In the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, LE GRAND HOTEL DES TERREAUX is one of Lyon’s oldest hotels. It combines the atmosphere of an old-fashioned 19th century town house with a daringly modern, innovative design. Every detail shows the personality of this place which is brought to life by the passion of its staff and the soul of its Guests. This lovely hotel enjoys a prime location on the peninsula, not far from the Lyon Opera House and the Théatre des Célestins, just on the edge of the historic centre of Lyon with its many bistro-style restaurants (known locally as ‘bouchons’), and a stone’s throw from the Place des Terreaux and the Musée des Beaux-Arts. As you will see from our guest book, we have had the privilege of welcoming a number of very famous guests.

I loved my four day stay here. What a great location, very close to the old town and shopping districts, plus the metro/buses.

The front desk staff were so friendly and helpful.

On viewing my third floor single room ( up a few steps , and far enough away from the lift noise wise) ,I was initially a bit concerned at how small it was, but it was spotlessly clean, with a clearly very recently refurbished bright shower/toilet space. It was in fact perfect for a solo traveller, and quiet at night, with efficient air con.

The hotel is small, traditionally furnished, with a cute little bar / relaxation area near the entrance. This is great for solo travellers or couples, it had a friendly ,intimate feel but still modern and well organised.

I now wish I had tried the breakfast, as it wasn’t easy finding a good cafe open in August serving much more than a coffee, but the local boulangerie on the same street had wonderful pains au chocolat . I thought 17 euro was q pricy for breakfast, but probably not if you want more than a coffee!

I really appreciated the little plunge pools at the back of the hotel; timed right you can have a lovely solo chill out there after a day walking in the city!

Hope to return!

I had a problem with my other hotel booking and Hotel de Terreaux had a room available late in the evening so they saved me. The room was a little small but I didn’t mind. The location is excellent for walking around the center. I booked a taxi for the next morning for an early departure but the taxi was 15 minutes late. I found out in the car that no booking had been made and the reception called the taxi only in the morning...that’s why it was late....It was also a little odd to have breakfast next to the swimming pool as the the air was quite moist and there is a smell of chlorine. Other than that the stay was nice.

This is a charming intimate French hotel located in a lively neighborhood of restaurants and shops. The front desk staff was friendly and attentive; they remembered my room number and recommended good restaurants. The decor is charming. My spotlessly clean room was the perfect size with a bathroom that had a long white embroidered curtain. Significantly, the bed linens and the towels were made of a high-quality cotton. Breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely stone room. Don't hesitate to book here.

Our room was large and beautiful. The breakfasts (optional) were varied, fresh and delicious. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff did an excellent job. The location was perfect on a charming street in the best part of town.

Romantic weekend that we look forward to once a year. This year it was Lyon so we had a lot of expectations. Well very very disappointed. Tiny room 140 cm bed very hot in the room and no service inside no kettle as we have had in all 4 star hotels over the last 10 years. Nor small fridge. Nothing . Tiny TV too and a desk with 1 chair.. there were 2 of us.
The swimming pool is unsuitable, my husband being 195m impossible to pass under the arches and the whirlpool had no whirlpool.
The 19euro breakfast is very disappointing. An orange juice that had fermented. I've been sick all day. A cold coffee. And when I bring back my glass of orange juice I always wait for someone to bring back a clean one.
Despite everything, a very warm welcome.

Very well located hotel, with excellent service and attentive staff. The room was well decorated and had good ventilation and light. As a suggestion for improvement, we recommend an anti-slip or safety bar system in the bathroom

Very nice junior room. watch out for a lot of dust on top of the canopy, the rest clean.
on arrival, welcome unworthy of a 4-star hotel (is the staff difficult to find?) the manager must brief his employees. No welcome message, the first words: "tell me" ??? some explanations about the breakfast room and the pool and when you ask where this is you have the answer: follow the corridor you will find everything.??? no city map with some hangouts for people who do not know the city: disastrous.
At the bar in the evening at 11pm, the same person who makes the reception, does not know what a "Gym tonic" is and even less what glass to serve it in, we had to go to the other side of the counter....
The departure, Sunday, July 28, a very professional employee, kind and smiling, patient, giving us all the information about Lyon we need.

Nice and well located Inn. Unfortunately we were the victim of a robbery in the room, without breaking and entering and therefore most likely by the staff. Management response... none even took the time to respond to minimal apology.

Together with my wife, I spent four days in Lyon.
We stayed at Grand Hotel Des Terreaux, Lyon, France. The location of the hotel was good.
We booked through hotels.com. Our room (standard double; N° 208) was definitely smaller than expected (17 sqm according to hotels.com). The bed was possibly a queen size one, which took up most of the room. The bathroom was small, but equipped with nice bathrobes. The safety box was too small for an ordinary laptop.
Friendly staff at reception. The room was well cleaned. Breakfast was OK.
This is a fair tourist class hotel, but not what could be expected from a "Grand Hotel".
Overall impression: Rather expensive, without giving value for money. I suggest a cheaper hotel in order to spend more money at one of Lyon´s several restaurants.

Just perfect. Ideally located, clean, good value for price and excellent customer service. Room super quiet and clean, best bathroom amenities I have seen in a long time, which really helps the customer experience when taking a shower in the morning.

Hi, I just want to inform you that we don't have duvets in our rooms. They are replaced by bedspread. About the pillows, we just changed it for pillows made with cotton and polyester. It's confortable as those made with feathers or down without the allergic issue for our guests. We will enjoy to greet you at the hotel. If you need any further informations or to book a room, do not hesitate to contact us by email or with our website. Bye.

Is there parking?
2 contributions2 helpful votes
Our hotel has no car park, but our customers are used to park at the parking des Terreaux which is located two blocks from the hotel. It is underground, watched and open 24h/7d. the rate is € 2 per hour, a package of € 4.90 is applied from 08 pm to 08 am. For a long stay, the "parking of the Opera" will be cheaper. It is 7 minutes by walk from the hotel and offers a 72 hours ticket for € 47.
