We booked this hotel when buying train tickets from London to Lyon through Eurostar. The hotel is right on Place Bellecour, one of the main squares in Lyon and is an old mansion house. The interior is beautifully decorated to match the age of the hotel and the room was huge. The bed was enormous and the most comfortable hotel...

Given some of the less-than-glowing reviews of this property, I was a bit wary of staying here, but since I'd gotten a great deal through Expedia, I figured I would take my chances. I'm so glad I did. The Royal was absolutely lovely. First, the location on the Place Bellecour was perfect - close enough to Vieux Lyon, yet also...

The Le Royal (formarly Sofitel) is an elegant, classic hotel centrally located on the Place Bellacour, in the heart of Lyon. Great atmosphere and wonderful service. The breakfast is one of the best I have ever had in an hotel. I had booked a superior room, which was spacious, but could have needed some renovating. It was on the first...

We stayed in Lyon coming and going from our trip to Provence and booked two separate rooms in Le Royal. The first booking for a longer stay was midweek and the rooms we got were on the first and third floors, with nice fluffy beds covered in duvets. On the way back we got smaller rooms on the 4th floor,...

Just spent 2 nights in the Royal. Mixed experience. Overall, I would say it was o good place to stay, but there were problems. Booked through Expedia, but when we arrived the desk clerk had the wrong arrival date. We had our printout stating the correct date, but all he could give us was a very plain room with an...

The hotel SOFITEL ROYAL is in a central location in Lyon, has been recently refurbished and is now the PAUL BOCUSE training school for future hoteliers. Exit the main door and you are in a beautiful main square, with pavement cafes. The main streets of the old town are a mere five minutes walk in any direction. The oldest Renaissance...

Again, having read the reviews on this site, we booked 2 nights at this hotel. We arrived by car, and it really is difficult to determine where to park when you first arrive - the staff in the lobby told us to just park on the pavement until the valet was available. There is also a one way system on...

When I arrived at the hotel it was just transformd from Sofitel to another accor-hotel. Workers were busy to uninstall the sofitel-signs. However, the first impression of the hotel was very good, also beacuse of the top location right in the middle of the centre. Also the room was nice, but obviously old. You don't get a keycard but a...

Plusses: Huge bedroom, enormous marble bathroom with tub and separate WC room Great location on Place Bellecour, right next to Metro, Tourist Information office, and the Grand Tour bus stop. Very friendly and helpful staff: * Eager front-desk clerk wanted to spend time to suggest a sightseeing itinerary. * Overnight manager went out of his way to ensure that our...

I recently stayed in this "real" boutique hotel in the very center of the City of Lyon, this hotel is owned by Paul Bocuse...and also is the training center of its hospitality school and management university. The hotel is ideally located on the - Place Bellecour - (very nice square, surrounded by shops and some of the most wonderful antique),...
