This was a last minute booking and we made a good choice. I'll start with the down side. We had a twin room which was a decent size though the beds were o casters and a couple of times I found myself inadvertently pushing the bed to the window when I sat down on my bed, so be careful. The...

Very nice, friendly and warm like a family house. I got surprised when they upgraded me for the same rate. They give the best rates in the town. I really enjoyed my stay; perfect location, good service and cooperative staff. The service is extremely good if u look to the rate!

We have been staying here for years and this time we noticed a slight but definite improvement in housekeeping and in the breakfast. We always request the same room, overlooking the car park, so that we don't get too much noise from the roads. The location, bang in the centre of town, is brilliant, but does tend to mean a...

We usually stay at the travelodge opposite this hotel but will be staying here from now on. The travelodge is modern but the Kings Arms is full of character, has a bar, a restaurant and parking (£5 per stay) and that makes it a much better bet in my book. Add to that friendly helpful staff and free wifi and...

The room wasn't the greatest though we aren't the types for luxury I would describe it as " Humble " Vibrant night life of Lancaster at your window. By vibrant I mean it has a large university so a Friday night can be pretty loud. Breakfast was Pretty good though didnt take notice of my Eggs as they were far...

The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and always available. The decor is tired and stuck in the 1980s but the rooms and all communal areas are scrupulously clean. Breakfast gives plenty of choice and is served without delay Just a minute's walk from the station and city centre. My room looked out onto the road but noise was minimised by double...

I would have given a 3 rating, except for the cons identified below. I stayed for 2 nights, room only, from 13th March 2015 in room 319, so can only comment on the room and generally. Pros: 1. Location, if you want central Lancaster. 2. Old traditional hotel, great building. Cons: 1. Hotel in need of some investment. My room,...

This is a beautiful old building in a fantastic central location with a secure car park. The staff are excellent, helpful and friendly. Sadly, the decor is about 20 years overdue for an update, the whole place could do with a deep clean and the room was shabby, dirty (dusty, in need of vacuuming properly and I stocked drinks facilities)...

We arrived early and left our bags. Returned at 2pm to check in. Excellent rooms with tea making facilities. Beds comfy and spacious. Breakfast good with lots of choices. Would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We always offer the best prices to our guests direct through hotel reception so be sure to call us first. Fantastic all round venue in a central location, ideal for weddings and functions, everything under one roof. In the heart of the historic city of Lancaster, with views of its famous castle, stands the Royal Kings Arms Hotel. Originally built in 1625 and later rebuilt in 1879, the hotel was immortalized by Charles Dickens in his tale of "The Lazy Tour of Two Idle Apprentices". This Grade II listed hotel has 55 comfortable en-suite bedrooms, including the luxury Castle Suite, with its four poster bed and views of the castle, the entrance to which is just 50 yards away. With origins dating back almost 1,000 years Lancaster Castle, a Grade 1 listed building, occupies a city-centre hilltop location on the site of three successive Roman forts and has been described by English Heritage as "not only the North-West's most important historic and archaeological monument but also of international importance". Other historic buildings in Lancaster include the Judge's Lodgings and the Doll Museum. The sea plays a big part in Lancaster's history and the Maritime Museum is a fascinating place to visit. Beyond the city, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach, while the seaside resorts of Morecambe and Blackpool are a short drive away. Breakfast is available when checking in at reception, we do have car parking facilities at £5 per car per stay at the rear of the hotel. ... more   less

“Toilet flusher in our room wasn't working properly and took several attempts , this wasn't very good as I was sharing . Could do with a bed side lamp as you either have to have the main light on or get out of bed to switch the lamp on the dressing table either on or off ”
