This is the place where is possible to live a tipical Parisian way of life. With old premisses and furniture - but clean linen, wonderful location and astonishing view to the Notre Dame. Nothing can be compared to weak up in the mornig with the song of Notre Dame's bells! Staff are friendly and helpful. It is a must to...

We were heading to Rome on the train for a few weeks and we needed a room in Paris when we would return, we headed to the Hotel Esmeralda to secure a room. There was definitely some character in the old owner who seemed eccentric, as she had a small dog (which bit my friend - no harm) and was...

Although our expectations were not very high based on the price and some of the previous reviews, this hotel was a real disappointment. When we walked into the room for the first time, we knew we had made a mistake. The room was very dated and tired and not in good condition. We stayed one night and then moved to...

My partner and I spent our honeymoon at the Hotel Esmeralda in May 2007 and, although it was a somewhat eccentric place the view was worth the money alone. The room was unusual, but not run-down, and the electrics were all new. Although the bathroom (yes, there was always plenty of piping hot water) and separate toilet were very small,...

Wow! We had read the reviews and so were expecting small rooms, irratic hot water and the occasional iffy odour. What we experienced was a fantastic, large light sunny room, with a view of Notre Dame. The bathroom was clean and bright with hot water a plenty. The reception that we received on arrival was warm courteaus without being obtrusive....

We’ve stayed at the Esmeralda before, so knew what to expect – tiny bedrooms, even smaller bathrooms and the most precipitous stairway imaginable; but bags of character. As for the location, read the reviews – fantastic! Other reviewers have already said it won’t suit everyone, but we loved it. Why the past tense? Well the breakfasts have gone; steaming hot...

I stayed with my family. Now, imagine if you will, a young family of five, with 2 children under fifteen, lugging everything needed for a two-month whirlwind tour of europe (so each family member, children included, carrying own bags) arriving for a five day stay, exhausted from jetlag, and seeing upon arrival the winding timber staircase, facing rooms on the...

I will never forget my 3 nights at hotel esmerelda and I will return here one day. Let me explain first that my priority with european hotels are character, history, location and price. I am not one that needs pampered and would rather stay in a place with history than a place with hairdryers in each room. For this trip...

I stayed at this hotel on the trip when I got engaged to my wife, but I don't think this clouds my opinion THAT much! The Esmeralda has a location and a view that can't be beat. From the best rooms (such as ours, #14) have tal and wide windows that open onto an impossibly impressive and nearby Notre Dame...

If you want chic Paris, this is not it. The Hotel Esmeralda is in a 17th century building located in the busy Latin Quarter and the staff are helpful and discreet. I stayed for two weeks and for me it was the perfect base to discover Paris. Room 10 is tiny and there is a narrow, winding staircase to reach...

Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
One of the most original hotels in the French capital. Opened over 100 years ago in a 17th century building, the Esmeralda Hotel bears the name of the gypsy girl that, thanks to her grace, illuminated the story by Victor Hugo. Central, well communicated, charming, quiet, comfortable ... Each room is unique and has its own personality. Artists such as Hugo Pratt, Béjart, Gainsbourg ... were regular clients at the hotel. You can also talk about Paris, art and literature as most of our receptionists are writers and poets with PhD at the Sorbonne. Please, do not miss the authentic flavor of the Latin Quarter. Be warmly welcomed at the nearest hotel to Notre Dame for the best value for money in Paris: the staff will immediately address all your queries with their proverbial kindness. ... more   less
