floor (top floor) and had twin beds and we stayed 3 nights on a B and B basis for the European Triathlon.
The owners were extremely nice and eager to please. Their English was pretty good and it was relatively easy to converse.
Breakfast was bread, meats, cheeses and cereal. Not my bag but nice all the same.
The hotel is located a few miles from the airport (about 25-30 euros cost) and 15-20 minute walk from the old town so very handy.
The only suggestion I would have is that the higher floors had electric fans (there is no air con) in the rooms, when hot.
There is a local bar 200 yards (Rosie's) up from hotel if you just fancy a few beers and a snack.
Hotel was lovely. Highly recommended for the cost for the two of us for circa 300 Euros.
Germany itself !!!
People could not be nicer. My rather naive German was used but rarely required. The drinks were same price as the UK (or cheaper) but the food was pretty expensive although, fantastic quality.
Will I go back, perhaps not to Düsseldorf as it's a pretty industrial place with not a great deal to see but other parts of Germany, absolutely.

I chose this hotel based on comments posted by other travelers on tripadvisor. When we arrived at the hotel , we were directed by the staff to a building across the street which they claimed to be part of their hotel but we we arrived at this " another part of the hotel", the lady at reception told us they were a separate hotel and has nothing to do with Hotel Haus Hilleshiem and as they understand, hotel Haus Hilleshiem was overbooked and they threw me there but didnt tell us the truth... The room rate listed in booking.com was inclusive of breakfast but hotel Haus Hilleshiem arranged for us at this substitute hotel did not include breakfast. We at first decided to go back to Hotel Haus Hilleshiem to sort this out, but the lady at reception of the substitute hotel was very kind to help us to call them so that we didn't have to go back and forth with our heavy luggage. At last they agreed to arrange our breakfast but we were told that they were very impolite to the lady at the substitute hotel.
Overbooking is quite common I believe, the point is they cheated. They could let us know in advance so that we could make a choice or just tell us the truth when we arrived.
I believe the Hotel might be okay in terms of its location and price, but if the owner/staff has attitude problem or problem in the way they treat business partners and customers...you will never know what will happen to you if they book a room with them or stay with them.

A good old fashioned German Hotel that comes with a great family friendly feel. The staff are very helpful and make you feel at home. The accomodation is clean and tidy. The breakfasts were good and will not leave you empty. It is located only minutes from Konigsallee one of the best shopping areas I have visited in Germany. The Altstadt, also not far away, is brilliant for a night out, where you can sample local beers, in a friendly enviroment.
