Wonderful hotel, Breakfast was exceptional as was the afternoon tea, some of the best cakes I have had in restaurant environment. The only down side was the bed was extremely hard but the room service sorted this out on request.

This hotel is very luxurious without being stuffy. The highlights include the fabulous spa area, the wonderful and attentive staff and the good sized rooms. The location is excellent with all the major attractions within walking distance. Do make time to visit the Catholic Cathedral which is right next door. The breakfast is particularly good with lots of choice and...

Can't say enough positive about Hotel de Rome. Great location, splendid accommodations, warm, welcoming, hyper-competent staff. It instantly felt like home. Great breakfast buffet. Concierge staff met our every ambition for hard-to-get tickets. We have only high praise for this hotel.

Very nice hotel. Room was large and tastefully decorated. The location is very central, but very quiet at night. My only gripe is that it was a bit overpriced, though it was one of the few hotels available on the weekend I needed so maybe that is a hint.

Parts of the hotel public areas appeared tired, and parts of the hotel needs refurbishing. The lobby decor is disappointing and such a beautiful space could be improved. The location and access to the museum's was excellent and it is possible to walk to almost everything.

We've stayed at the de Rome several times. That's recommendation in itself. The staff is friendly, the vibe is young without being trendy, the building beautiful. Can't wait for the across the street Opera House to be completed.

This was my 2nd stay at Hotel de Rome in Berlin after a couple of years. The location is great for Berlin. First, I always enjoy the artistic (non-hotel style) decor in the lobby. The rooms are large and comfortable. The beds are very, very comfortable. The roof bar, open from 14:00 till evening time, is a great place to meet...

Great location but Hotel needs work from sterile nature of lobby and public spaces to toiletries.....mgmt needs to review how Hotel is run. Food is poor to average and waiters look away when you signal them. Turn down service came as early as 4:30 and as late as 8:30. One day, we returned to our room at 4:00 and it...

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel de Rome is located on Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden. It is a conversion of an existing building constructed in 1889 by architect Ludwig Heim (appointed master builder of the government), which housed the head office of Dresdner Bank until 1945. This is one of the few luxury hotels in Berlin located in an original building making use of its full architectural splendour and thereby offering guests an authentic Berlin experience. The ornate and classical design of the original building has been given a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer, who also designed the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Tommaso Ziffer has been assisted by architects Aukett + Heese with Olga Polizzi and her design team at Rocco Forte Hotels. ... more   less
