We ate in this restaurant two years ago. The service was so bad it was comical. As it was raining and were staying in the hotel we ate here again. The service hasn’t improved, basically you wait and wait, firstly for the menu, then to order, then even longer to eat. Ordering a bottle of wine took three attempts as after 15 minutes were told out of stock ditto the second. We were told by the waiter our mains had been served to the adjacent table meaning a further 20 minute wait. When they eventually arrived the mushrooms were icy cold. The other diners thought it was hilarious. On paying the bill not even the slightest apology so I asked for a reduction so they didn’t charge for the wine. Pity the food is quite good.

I found it hard to decide how to rate this hotel but overall we had a really good and enjoyable stay so yes 4 stars :) Arrived late to find that the 2 rooms we had booked were in separate buildings, neither with a lift so not ideal for the 2 elderly ladies with us. We spoke to the young receptionist (Leah??)the following morning, who was exceptionally kind, friendly and professional and found a solution so that we would both be on the same floor and on the first floor. We also met her on the square one evening as we were taking photos and she very kindly stopped and offered to take one of the four of us together! Much appreciated! Overall, staff were very friendly and professional. Breakfast was great, decent continental, with plenty of variety and good quality food, which was consistently topped up. We had dinner twice in the restaurant attached to the hotel and found the food and service very good. Fantastic location in the town with free parking at the door. Chinon is an absolutely gorgeous little town!! Both rooms were clean and of a good size. What a lovely touch to have a kettle and tea/coffee making in the hallway!! Our room was of a decent standard and comfortable with good bedding, no complaints whatsoever, and a beautiful view of the nearby church spire. The ladies' room, however, was an apartment, quite substandard for a 3 star and in need of renovation. No natural light or window in the kitchen/sitting-room, which was painted an ugly yellow. It was however clean and well-maintained so was not a major issue, and most importantly thanks to Leah? the four of us were accommodated on the same floor! Grand merci to all at le lion d'or chinon, we had a lovely stay with you!!

Quaint old world restaurant with a welcoming local feeling and wonderful dinner and dessert. We enjoyed a salad and then the duck, which was prepared to perfection. The dessert was so creative served as a sphere around a fruit compote with kiwi, pineapple, mandarins. No this is not a stark and clean line restaurant that can be so popular today, but a wonderful hint into a warm and inviting traditional ambience.

Great bar right in the middle of town. Very friendly and helpful staff. Just get you pastries from the boulangerie around the corner and sit here and watch the world go by. The food looked good although we did not here so cannot comment.

We stayed at this hotel whilst travelling around France. The hotel has a bar and restaurant on site. Secure and private motorbike parking is provided within a courtyard area of the hotel. Hotel staff are extremely friendly and helpful and speak very good english. Breakfast is provided at an extra cost, however we never ate breakfast at the hotel. Rooms are big and comfortable and the WIFI worked very well. Flat screen TVs with a couple of english News channels. The centre of Chinon is only a 5 minute walk away, where you will find plenty of bars, shops and restaurants. Note on a Sunday and Monday most of these are closed all day. note: when we stayed the weather was extremely hot, however this hotel did not have air-conditioning, there was a large fan in the room.

We booked a family room in this hotel, which was clean but very hot. There is was air-con and whilst windows could open, the room was facing the street and it was quite noisy. We asked the receptionist for an iron, as there was none in the room, and she couldn’t help. We had to disclose that we were attending a family funeral, and she told us to ask the hotel next door! You can’t get worse customer service!

I paid 260 euros for a room which sleeps 4 for 2 nights. It has a small kitchenette. This hotel is not a 3 star hotel by any standard. Do not stay here. It is very very basic. The only positive is that it is in the town centre.

This is not a 3 stars hotel, I have no idea what is the criteria to get 3 stars, but this does not reserve them. The hotel smells bad, it is a little dirty the walls of the room, carpet, the blue color of my room really awful, from the picture looks different, clean and new, but this is not, there were two flies in my room, incredible!!! the breakfast is very poor, WIFI with lot of difficulties to connect every time, we had the worst nights of all our trip, without sleeping well due to the high temperatures and without air conditioner, it was summer period, so don't book it unless being your very very last option :( , I was sweating all the night and the first night I could not open the windows due to the flies and spiders in and outside the window, very noisy in early hours of the morning. One fan is not enough, even it doesn't work for this kind of rooms and temperature, unfortunately I booked in a very last minute and I did not check the comments and services very well but as I saw 3 stars I would not have imagined it was without air conditioner and the pictures apparently looked good. It is a little expensive thinking in all its deficiencies. Two good things are the bathroom, believe it or not, because it was clean, although the shower too small but was ok, and the second and it is really a pity that the facilities are not good, because they have a VERY VERY NICE and wonderful receptionist, or maybe is the owner, I don't remember her name but is the only one who speaks English, she gave us the best of the best advises to visit the Val de Loire, solved all our doubts and helped us with a second fan to have one in each side of the beds. We tried to cancel the second night but was not possible, of course after finishing our staying we escaped immediately next morning. Close to the hotel and the tourism office there is a best western hotel with very similar prices and AIR CONDITIONER.
