We spent 2 nights of a 5 night stay in Berlin at Homage Apartments and we ended up wishing we had booked for the entire 5 days. I was a little surprised to see a few people commenting on the lack of amenities in this building. This is not a hotel; it is not advertised as a hotel and it...

The lay of the land in Berlin is tricky to figure out. This city of 3.5 million people lacks a "center"—and since commercial districts are so spread out from each other (due to the former East and West Berlin divisions), I would imagine it would be difficult for a first-time traveler to this German capital (like me) to decide where...

We recently spent a week in one of the one-bedroom apartments in the back garden building. Nice spacious apartment, if a bit starkly decorated, in a really terrific neighborhood. My partner and I agreed that we would pass on any future stay in a 4th floor walk-up -- but we would return to one of the lower level units. Any...

My husband and I stayed at Homage Design Apartments for three days towards the end of September and really enjoyed the spacious layout of the apartment. We stayed in the garden apartment building which was set back from the street. The kitchen facilities were excellent and the apartment was very clean and tastefully decorated in a minimalist contemporary style. The...

Helpful staff on arrival, allowed us to book in 3 hours early. Apartment well equipped, contrary to previous comments there WAS washing up liquid, cloths etc. apartment itself was large and comfortable, beds and pillows comfortable, we all slept well. Location fab, lovely restaurants and bars locally, tram and tube also nearby for travel to Berlin's main sights. ONLY downside...

I stayed with my two gown up children for three nights in August in an apartment called grey, very clean and modern one bedroom facing onto a courtyard. The location is good, with a few nice trendy restaurants and hostels and a handy supermarket a block away. The shower was large and modern and the kitchen well appointed, though they...

My stay at Homage Design was at the end of a road trip, where we had visited other hotels. This was probably 3rd favorite on my list of 4 hotels I stayed at. Granted, it was spacious and the kitchen with washer/dryer was a nice surprise. This is not so much a hotel, rather than a place for people who...

I really have no complaints at all about the apartment. Myself and two female friends stayed in the 'grey' apartment which had twin beds in the bedroom and a large sofa bed in the living room. Found the beds to be very comfy, the facilities to be excellent - tv with plenty of channels, DVD player, hairdryer, HUGE shower, fully...

My wife and I spent last weekend in Berlin and stayed at Homage Apartments. We stayed in the slightly smaller upper ground floor apartment, 'Blue' I think. The apartment was REALLY nicely furnished, no fuss, modern and minimal but excellent quality all over. For the price it was a real high-end treat and is superbly located. The main bedroom was...

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
