We (family of 5; parents with 5yr old, 3 yr old and new baby) have just returned from a wonderful 2 week holiday staying in the Pension in room 6. Both sets of grandparents also stayed here in rooms on the courtyard (not basement). Accommodation was clean, practical (microwave and fridge in our room) and quiet, and the lady who...

Great place! I had to change my reservation and the lady was super accomodating and friendly. I wasn't allowed to leave my bags anywhere before check in time, so I had to sit in a cafe with tons of stuff for an hour and a half, but things could have been worse. The woman I spoke to was rather short...

We really enjoyed our stay: good location, easy access to all interesting places in Berlin, comfortable bed, good shower (and the kindness of placing a hair-dryer which was not normally included), very clean and nice. A small fridge in the apartment makes it even better, especially because there is no breakfast option. The 'pension' consistis of some apartments in a...

Great location just near Rosenthaler Platz and Rosa-Luxembourg. Lots of public transport (catch Bus 142 from Hbf). Lots of cafes, shops and restaurants around: great food and variety. Room was large and with semi-kitchen: microwave, fridge, kettle and sink so easy to self-cater. Clean bathroom with good shower, comfortable beds (firm but not rock-hard). Inside a courtyard so pretty quiet...

As long as you are happy to be left to your own devices after check in, this little place is an amazing find in a great location! Within close walking distance of Rosa-Luxembourg Platz U-Bahn station and just round the corner from the trendy Restaurant area of Prenzlauerberg, it was the location that made it such fantastic value for us....

We stayed in Pension Maedchenkammer this summer 2011. We actually arrived very late (around 11pm), and the lady who runs it actually waited around, so very professional (they do not have a reception). The room was nice, nothing fancy or out of the ordinary, but clean. TV was tiny, however, did not really miss it. Location was good. They do...

I wrote to their email address but did not get a reply. So I decided to call long-distance to their number on their website, and a gentleman picked up the phone. Even though he was obviously outside on his cellphone, he was nice enough to check the schedule and told me there was one last room available. We agreed on...

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
