Stayed there both going to and coming home from holiday. good value hotel, even have a happy hour for a couple of cheap drinks. Food is reasonable and quite edible the breakfast good value if you get the voucher the night before £7 basically all you can eat, and a good selection. Rooms a little dated, large king size beds...

I have stayed here before and the service was ok and the hotel it self is lovely hence why I booked again. However on this occasion the service I experienced was poor from start to finish. I arrived at 2:15pm (book in time 2pm) and I was told my room was not ready and asked if I could wait 15...

Given imposing facade of hotel I was quite disappointed with interior especially common parts that are spacious but oldish. Was also disappointed that room had no window but just a hatch in a corner of the ceiling. Location and friendly staff make up for those shortcomings and breakfast pleasant too.

Evening Carvery ... The Gammon ( only meat on offer) was ok but the veg was all from the freezer. Only ate there one night. Staff pleasant and...

We arrived late and was met with staff that seemed to be asleep and service was slow .We stayed here for one night and came very...

Now the gripes - booked an inside room with no windows as it was city centre and i wanted a quiet sleep - i had a very long drive...

The architecture in the reception area is amazing, with huge chandeliers and exuberant Victorian ironwork. There's an award certificate on the wall behind the receptionist for sensitive modernisation, dated 1985. The receptionist was very nice and upgraded me from a single windowless room to a double room with a window. The bathroom fittings and wardrobe in this room probably hark...

Noisy (both traffic and guests), old and worn carpets, clean beds and bathroom, poor breakfast, centrally sited, staff not too helpful. Communications very good. Easy arrival from airport by train (circa 15 minutes).
