I stayed here as part of my trip through France. My room was a traditionally furnished room with modern amenities. More spacious than other hotels in France with a gorgeous view overlooking the garden. Each morning I had a delicious breakfast of fresh fruits, breads, homemade jams, yogurt and coffee by the fire in the breakfast room. The owners, as...

I cannot say enough about this gem. My sister and I shared a twin room here for a few nights last month. The place oozes charm from our room overlooking the garden to the 14th century breakfast room. The husband and wife owners to their small staff, everything was done to make us feel well cared for. The breakfast, including...

This is a very nice hotel that is a short walk from the restaurants and shops of the old town. The owners, whom we met during the delightful breakfast, are great hosts and are in the process of renovating this 14th century building. We stayed in what they call the annex, a building next to the main hotel and with...

We have stayed at the Diderot numerous times since 2004. Jamie and Jean-Pierre are delightful hosts, showing warm hospitality to each of their guests. Each morning we planned our day under their guidance over a breakfast of fresh fruits, breads, homemade jams, yogurt and coffee. The hotel is a short walk from our favorite historical chateau, Chinon which has added...

I have previously stayed in this hotel and wanted to take my wife there - well positioned and pleasant rooms, we stayed in a side annex which was fine. Sadly you are now unable to use the garden to drink your own wine, and their bar closes at 20:30 - great pity. We also had to pay for parking in...

Good morning CHRIS, thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay, your room and the location of the hotel. Balancing the conflicting wishes of different clients is always a tough act : as for the bar, it closes at 8.30 pm because the overwhelming majority of our guests choose the Diderot...

Great place to stay in Chinon. Good hospitality, traditionally furnished rooms. Unique breakfast with home made jams, breads, croissants and brioche, goat cheese, honey, fruit and apple juice from local producers. We have stayed in this venue for our October break for the last 3 years and enjoyed our stay every time.

My teen-aged daughter and I had a brilliant time in the Loire Valley using this hotel as our base. We were lucky to get one of the rooms off the courtyard with access to an outdoor table and bench - perfect for a pre-dinner aperitif with friends who travelled with us. Our room was quite comfortable and looked as it...

Good morning, guests that make arrangements for an extended stay in Chinon soon realize that it is a perfect base to explore the Loire Valley (halfway between Angers and Tours). And that there are enough good restaurants here to have an exceptional meal every evening. We like it when our guests take the time to soak in the atmosphere and...

It is called a "Boutique Hotel," but our stay provoked a stronger response. We had a ground floor room with sewage smell emanating from the bath drain. There was no bathroom ventilation, so it tended to waft into the other room. The staff were very unhelpful and recommended a restaurant we think might have been closed for 2 years. You...

Dear PETER, this a harsh review, but, fortunately, it cannot be about our hotel. We are not a " boutique hotel " (we do not even know what that means). There is bathroom ventilation in all the rooms ; we know which restaurants are open and which are closed (we try all of them at least twice a year). We...

Nicely restored older building. Owners were very welcoming. No air conditioning but fans in the rooms. Well located within the the of Chinon with some off street parking available. Simple French breakfast with plenty of tasty French jams and jellies to sample.

We last stayed in the Hotel Diderot some 7 years ago, since when the hotel's ownership has changed so that it is now owned by Jamie and Jean-Pierre DAGNEAUX - Jamie being the American wife of Jean Pierre. At the time of our stay the hotel was really rather overwhelmed by groups of Americans, in particular, also cyclists so that...
