This two star hotel is close to the Gare du Lyon, just south of Bastille. I'm not sure how full the hotel was, so have no idea whether the room I had was given to me of necessity or through some less generous impulse. Nowadays...More

Yes, me and my husband consider that it's safe to walk on Rue de Lyon and around Gare de Lyon, we actually done it at midnight and there were enough decent people at the restaurant, on October 2014, the same thing for walking thru Place de Bastille. Instead, going to Bercy (the opposite direction for Bastille), there is a less lightened passage/road, smelling of urine, on which I'll be suspicious to go late at night ... Over all, I would not worry enjoying late night travelling solo, we've done it for 5 different visits and had no problems :)
