Very well localized, 2 metro stations from Alexanderplatz, clean, friendly staff and HUGE rooms with living room and kitchen (3 small supermarkets in a 5 minutes walking distance). It's almost as if you have rented a small apartment in Berlim in a quiet residencial zone. Breakfast is good. Free internet at the lobby.

This hotel is tucked away inside a courtyard so it's wonderfully quiet!! I liked the neighborhood, too. It's residential and a bit away from the hubbub of downtown. Yet, the hotel is close to a subway and several bus lines. We didn't see other tourists, which added to our fantasy that we were residents of Berlin going to "our" neighborhood...

We spent 5 days/nights here and found it to be very nice. Had a small (Jr.) suite that was fine. It is in the Mitte section of Berlin but you'll need to do some walking. The cafe within is only open for breakfast. We did however, with directions from the front desk, find great restaurants that we walked to that...

Two of us stayed here for seven nights. This is my third hotel stay in Berlin. I previously stayed in NH Hotel Berlin City West, which is also excellent, but I think I would choose this hotel for my next trip because of the location. We chose a junior suite. Our suite was quite large, with a full kitchen, big...

I have just returned from 4 nights in the Heinrich Heine hotel in Berlin. What a great place, and I don't just mean Berlin itself. Well-located, the hotel is only 2 Underground stops from Alexanderplatz, from where you can get just about anywhere in the city on its excellent transport system. As a single traveller I am used to being...

The enthusiastic reviews here are correct - this is amazing value for money. A big, big room with cooking facilities - more like a bedsit apartment than a hotel room. The location is inner-suburban, as other reviewers note. You are not in a tourist hot-spot but you have plenty of options to get to the hot-spots using public transport. If...

My partner and I stayed here for four nights in September 2006. I was a little skeptical about the value since I booked the hotel for a special price on Expedia (I think it was less than 80 euros a night at the time). But I figured it was OK since it was affiliated with the NH chain, which is...

My fiancee and step-daughter surpised me for my 30th birthday with a trip to Berlin, a first for me and them and thankfully, courtesy of her rather impeccable taste, we stayed at the Heinrich Heine. The hotel itself could, to the first time traveller, seem a little off the beaten track, not slap bang in the center of all the...

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
