such a fantastic bohemian area, anything from great shops to wonderful family owned hotels. not to forget the great nightlife. Le Marais is known for its free spirited nightlife with gay bars aplenty. if you fancy something more relax and more of a cafe type then you won't be dissapointed.

Le Marais is one of the essential walking tours of Paris. All the major guidebooks describe great pathways. Take them. The Place des Voges is a trip - Victor Hugo's hang out. Wonderful bistro on almost every corner. The French have the concept of "le Flaneur" the seedy old dude in a moth eaten sweater with a Galouse cig pointing...

Staying in Le Marais

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
