The location is wonderful, overall cleanliness was good with great staff, and a superb breakfast. the breakfast selection was the best we have ever come across i. France.. Bed and bedding high qu’alto Only negative we would prefer a shower rather than a bath with hand held shower.

Very classy and stylish cosy hotel just like you could imagine with Maison du monde furnitures. The room is very comfortable and enjoyable. The bed are really large and comfy.
The location right on the port with the view on the 2 towers is simply amazing and typical from La Rochelle.
The breakfast is really nice with a lot of choice (eggs, charcuterie, viennoiseries, juices, cereales…)
Coffees and tea available in the room.

We stayed for three nights at La Maison Du Monde. The hotel is in an excellent location, very, very close to the old port of La Rochelle, many restaurants and bars. It couldn’t have been more central and provided the perfect base for our stay. The hotel was very well styled, with communal areas and breakfast room always looking their best. The staff in reception were friendly and tried to answer any questions we had.
However, our room was not quite as we were expecting. We had booked a Deluxe Room with City View and we felt this wasn’t accurately described online (either on the hotel website or booking.com) and the photographs were quite different to what we got. The room had all the amenities we were expecting, however it was much smaller and the city view was only visible if you leant FAR out of the window! Our room was on the fourth and top floor of the hotel meaning it had a sloping ceiling, which made it feel smaller and more awkward. We questioned the size of the room with the reception staff however we were told that ‘comfort’ rooms were actually slightly larger but they didn’t have a view, which we felt was misleading. While the room and bathroom felt generally clean, the wall by a vent was very dusty, and both a large lamp, and bathroom mirror light didn’t work. The room did have air conditioning however this appeared to be limited and could not be lowered below 22 degrees. As it was very hot during our stay, and being on the top floor, the room sometimes felt stuffy and we woke up hot during the night.
Breakfast was very good and while there was not a huge selection of cooked items, the quality of the food was excellent. I am gluten free and sent an email to the hotel in advance. Each morning they had fresh gluten free bread they had purchased specially which was really lovely.
Despite our disappointment with our room, we would stay again because of the location. We would just be more aware of which rooms to book, or not.

We noted your comment regarding the sloped ceiling on the top floor. Indeed, some of our rooms on the 4th floor are attic rooms, but they often feature high ceilings, which many of our guests find charming. As for the view, we assure you that the Deluxe rooms offer a view of the city without the need to lean out of the window. Perhaps you were expecting a view from a specific side, but all of our Deluxe City View rooms overlook the beautiful city of La Rochelle. Regarding the air conditioning, it is limited to 22 degrees due to our commitment to an eco-label, but we do have fans and a control feature directly on the unit that allows you to adjust the intensity. Overpriced and loud. Not relaxing or comfortable. No sea view, and not COVID safe. Most hotel guest were maskless in the hotel except receptionist . No hand sanitizer near the elevators, front door. If we had known in advanced we would had never stayed here. Hand sanitizer was only provided at reception desk.
We expected a nice quite room overlooking the sea. Instead we were booked in a room looking at a harbor above noisy restaurants.

Madame, We are very sorry that the view was not as you expect. La Rochelle is a famous historical harbor city near the ocean and our Hotel is on the Old Harbor. As we answered to you on Booking.com, we do not have any sea view room in the Hotel. The room you choose is called Deluxe Old Harbor and as a view on the Harbor or on La Rochelle historical Towers. The hotel is located in the middle of the city center, near all the restaurants and the activities. The area is quiet at night and the hotel is well-isolated with double windows and we have a great A/C system. Our staff went above an beyond to find a new room on the 3rd floor when you demanded to change room but the first floor was not as you excepted even if the hotel was fully booked. You did not mention in your previous comment that the hotel was not COVID safe but to answer to this point: your guests are wearing masks in the Hotel as it is mandatory in all public places in France. We have hand sanitizer available near each elevator. All the contacts points are cleaned every hour. Best regards, Céline

What did I love about this very eclectic hotel - the situation was just fabulous and the service and reception exceptional. My room was really sweet, although a little on the small side and tastefully decorated. One of the most comfortable beds I have experienced in a hotel for quite some time. Greatly appreciated the coffee machine and kettle for teas. All very quiet and relaxing. I was particularly impressed with the hand written welcome note on my bed upon arrival and the extended check out time. My only criticism would be the room cleaning which I felt was a little low - I found sweet papers left in the wardrobe, the sink was not clean when I arrived and the daily cleaning was not the best, carpet needed better vacuuming and tables and surfaces needed wiping.

We treated ourselves to a 'deluxe harbour view' room, which turned out to be anything but deluxe.
It was so small there was barely any room to walk around the bed. To access the minute wardrobe we had to move a chair. There was no room to unpack and I repeatedly hit my head on the 'desk' on the wall as there wasn't any room to maneuver around the room.

Stayed on the 17th May 2024. The hotel was clean. The staff were very friendly. The bedroom size was fine. The bathroom was very good The breakfast was adequate. Parking was 12 Euros. The location of the hotel was rather a distance from La Rochelle harbour and the total cost of the stay didn't represent particularly good value.

I made an online reservation at a certain price. This price was confirmed by the hotel by email ! A few days later I received a second confirmation with a price of 40 euro more. I sent the 2 confirmations to the hotel asking for an explanation for the higher price. I accept that the city tax was added (10,12 euro), still leaves a price difference of 30 euros more! They said it was the dog, although there was a surplus of 20 euro for the dog in the first confirmation ! They did not even bother to have a proper look at what I have sent them. What a way to do bussiness. In any case I canceled my booking !

Madame, I, carefully, read the email exchange you had with my team. You asked about the 30 euros price difference between your room reservation and the total price of the reservation. The price difference is due to the extra fees for your dog and the city taxes as explained on the phone. The dog stay is a supplement and the city taxes are not included in the room price as stated on the confirmation e-mail. Our receptionist explained that several times on the phone and by e-mail. To sum up, the extra charges are: - the dog stay is charged 10 euros by dog by night, so 20 euros in total for your stay - the city taxes are 2.53 euros by night by person so 10.12 euros in total for your stay That explained the price difference of 30.12 euros on the e-mail. However, the total amount you would have paid at your arrival is the one confirmed when you did your reservation online. I understand that the confirmation e-mail might not be easy to understand with all the specificities, but the total amount was according to your reservation. You choose to cancel your reservation, and we are sorry about that. We would have been happy to welcome you at the hotel with your dog for your stay. Best regards, Céline

We loved our stay at the hotel. We couldn't have chosen a better location, close to shops and restaurants and close enough to visit our son who is completing a study abroad session at Excelia. The room size was perfect. We had a partial view of the port. Beds were very comfortable. We had breakfast in the hotel each day and would like to acknowledge the two young ladies Cat and Amber who were in charge on the breakfast room, they were so kind and helpful and we really enjoyed talking with them each morning. The fresh pastries that they made each day were excellent!

Location was perfect. Out either side of the hotel and you step right into the action. Very comfortable bed, slept well. We didn’t hear a peep outside even though our room overlooked the restaurants. A double layer of windows will keep out the sound and keep the cool air in. AC worked well. Our TV didn’t work and the staff sorted it out immediately. Special thanks to the guy who changed out the remote so we could watch Fort Boyard. Thank you for a great mini-break!
