We would have stayed longer than one night - but apart from reception, which was very good, the site felt neglected in many ways - no proper roadways, so it was dusty and even as we went to drain our grey water the drain was blocked, leaving a large puddle for me to add to. Simply put, the site needs some TLC, and attention to detail, ant could be very nice.

Surviving on past reputation!!! Huttopia Saumur, formerly Camping Chantepie, ( which I understand in the past, was family run and beautiful). On arrival, (late June, for 2 weeks) my heart sank, your initial view is one of a barren, un-cared for site - patchy dry grass and dusty tracks. The photographs you find on the website (both the "old" Chantepie site and new Huttopia site) and google images, flatter and were taken in bygone times. On various sources; adverts and publications, and signage as you approach, you will see the site rated as either 4 or 5*. - it is not a 5* site and really only 4* by way of the facilities and not quality. The emplacements lack maintenance, patchy dry grass and unkept hedging. The grass on our "premium" pitch had not been cut since the "last…

We prebooked a pitch for the May half term week. I emailed Huttopia to see if they had pitches with water/drainage and received a reply confirming ALL pitches had their own water. First issue was trying to find the site - the local signage was very poor and Huttopia had not updated the old "chantepie" signs so, had I not known it had been taken over, I would have thought I was going to the incorrect site. When we arrived at 13:00 we found the reception was closed from 12:00-16:00. We have found in France that receptions are often closed for a couple of hours in the middle of the day, but to find it was 4 hours with no information on what to do in the meantime meant we couldn't settle into our holiday. We decided to look around the site to find it was incredibly run-down,…

Hello, Thanks for your review of our campsite. We highly value the feedback of our customers. During the low season, the reception is closed from 12.00 to 4.00pm. you were right, there is no information tell you what to do in the meantime, we fixed this problem. But there is always an emergency number to call, written on the door. The bar/restaurant is open in the late june and the high season 7/7 from 8.00 am till late. The campsite has been refurbishing and it’s now ready to welcome you. We hope you will visit us again. The camping Team

Beautiful morning and evening views overlooking the Loire, plus bicycling and walking paths alongside the river. Hired a brand new safari tent for 3 nights on the way to our final destination. It isn't just that we didn't have to unload all our gear and put up our tent, it was really clean, really well provisioned, and really comfortable and fun. The staff are great like at all Camping Indigo locations. Good on-site bistro serving very nice pizza and salads, and small but good selection of drinks. They stock excellent reasonably priced local bottles of wine as well. We arrived 19th July and so the site was probably only a 3rd full, which I'm sure added to the experience. The day we arrived it was 38, however the situation on a hill meant there was always a slight breeze. The pool…

We stayed one Saturday night while cycle touring in France. Facilities are good, pitches overlooking the river have a great view, loo/shower blocks are clean & modern. There is a small shop selling wine & a selection of groceries. However a large group of people took over a marquee in the middle of the site from 9pm - 4am & set up a sound system with karaoke. Drunken very loud singing & yelling carried on until the early hours right up close to our tent & those of many other families. There were clearly no staff on site to shut this down. This is a fairly expensive campsite & I would certainly have expected better. I cannot recommend this place at all because we were unable to sleep.

Dear guest, We apologize for the noise mentioned in your comment. Please be sure that such bad behaviors are very unusual in Chantepie. Besides, in case it happens again while you are staying in one of our Huttopia campsites, an emergency number is available on the reception’s door. Please do not hesitate to call our managers 24h/24h, they will be available and pleased to help. Regards,

Nice campsite though was crowded in the peak season. Has a useful shop with wine, sauces, baguettes etc though you need to order these the day before. Good swimming pools and nice bar with entertainment. There is excellent little kiddies play area and a kiddies camp. The camp site has a fun crazy golf course and you can hire bicycles. Indeed this is the great bit about this site. It is on a hill, above the Loire and there is a nice cycling route s around there. I warn you though the climb up to the site is hard! Lots to see in the area especially wine caves and even a mushroom museaum. We loved it as we cycled but some of the sites you do need to drive to unless you are very fit!!

Lovely site but a little tired. It was end of season so that could explain it. The river view is worth it but not in high season. The staff are really great and very helpful. Good location to cycle from but a little hill to get to camp site. The cafe wasn't open in September but that was fine with dwindling numbers.

We booked this site months in advanced when it was independently owned having stayed at what was their sister site in Brissac which was outstanding. Like previous reviews initial impressions were that the site was neglected. Weeds in flower beds and very overgrown bushes between pitches, overhanging trees in need of cutting back. Not once in our two weeks did I see any maintenance. The shop had a very limited stock. The bar and restaurant were only open from 5pm and half the small menu not available. Then after a week they closed it completely, not even being able to buy a drink. Reception closed all afternoon so couldn't access the clubs for pitch and put which also needs some maintenence. They said the reason for these things was it was the end of season, yet there was still…

Dear guest, We thank you for your comment and are glad you enjoyed the wonderful view on the Loire from your pitch ! Indeed, we just took this site over and were not able to renovate it before the season started, but this is now being done and it will open this year as Huttopia Saumur, with new sanitary blocks, Reception, and playground for children. In spite of this bad first impression, we really hope having the pleasure to welcome you again this summer and that you will truly appreciate the campsite and all its facilities. Regards,

Was a little disappointed with the site, like other recent reviews. Seemed run down. Lovely views but only for very limited pitches. Flags around pool terrible, decking felt as though you was on a springboard. Generally needed a lot of maintenance, I know it was near the end of season but was expecting a lot more after reading previous reviews and watching the promotional video. Wont be in a rush to go back. Shame really

Last year this was a very special place to stay. There was a shop selling local or excellent produce, there were pony rides for the children, it was clean and tidy, you could buy local wine and take tours of the nearby vineyard, wifi was good. This time, the beautiful view remains but all the other things that made it special have gone. It is still a good campsite but there are many others that are good. One of the receptionists that sounded perhaps French Canadian was so miserable. We wanted to stay one more night and asked if a pitch was free, which it was, and looked as if I'd asked the most inconvenient question in the world. The many broken stones around the pool are really dangerous. I really hope they improve this place or we won't return. It used to be recommended in the…
