Detailed Reviews
Welcoming receptionist, easy, secured parking ( we chose exterior). Due to roadworks and closures it may be difficult to find from some directions. Ten to fifteen minute walk to centre, vieux port. Room clean, bed comfortable, well equipped kitchenette area, bathroom clean, good shower. Carpet in room and corridor seemed clean but discoloured, really needs replacing.
Reasonably priced.
Staff had placed table and chairs in the garden outside our room and they used this as a smoking area, we could not open widows freely when they used the area. There were large areas that could have been used away from guest accommodation. Not all floors are accessible by lift

Not sure why there are bad reviews of this place, sure there is no lift, there is no manned reception, your bed may also be your sofa.....but and it's a big but, its cheap, really cheap. You have a room that is clean, a kitchenette and a bathroom as well as free wifi. The walk into the harbour/town centre is flat and only 5 minutes, the train station is 5 minutes in the other direction and the taxi ride from the airport is only around 15 EUR. If you want a base from which to explore and enjoy La Rochelle and don't mind basic because you won't spend much time in your hotel then this place is great....if you want 5 stars, aircon, room service and a price tag to match it is not!

We chose the accommodation on price - and the fact that it would merely be somewhere to sleep - and were pleasantly surprised. Although the room wasn't large, there were facilities for cooking and the bathroom and general areas were clean.
There was a friendly welcome and we were handed a small pamphlet on the facilities.
Breakfast was a buffet - well presented and plentiful.
Although the lack of AC might be a problem in a heatwave, an open window sufficed on this occasion.

+1
Pros: Location. Room with kitchenette. Not much else
Cons: We stayed three days, paid over 230 Euro for our stay, but it was not enough to get the room cleaned after our second day, or even get a fresh towel. We were told that fresh towel or cleaning costs 20 Euro. Are they mad? Towards the end of our stay, toilet paper, shower gel and soap all run out.
Filthy and disgusting carpets on the corridors in the building as well as in our room. They need to be scrapped and new ones installed.
Bathroom old and mouldy, black spots on shower tiles.
Car park is payable for every night of your stay.
There is no "terrace" or a "garden", it's a lie. All you get is your small room, that's all.
Most disgusting hotel I've been in France so far, have most extensive and intrusive rules. They reserve 250 Euro from your credit card, inspect your passport and payment card. Trying to protect what? Dilapidated building and mouldy carpets? What a joke.

The staff in this hotel are very nice and friendly but their warm smile could not make up for the state of the room. The carpet is so dirty we nearly checked out and the corridor smelt (presumably because of the filthy stained carpet). Furniture is tired (photos on the website are misleading making it look better than it is).

We brought our dog and we’re delighted by how pet friendly they were. It’s central and easy to walk to the old port. Rooms were very clean and the breakfast was lovely. I recommend the coffee we really enjoyed it

La Rochelle is beautiful and well worth a visit, I went with a group of friends for a couple of days and stayed in this hotel. It was slightly better than I expected, room was good size and facilities clean and in good state of repair, cooking was a 2 burner hob and microwave which was quite sufficient and breakfast was enough, parking underground at €9 a day was well worth it. Situated in the University area it was quiet and within walking distance of everything the city has to offer. A good choice found by one of the group.

It was undergoing renovations during our visit but that did not affect things too much. our room had some bits that looked the worse for wear but hey we were not expect the Hilton at these prices.
We parked in the underground parking which was empty since it was double the price of the outside parking but it had the advantage that you can avoid the outside when emptying the car.
All the staff were friendly and helpful. A request for extra pillows was promptly dealt with.
The bed was very comfortable and room 224 is quite quiet.

The room was clean and pleasant, it contained everything that is needed. Enclosed car park available at a small cost. Good restaurants in walking distance. The staff was very helpful in finding a dentist for an emergency.
