We had an exceptional dinner and breakfast. Chef is remarkable, maybe Michelin star. Everything was very good , except cleanles of the room and poor amenities in bathroom. They provide free IPad and free wifi.

Dear guests, We thank you for having shared your experience on TripAdvisor. We are glad to read that you fully enjoyed the Thibaut Rugerri's haute-cuisine. Thibaut Ruggeri won the World "Bocuse d’Or" trophy few years ago. The cleaning of the rooms is done daily. If some points have slipped out of our control and vigilance, feel free to inform our... We stayed here two nights on a recent tour of France and loved it. The rooms are historic and modern at the same time, with high quality finishes and a spacious bathroom. We ended up in a family suite by accident but enjoyed the extra space. It's two floors with twin daybeds and a half bath on the first, and... More

Dear guests, We thank you for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor. Staying at Fontevraud L'Hôtel is a unique way to enjoy the place even at night. During the peak season, it is right that our guests have to book a table in our restaurant in advance. Sometimes, you will have to wait 5 to 6 weeks to have a table... More

First, the good! The buildings are spectacular, the gardens are beautiful and it's magical to walk around the grounds of the abbey at night when there is nobody there but the abbey cats :) The fit out of the hotel with its incredible stone interior is beautifully complimented with stunning oak bespoke furniture. The bathroom was beautiful, comfortable beds and... More

UNIQUE PROPERTY IN DESPERATE NEED OF A MANAGEMENT OVERHAUL I wanted to love this hotel. In the beginning I did, and I forgave the odd quirks in customer service. The grounds are utterly surreal, almost in a Stanley Kubrick way. It’s not jut a hotel, but a compound made up of lots of buildings whose functions remained (at least to... More

Dear guest, In a long and detailed text, you share your annoyance on TripAdvisor. We are really surprised by the opinion you shared, because during your check out, you expressed a very different point of view. So, we will not answer point by point. However, it is important for us to publish here our version of the facts. It was... More

The architecture is very cool with wood stone and all earthy tones. It goes so well with the abbey generally. It was a hot night when we stayed and strangely for a new hotel it did not have air conditioning. It made for a slightly stressed night. But I still adored the whole ambiance of the hotel and the abbey... More

Dear guests, You thank you for having shared your experience on TripAdvisor. The summer has been especially scorching this year. Habitually, the thickness of the walls is a good insulation. Unfortunately, it does not protect as well after three consecutive days of high temperature in the outside. Indeed, we made a strong ecological choice refusing an air conditioning system in... More

Our 3 night stay in July 2016 was a complete mixture of most of the previous reviews. First the good things, the setting, the atmosphere, the freedom to wander around the abbey at any hour, the hotel itself and I would also include the friendliness and helpful attitude of the staff. Then the, well not bad but perhaps not good... More

Dear guests, You had published your experience on TripAdvisor, and we thank you for it. There was, apparently, a series of small regrettable technical incidents and we are sincerely sorry about it. Had a complete makeover since our last visit and has a distinctive modern twist within an ancient building. Our room on the 3rd floor was of modest size, simple, contemporary in design. The main attraction is being within the grounds of a magnificent World Heritage Site, with free access to all areas at all times. This gives one a chance... More

Setting was wonderful, however the facilities were lacking, especially for a 4 star hotel. The restaurant was closed. The bar was not staffed. No where to sit and have a drink outside in the evening. Dear guests, We thank you for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor. Reading your opinion, we notice there were negligences in our staff organization, that are quite unfortunate. On our restaurant closing days (Mondays and Tuesdays at the moment), the iBar is open and we offer a room-service menu available 24 hours a day. In Summer, on Mondays and Tuesdays nights,... More

We stayed here for one night on our way south. Reception is a long walk from the car park due to the layout of the enormous abbey complex. However, a buggy can be provided. Our room was (as is consistent with the hotel's history as a monastery later used as a penitentiary) quite simply furnished, and decorated in a very... More

This hotel is hard to review because in terms of style it seems lovely but in substance it just isn't up to the mark of a four star hotel. A stay at the heart of Fontevraud Royal Abbey? A night with Eleanor of Aquitaine, Queen of France and then Queen of England? Fontevraud L'Hotel offers an incomparable experience. At the Saint-Lazare priory, formerly the home of a community of nuns, the tradition of hospitality that is an intrinsic part of this place is being renewed. Sleeping in the tranquil silence of the Abbey, walking alone through the monastery as night falls ... These are magical private moments. The 54 rooms of this four-star hotel have been fitted out with great respect for this almost 1000 year-old monument, whose face is firmly turned towards the future.
