Yes, Heidelberg city itself, is just like any other city, with busy streets and expensive car parking. But there are many other attractions in the surrounding areas, and the hotel owner is very helpful in providing information on other places of interest in the area. It is a fairly agricultural area - June was asparagus season, and there were lots of fruit farms and wineries too. Stay off the autobahn, use the minor roads, and discover a beautiful part of rural Germany.
