From the balconied Reception Lounge, to the open fire you instinctively know that Lancaster House is a place to savour the good things in life, such as excellent cuisine from The Foodworks Restaurant, or a drink in the courtyard of The Sandeman's Bar. This relaxed elegance is also reflected in each of the 99 rooms.

Ridiculous charge of £12 per night to park at this hotel. I can possibly understand if it’s in a city centre location, but it’s rural. Huge car park less than 50% full. Probably won’t use again. Unacceptable.

This is a lovely hotel with very friendly staff. We are local but needed somewhere to stay for a few night whilst we had a new bathroom fitted. The huge bonus for us is that the hotel is cat friendly (they need to stay in the bedrooms), which meant we could take our cat with us instead of him being scared at home on his own whilst the works were being carried out. We might take him on holiday again to the Lancaster house or another English Lakes property now :)

We had an excellent afternoon tea at Lancaster House Hotel. Food was different to typical afternoon tea and all very tasty and good quality. A really nice variety of savoury items and cakes. Free refills of hot drinks. Friendly and helpful service by Dougie J.

Great location and garden area (especially if you have dogs to walk). Suites are great, with lots of space. Nice bar area (couldn't use the restaurant as we had dogs) and pool. Staff generally very friendly and helpful.

I came here for a 2 day overnight work event with lunch and dinner provided, and this hotel was very much average in terms of 4 star hotels I stayed in to far. The hotel is really old so the carpets in the room were dirty and old, but the beds and rooms were nice otherwise. Breakfast was ok, the continental had hardly anything, like just fruit salad and cereal, but nothing in terms of deli meats, eggs, or even fresh fruit and the staff at the breakfast area were rude. Another thing was the heating, this hotel was cold especially in the corridors and some of the conference rooms. Positives were the free fruit, tea and coffee at our conference area, White Company products in the bathrooms, nice beds, decent gym and pool albeit small, and also availability of beauty, hair and nail services. Lunch and Dinner were tasty and the seating areas were nice. Overall average at best, a couple of positives but also a number of negatives. The continental breakfast has much to be desired before I can give this even a 4 star review.

As part of a UK association of obesity conference over 220 delegates were staying in here and in the university. Our small cohort of 20 national leaders spent between 1-2 nights here. The first night disrupted by a noisy room 90 and security called 3 times at 3am. They should have been kicked out especially as this was a quiet zone. Whilst the breakfast was good (rather strict unwelcoming attendant though) and we did spend the first night in the bar, having food and drink, the second night was rather ruined by very rude bar staff. Essentially, at the end of the gala dinner, we were asked to take the left over bottles of wine with us. We did and rather than spend time in the noisy uni bar we wanted the quiet environment of the hotel bar. We bought a couple of bottles of wine from the bar and sat quietly drinking them. We were not rowdy, and consisted of a Professor who had help organise the conference and the remainder prominent GPs , leaders in their field. ie not a stag do, not a rowdy bunch etc. One waiter decided to take it upon himself to come over asking how we are then told us how we are not allowed wine bought externally in the bar and it was rude for us to bring it in. It was unprovoked and very rude. When trying to eplain we were lectured about it. We were quite clear we weren't drinking it and had actually bought and were drinking the bar wine. This didn't seem to matter however as the next waiter, more politely gave us a lecture about the same. I moved a bottle to make more room on the table, having no idea it was not a bar bought bottle and was subsequently met with accusations that I was trying ot hide the bottle. All completely unjustifed, unprovoked and putting a dampner on our experience. I could understand if we were sitting there drinking it but we had actually bought, and were drinking their wine!! Also considering the business the conference organisers had brought into the place , this really was unnecessary and plain rude. I would have said lovely rooms, and clean spa but really its the people that make it and on this occasion it was far from meeting the standard. I for one won't be returning after such rude and immature behaviour. I don't know what my colleagues feel but I suspect the same, as all felt it was rude and unnecessary.

Stayed three nights on business. The property is located just outside the town and has lots of parking. Room was fine with a shower over bath. The bathroom included shower gel, shampoo, hand wash and moisturising cream in bottles with a pump lid. I thought the hand wash in particular smelt quite pleasant. I didn’t hear any noise from neighbouring rooms and bed was comfortable so I had a decent sleep. Breakfast starts at 7am. You can help yourself to fruit juice, fruit, cereal and Bircher. Servers bring hot drinks and a big basket of toast and pastries whether you offer it or not. Portion sizes for the cooked options were big.

This place has become substandard and disagreeably disappointing. New rules, which are barely agreeable for families, state that children under the age of 16 must be out of the pool by an early curfew of 7:00pm. Additionally, children over the age of 8 are no longer allowed to use hot tubs (apparently due to insurance - maybe there have been a rash of claims world wide resulting in large insurers adding clauses to their policies - or perhaps this is an untruth or convenient excuse). I understand these newly established rules have come about without consultation of members and with little to no forewarning or communication, (this place being a members and supposedly a family club after all). Perhaps they would do better to engage with and actually listen to their members rather than make up new and seemingly meaningless arbitrary rules.

Good points: all the staff, hotel grounds, inside the hotel, food, pianist playing Madness songs in the reception, leisure facilities, comfy bed, dog friendly and the cost of the pooch was wavered as he'd not been given a welcome pack and bed, which was a nice gesture from the hotel Bad: scruffs who stayed in our self catering apartment prior to our arrival and literally stole everything that wasn't nailed down: hairdryer, pans, cutlery crockery, glasses, cups, toaster, bin, utensils, coat hangers This lead to the already busy staff having to go to B and M and buy emergency supplies and which put a little bit of a dampener on the experience for us. The management provided us with free evening meal and breakfast to make up for the fact we couldn't cook any of the food we brought until the evening of the 2nd day and we appreciated this. All in all, would come back again, and stay in the same apartment as it was a nice apartment and complex.
