Ackselhaus is a very nice hotel. It is obvious in every detail that someone has done absolutely everything to make sure this is a special place. The rooms are unique and spacious, with modern furnishings mixed with old world stucco in the crown moldings, giving off a very un-generic vibe. Personality is everywhere, in a good way. If you need...

On average I spend about 5-7 nights/month in a hotel, most of the time for my work. I seldom share comments about my experiences with hotels, because i believe that most of the people who work in that business do the best they can to offer us a good quality at a reasonable price. if something goes wrong it is...

This is our second time at Ackselhaus. We first stayed here ~1.5 years ago and liked it so much we came back. We travel with our two teenage daughters and the Blue Home Exclusive Suite is perfect for us. The beds are very comfortable. There is a small galley kitchen with pots, pans, utensils, glasses and plates. The breakfast is...

We were pleasantly surprised to find Ackselhaus (and Blue Hotel, they are like pseudo- twins and both lovely) even more enchanting in real life ... Arriving on a sunblessed Autumn day with copper hued trees lining Bertolter Strasse was an extra bonus but as soon as we stepped inside the small and quirky reception with artwork collected by Ulf Ackselhaus...

My husband and I had the good fortune to spend eight nights at Ackselhaus in October. From the time of booking until the end of our stay we were so impressed with them. The booking was handled well. I had asked a couple of questions in the process of deciding which room to take and all were answered promptly and...

I've been staying in a few hotels recently, and they all felt like just another hotel room in just another big city. This hotel is different. First, it is a smallish hotel - perhaps 20 rooms? Second, the room we stayed in was anything but 'yet another hot room'. We stayed in the New York room (all rooms have their...

This was our travel agent's choice ... in the old eastern city. It's a restored 19thC building and nothing flash to look at from the outside but don't be fooled. There are two buildings owned by the same hotelier which offer two different types of accommodation, one boutique-style (Ackselhaus) and one more standard (Blue Home). All share a restaurant downstairs...

Berlin is a pretty cool place these days and this hotel counts as among the coolest. It’s a gorgeous, non corporate hostelry and if you can get a booking do it! If you want to be pampered with scores of subservient, bored employees who smile like robots and vanish like smoke, then forget this place. It scores on its informality,...

Ackselhaus is a very pleasant boutique hotel. Spacious apartment for a couple or one in my case. It consists of a large bedroom Queen bed, side tables, wardrobe, small table and two chairs a small equipped kitchen and well set out bathroom. It is absolutely clean. Pleasant and helpful staff and a great breakfast is included in the price. There...

What a great place to stay in Berlin. The area, north of the city centre is lovely with plenty of good restaurants and bars. There is easy access to the centre via the many efficient methods of travel. We got a day pass for 7 euros and were on trams, train, underground and ferry! Like much of Berlin there are...

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Great boutique hotel with 37 rooms located in the atmospheric district Prenzlauer Berg, bustling with cafes, bars and restaurants. Only a stone's throw away from Berlin's trendiest attractions. All studios, apartments, and suites are equipped with wooden parquet floors, high ceilings and antique period pieces which go hand in hand with modern furnishings. The variety of decoration takes in modern, classical, oriental and chic. Every room is also utterly unique - no two are the same. Two lovely Mediterranean gardens invite you to chill out.
