I stayed at The Amano for a business trip last week. There was a problem with the booking and I had to check in a day early at very short notice but the staff were unflappable and extremely helpful. The double room was chic and well designed, clean and neatly laid out an absolutely perfect for a short stay. The bar...

Went with the family, it s a clean modern hotel with various accommodation and great breakfast and access by public transport. Staff is friendly no doubt, fun and enjoyable spot! The minors: the parking, underground of the hotel limited spots and expensive! Then comes the bar or should we say dancing? on a friday evening or saturday evening pretty much...

A lovely hotel, with very polite and helpful staff. The breakfast was delicious with a wide selection of foods all of which were lovely (I tried everything!). The only draw back for me as a non-smoker is that the bars and the first floor of the hotel permitted smoking so you were greeted with the smell of smoke every time...

This beautiful contemporary hotel provided particularly friendly front-desk staff and a luxury atmosphere. Nothing extemporaneous in the design... no in-room artwork and simplicity of recessed lighting were very appealing. The location in a vibrant gallery-oriented neighborhood was a 10-15 minute walk from Alexanderplatz. Our street-facing room was the quietest we've ever experienced, no tv noise or running water or any...

6 of us recently stayed at the Amano Hotel in Berlin. The rooms were exactly as the Lonely Planet described them - 'a case study in efficiency'. There was everything you needed in the small but perfectly formed and more than adequate rooms, ideal for a long weekend. The breakfast was really excellent with a wide choice catering for all...

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
