The saving grace for this hotel is its handy location. Apart from that it was overpriced for what you get. . Having stayed there 4 years ago it was great and hence did not check the reviews for this recent booking. It has obviously changed management. Reception staff could not speak any english or had absolutely no comprehension. Internet did...

Good location, clean rooms, reasonable service. It is difficult to get to the rooms by going around corner, passing many closed doors, corridors and staircases. By some reason (my mistake in reservation and very severe fine) I needed to see a manager. He (she) did not answer e-mails, phone calls and notes, and never appeared in person. Isn't it strange?

This joint is clearly an old school two star, with small beds, a weak breakfast, and very limited amenities for at or above Eur 100 a night. The location is a saving grace, a short walk from Friedrichstrasse and Unter den Linden. If location is an issue, stay: if location is not an issue, stay away.

I selected Hotel Amelie because of its position in Berlin - within easy reach of some main sites and the Hauptbahnhof - and the price seemed reasonable approx 90 Euoros for a single room with bathroom per night. They failed to tell me that my accommodation was not in the building where reception was but in a separate building where...

When I booked a room in this hotel it said that there was a wireless Internet and using the Internet was included. In fact, it is not. It costs 5 euros a day, and you cannot use it in your room. You can use the internet in the lobby, and (sic!) an access to the lobby is "granted" until 10pm....

I stayed at this hotel for three nights in May 2007. The hotel was very clean, but very small. It is however in an excellent location for the centre of Berlin, transport and the night life around the hotel is excellent (that’s why i chose this location). The problem is the hotel is more of a budget apartment with a...

This hotel has been recently renovated (rooms still smelled of new paint). Room & bathroom was clean and nice. Breakfast was good too. Very close to cafe strips and city centre. Staff were helpful!

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
