Spent 4 nights October 2004. Small but very attractive rooms, sparkling clean bathrooms, , conveniently located, walking distance to Luxembourg Gardens, Sorbonne, Notre Dame, St Chapelle, Cluny. Staff very nice. Sylvie at the desk is a gem, friendly and very helpful. There's an ATM just around the corner, and a wonderful cafe, L'Ecritoire, with reasonably priced dinners at 12-20 euros,... I stayed at this hotel in the same week as the last reviewer. I also turned up around 6:30 pm to discover that a confirmed reservation could not be honoured because of overbooking - further inquiries revealed that they were 8-10 rooms overbooked most nights last week. I was lucky - they had found me a nice room at the... More

Tried to stay there the other night since it does have a great location and looks pretty nice. Got to the hotel around 10pm with a PRE PAID room but they still said they didn't have my room. Needless to say, I was not too happy at that point. The guy there did though call around for other hotels and... More

Just back from three nights at the Hotel Central Saint Germain in August 2004. The location is great, with all the classic Ile de la Cite sights within a few minutes walk. There are countless restaurants and bars within staggering distance, although some are VERY touristy. On the whole, the better places are to the north of Blvd St Germain... More

My husband and I stayed at Central St Germain in late March 04 for 4 nights. Excellent location and service! Rooms might be small, but they are clean and comfortable. We really did not care about the size of it. We were in Paris and did not have time to measure the room! We were out day and night and... More

August 2004 We have just returned today from a 4 night break at this hotel and we were really delighted with it. It is in an excellent location on the left bank, within walking distance of lots of lovely places, e.g. Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Seine, Jardins du Luxembourg. It is in the heart of the Sorbonne area, yet... More

We booked here for 2 nights (1st trip to Paris), based largely on good Trip Advisor reviews. 'Glad we did! Two triple rooms for family of 5 were spotless with sparkling, modern bathrooms & a/c. Sure, the rooms are small, but get over it---it's Paris. The hotel is on a quaint, quiet street, but only steps away from cafes, fountains.... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
