The management staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs in being put into a quiet, airy room. Hannah for her service, with her infectious welcoming smile, in the pop up restaurant and at Breakfast. Eleanor, who served us with a smile at Breakfast and located the honey.

Hotel's Favourite
I stayed here for one night with a coach trip. I was a bit apprehensive after reading earlier reviews. I need not have worried. Maybe the hotel is a bit Tired but the bed was comfortable and the evening meal and breakfast were excellent. The surrounding are lovely. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel itself is rather nice but overall it fell short of what I’m used to with a Marriott hotel. All the staff were nice, but the dinner menu was rather basic - breakfast far better. We had an executive room, that didn’t feel executive and not sure why we were not given a front room when hotel wasn’t really busy - we had a view of the roof and extractor fans - so not great. I’d suggest relegating those room to a standard. Pool was great. Overall, disappointing.

We stay here quite regularly - not because the hotel is fabulous but because it's the only one in the area which has proper king sized beds available, and because the location is perfect as we are driving down the A6. They don't do weddings either which means you dont have all that noise to contend with. Hopefully now it's being rebranded this update will continue throughout the interior. The rooms are very dark and dated. There was a slight issue when we arrived as my message did not seem to have got through to say we needed a ground floor room due to mobility issues and by the time we arrived they had all been allocated and most of the lifts are currently being replaced, but the reception girls quickly got that sorted and gave us a family room with 2 double beds. The mattresses were in dire need of replacement - terribly saggy and one of them had a huge dip in the middle making them extremely uncomfortable. The duvets are horrendously heavy. There is no need to have something so heavy as you can get a good amount of heat from a much lighter weight duvet. I struggled to move under it as it weighed down so much and I have arthritis in my shoulder making it almost impossible to turn over. We did ask at reception for something lighter and were given sheets to use instead but the weather turned a bit cooler so the sheet was just too thin. I cannot imagine how the cleaning staff cope with changing the covers on these monstrosities daily when people check out. The cost of the 3 night stay for us was around £450 for room only. Extremely expensive. If we had booked B&B it would have been over £500. I do realise the spa/pool etc is probably covered in this price but perhaps a different price bracket to include or disclude the amenities might be a better idea as we were only basing ourselves there to sleep, and go out and about all day. The only other issue we had, which was of no fault of the hotel in any way, was the way some other guests had no concept of the amount of noise they make nor did they seem to care. We were wakened regularly to doors being let slam shut rather than gently closed at very early hours (there were a lot of workmen/businessmen staying) and in the room directly above us there was at least one child who sounded as if they were using the bed as a trampoline to bounce off of, onto the floor with a massive thud then run up and down the floor constantly from 6am each of the mornings.

We stayed for two nights and had a mixed experience. The room we spent our first night in was not good. It was in the main hotel building, overlooking the entrance and it was not just tired, but exhausted! It had a properly 1980s vibe to it and was full of things that didn't work (air-con, trouser press and fan)! The ceiling and external wall was damp stained and the bedroom window only opened 10cm. Not enough to get any air circulating but enough for the smoke from all the smokers to rise up into the room first thing in the morning. The tiles in the bathroom were cracked and the bath panel was warped from repeated dousing by the shower. We raised all the issues with the hotel reception team and they apologised and moved us to one of the newer rooms further away from the main building. This room was well fitted out and in a good state of repair. Unfortunately, the window opening was still very restricted but it was a cooler room and the fan in this one worked. The breakfast was good, with a decent selection of choices. The fitness centre and pool was the best bit of the hotel and we really enjoyed being able to use the facilities there.

Hotel is dated rooms are quite old fashioned bathrooms very dated. No fridge in rooms and only enough coffee and milk to have one each. Leisure facilities good & changing rooms clean. Only 1 lager on draft (becks) and it was flat. Breakfast was excellent , huge choice and all very fresh.

Ok - so, the hotel is in an excellent location really close to the M6. Superb setting and has a real country feel. Rooms clean and tidy and fairly modern. Resturant for both dinner and breakfast was really good and not stupidly expensive. The one thing that let this hotel down was the check in. Even with Marriott status, a booking for two rooms made in December 2021 and email and app confirmation it took a staggering 23 minutes to book in. Three staff and no other guests in sight couldn’t allocate me two rooms that were booked, confirmed and paid for! In all my 1000+ night stays at a Marriott have I never had such difficulty checking in. Worse, the lift wasn’t working so two Women staff assisted me in moving (read lugging) 4 cases up 3 flights of stairs. No one available on check out to help so I had to do all the heavy lifting myself. Just not good enough. Oh and BTW - £494 stay for just 2 nights.

We stopped over on our way up to Scotland and glad we chose this hotel. The grounds were kept to a good standard as well as a good level of cleanliness in the room and other areas. No complaints with the food served at the bar as well as breakfast which was of a good quality. Service was attentive in the bar and only point was at breakfast we were shown to our table but no explanation as to how breakfast worked, a small point as it was easy enough to fathom out but being it was our first stay would have been helpful to have been told. It was great to see that Marriott still had hand sanitisers in place throughout the hotel which for me still demonstrated that whilst we now live with Covid that it still cares for its Customers. We will be definitely looking to stay at another Marriott on our way back down from Scotland

This hotel has let me down repeatedly but I’m forced to stay here because of the poor options in the area and need to be here for work. The rooms are dated, run down and the sound proofing is terrible. The staff used to be really nice but there seems to have been a change and now they’re not really interested. Shocked Marriott let it stay in this state and don’t do anything to update it or make it remotely comfortable. Absolutely awful, would not recommend
