Having stayed at various Malmaison hotels in the last 10 years and loving the service, room standards and the excellent staff, we were mortified when on our second evening we walked into the bar which serves beautiful but not cheap food and found a dog lay in there, but the most annoying aspect was the attitude of the management when... Stayed here 3 times now in the same room (The Romeo & Juliet Suite) as soon as you walk into the hotel it has this incredibly boutique feel to it, very welcoming reception area, wonderfully lit and furnished. The Romeo & Juliet suite in incredible, a very spacious room with a large sofa, chairs and table, high quality TV with... More

The room was fabulous, huge and decor very modern, they had even wrote out a birthday card for me. Comfiest bed I have ever slept in we didn't want to leave. The hotel was a very short walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station and in a great location for getting around that part of the city. The receptionist was welcoming and friendly. The room was very spacious, comfortable and well designed. There was a complimentary newspaper in the morning. Paying £13 for breakfast did not appeal to me. I skipped breakfast at... More

In my opinion this is the best hotel in Manchester. The rooms are comfy, the food is great, the cocktails are outstanding, the location is perfect and the staff are top notch. All places have issues now and again, but it's how you deal with them that make the difference between a mediocre and a great hotel. Malmaison gets it... More

Stayed here for 1 night on a cheap deal through booking.com £59 for room only. First time staying at Malmaison and I would give it another chance. Young lady on reception was lovely on checking in although didn't mention checking out times so I had to call down. We had a drink in the bar although £17.50 for 2 glasses... More

We were looking forward to staying in this hotel with some friends to celebrate my sisters birthday. We had a junior roo m which was very spacious. Lovely decor etc. unfortunately the room absolutely stank of marijuana. This started to give me a headache. We rang down to report this to see if we could change rooms. The on,y room... More

We stay every time we visit Manchester and every time we have a great time! The Restaurant is tremendous and the bar with super creative cocktail makers always leaves us looking forward to coming back. The recent addition of a starbucks coffee shop beside the hotel is handy if you like that kind of thing. Staff are very helpful, too.

On both occasions I had then misfortune to attend the reception desk, I kind of expected a guy to appear with a camera! Last night, when i arrived, after a long drive , I stood for a while, while both receptionists were on the phone , then, they served the guy behind me, then took another phone call before allowing... We were recommended to this hotel as one of the in places in Manchester. It's conveniently located near Piccadilly Station and drinks are predictably expensive. Modern decor, but very dark in the Reception and the Bar. Extremely slow service from the bar staff - we had to remind them at least twice to have our first drinks, and it wasn't... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mal Manchester: In the home of the beautiful game you're about to turn Moulin Rouge. A short trundle for wheel-based luggage from Piccadilly Station and you're at the Mal - somewhere in the mists between Paris and the 24-hour party city. You cross the chessboard reception and suddenly you're a king for the knight. It's your move. Smoak Bar and Grill at Mal Manchester: A grill room and bar quite unlike anything Manchester has ever before seen. Set in the award-winning Malmaison Hotel minutes from Piccadilly station, Smoak is total indulgence for the senses. The amazing aroma of nation's finest oak-smoked steaks and fresh fish, served to a pewter counter or cosy booth. Imagine great imported beers, cocktails and bubbly served from an unusual sunken bar, with highly skilled mixologists serving you while you stay seated. Picture a stylish relaxed but chic interior a mix of booths, banquettes and counter stools. Come lunchtime and it's locally sourced bread, generously filled sandwiches and salads or full blown grill dining for the more adventurous lunchtime escapee. Come sundown the mood changes and we turn the aromas up to eleven. The cocktails flow, the steaks sizzle, the music turns up and the night begins. Ember Lounge at Mal Manchester: We could tell you about the Ember Lounge - an immaculate and opulent cocktail bar furtively hidden to the rear of the Smoak Bar & Grill. ... more   less
