Karl August hotel boasts a stylish and modern atmosphere that captivates guests, featuring chic rooms and a sleek lobby. The cleanliness of the establishment consistently receives high marks, ensuring a spotless stay for travelers. Nestled in a central location, it provides easy access to Nuremberg's festive Christmas Market and historical treasures, all while maintaining a peaceful environment.
While the hotel's value is occasionally questioned due to pricey breakfast options, the range of amenities, including a pool with impressive views and cozy extras, generally leaves visitors satisfied. However, service and room sizes can vary, with some guests noting exceptional staff encounters and spacious quarters, while others mention less accommodating experiences and tighter spaces.

Detailed Reviews
Myself and my son had a very enjoyable weekend break in the Karl August Hotel in Nuremberg where we were going to see a football match. We picked the Karl August hotel because it looked very modern and was superbly located adjacent to the main market square and it exceeded our expectations. The hotel is simply amazing with superb architecture and very well detailed spaces and rooms. The twin room was very modern with a separate WC and bathroom / shower room and well appointed with spare towels etc and two pillows on each bed. A balcony overlooked the inner pedestrian route / courtyard but the sound proofing was excellent. No tea / coffee facilities bit that doesn't bother me - new sparkling water each morning.
TV with the usual channels with BBC news service. The spa / pool facilities are superb. We went up both days of our stay and on both occasions we were the only people in the pool (can't say it will always be like that) but its very slick and modern with the infinity style pool in the apex of the pre-cast concrete roof. The sauna is massive and was a toasty 90ºC when we were there on or own.
Staff were excellent and very helpful and the desk was attended when we were checking out at 5am and our taxi was waiting at the entrance. We would definitely go back. We went to see a football match and found a fantastic hotel in a very friendly and interesting city.

Superb location for access to the Nuremberg Christmas Market. The room we had was on the second floor directly adjacent to a pedestrian passage to/from the market. There would be a little noise but generally most foot traffic stopped by 2200. The room configuration includes glass panels separating the bedroom from the bathroom. If you need to use the bathroom at night, you will have a lot of illumination in the bedroom. A negative was the very spartan fitness facility. There is no free weights/dumbbell rack but the equipment offered (cardio) is modern and well maintained. Finally, as is the case in almost every Euro hotel, the pillows are “nicht so gut”. That said, we look forward to our next stay with the fine staff at Karl August!

Dear Doug, thanks for your feedback to your stay with us! We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us, especially our central loction in the middle of the old town. For your next stay we would recommend one of our apartments or Junior Suites. There you would not only find more space, but also a bathroom which is seperated through a wall from the room. And you would have a small kitchenette with a fridge as well. And we have good news for you! We do get a weight machine for our gym in the next weeks, hopefully in time for your next stay with us! We are sorry to hear, that our pillows from a local manufacture are not so good. But we do offer some other pillows like neck roll or harder pillows too! Please let us know, our team is 24 / 7 at the reception! We are looking forward to welcome you again in our Neighborhood! Lovely regards Your Team of Karl August

My wife and I booked a Christmas trip to Bavaria to enjoy the festive spirit and the beautiful markets. We spent part of the trip in Nuremberg, staying at the Karl August for 3 nights.
From the moment we arrived, we were stunned at how beautiful and cosy the hotel was, how friendly and helpful the staff were and how quiet and clean our room was. The location was perfect for us, only a short walk from the Christkindlesmarkt in the central Hauptmarkt area. We received some vouchers for free hot drinks and seasonal Glühwein on arrival too, which was a real treat!
We had breakfast in the hotel on two occasions and enjoyed it immensely; a lovely mix of traditional German breakfast foods. The adjoining cafe is also great, with lots of coffee, pastries and bagels on offer.
Overall, my wife and I agree that our stay at the Karl August was probably the best hotel experience we’ve had during our various travels together. We both appreciate quiet and cleanliness, as well as having an eye for design and how easily these sorts of places can be over-designed to the point of being cold and unwelcoming. Not the case with Karl August, it has the right balance of being visually attractive and cosy at the same time. We would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Nuremberg at any time of the year.

This hotel has an excellent location to the Christmas markets. It is literally just steps away. When we checked in the lady at the front desk was not friendly or helpful and gave us the wrong Wi-Fi code. However, a young lady was kind enough to help us with our luggage. The hotel rooms are concrete and feel like you’re staying in a bomb shelter. There are no decorations on the walls and the rooms are very plain and simple. The bed is foam and other furniture included a table and chairs a couch and TV. The is room large but they did not have a phone nor coffee or tea. They did provide free water bottles and cookies.
The bathroom was remodeled recently. The security of the hotel is very good requiring card keys to enter the buildings and the elevator floors. The restaurant for breakfast was overpriced at €24 per person and the manager was not willing to serve us breakfast at 10:15 AM Because they close down at 10:30. I did convince her to accommodate us. However we felt rushed. I do not recommend this hotel except for location only.

Dear CharlieZ966, We regret to hear, that you obviously did not have a happy time at our Karl August. Nevertheless, we thank you for your review! Great, that you enjoyed our central location, just steps away from the world famous "Christkindlesmarket". Our deliberately minimalist style, exposed concrete and the use of natural materials and small details as arts, is something that makes our Karl August special. In all booking tools and also on our website you will find the room descriptions and pictures. Sustainability is very important to us too, which is why we have deliberately dispensed with telephones in our rooms. Nowadays, everyone has a cell phone and our guests can easily contact us at any time via whatsapp. At our breakfast in the Brasserie NITZ, we offer our guests a unique experience with our special étagères with a large selection of mainly regional and seasonal products. As passionate hosts, it is our mission to impress people and exceed our guests' expectations. We therefore regret all the more that you had the opposite impression of our staff at times and that we were unable to convince you of the quality of our service. Above all, we want all our guests to feel comfortable during their stay. We hope that you will choose to stay with us again in the future so that we can provide you with an even better experience in our Neighborhood! Lovely regards from our Neighborhood Mariann & Your Karl August Team

My wife and I stayed at the Karl August in December of 2022 to see the Christmas Markets in Nuremberg. The main reason we chose this 4-star hotel was due to its location. The hotel is literally steps away from the Main Market, Hauptmarkt. It is also located right in the heart of the old town of Nuremberg and all the main sites are within easy walking distance from the hotel. The morning breakfast was excellent and the service at the breakfast was fantastic. The staff at the breakfast really did go out of their way to welcome you and provide fast service. We stayed in a Superior Twin Room and it was a disappointment. Karl August takes a very minimalist approach to decor. For you as a guest, that means the rooms have concrete walls, very simple IKEA-style furnishing, and parquet floors (no carpet). The lighting for the hallways leading to your guest room only light up during movement; so when you come home to the hotel at night and the door to the elevator opens, the entire scene is one of darkness, like out of a horror movie. It sorta reminded us of what a jail must look like. The housekeeping service was also not consistent. During our 4 day stay, they only came to clean the rooms twice. We had to raid the linen closet just to get fresh towels. This hotel is all about LOCATION. It really is in the best spot to see the old town of Nuremberg. I'm not sure I would call this a 4-star hotel and even though the location was great, I don't think I'd stay here again if coming to Nuremberg.

Dear Guest, thank you for your feedback to your stay at our Hotel Karl August! We are glad you enjoyed our special Etagerenbreakfast with full service to the table. Our Karl August is a unique, independent boutique hotel without a stars categorization. We put great value on quality and sustainability and always try to life up to our name Karl August Neighborhood, do work with local companies and artists. Our style is a minimalistic one, combined with beautiful art and selected design objects. The pictures on our website, as well as on all booking platforms are true pictures, where you will get a good sense of your design concept. For example, all our wooden interior is made from local carpenters, as in your booked room, everything was made especially for the hotel by the carpentry. For a clean look we decided to put in all of our rooms a natural wood floor. Our guests appreciate this also for hygienic reasons. Because sustainability is a big part of our concept, we always try to reduce our consumptions, therefore we have motion sensors in our corridors. We do have a daily housekeeping service, only if you put out the NOPE sign, we won´t go in. You will find our team at the reception 24 / 7, so we are always happy to help or assist you. We wish you all the best! Best regards Your Team

My husband and I visited Nuremberg for our wedding anniversary and chose to stay at the Karl August - It was by far the best stay we have ever have in the area! The front desk staff were so kind and helpful - when I had a question or a request, they were quick and friendly with their response. The look of the hotel is amazing; the rooms are very aesthetically pleasing and spacious for their price - especially since you are perfectly located in the middle of the Altstadt. The pool, gym and sauna are also a great plus to the experience. I will definitely be staying here again the next time I am in town.

Very nice building and rooms. The room was huge and very well decorated. The bathroom had heated floor and shower accessories with nice scent which they have on sale on ground floor. They have 2 nice restaurants/ coffee shops. Good lobby where you can work from. The spa is amazingly well designed with lots of sunshine with a beautiful swimming pool.

Had a fantastic stay at Karl August. The hotel is in a great location, beautifully designed with a fab pool, spa and gym and a number of attached amenities (cafe, bar/restaurant and ice cream parlour). Reception staff were incredibly friendly and helpful but the only area for improvement would be in the housekeeping/room cleaning.
Hotel has an eco policy with towels and bedding only replaced on request (which is quite normal in 2023) but lack of bed-making and hoovering of rooms etc. should not be part of an eco policy.

Very new and good looking hotel, rooms look modern but not all look the same good. We booked two superior rooms and one looked wow with a nice glass wall (not seetrough) to the bathroom and was big and bright. The other, even they told us at reception it has the same square meters looked a lot smaller, had less light, not that nice bathroom separation. None of both rooms had a minibar or fridge. A water heater for tea and a iron was supplied after asking at reception immediately. The rooms were very quiet even the hotel was probably full, we didn't hear nothing in a room directly next to the elevator. The "spa" (some showers, a sauna and a pool) looked very good and the pool looked simply wow, unfortunately it was that cold that putting a feet in it was very hard, so a beautiful but useless pool. Another thing that was strange is that getting from reception to the room you need to go outside in the cold and cross as the hotel makes an arch over a pedestrian street. We didn't book any extra services but the cafeteria was very good. Overall a very nice hotel that could be great by improving a few things

Dear Knolli, Thanks for your feedback. All our rooms are individual. We are 24h at the reception and always happy to help you or looking for another room. Our rooms are also deliberately not equipped with telephones for sustainability reasons. In this day and age, when almost everyone has a smartphone, the demand for telephones in the room is very low, which is why it is not ecologically justifiable for us to equip 120 rooms with them. Our guests are always welcome to contact our reception by phone or in person. Our hotel is built like a U. There is an elevator next to the restaurant and a separate entrance with 2 more elevators. From the second floor everything is connected. We always recommend the elevator closest to the room. We would be pleased if you would give us another chance on your next trip to Nuremberg, so that we can completely convince you of us. Your Karl August Team

We absolutely loved our stay at Karl August. In the center of shopping, events, and restaurants. The windows have excellent sound proof so you don't hear much outside. We also were in town for meetings and were able to work some from the lovely café, Pique Nique. This hotel truly feels like a 5-start hotel with incredible amenities like the pool and sauna. All of that topped off with elegant, smart design throughout the entire hotel. Have already recommended to several people! I hope we can make it back soon.
