Stayed at the Royal Hop Pole for a birthday weekend. The location is excellent, the room was very nice and clean, the food was better than a lot of Wetherspoons and the staff were very good. If we return to Tewkesbury for any reason in the future we will definitely stay at the Royal Hop Pole again.

Went for a late breakfast at 11.30am on way to Cornwall. Most impressed with this pub which is located adjacent to the river. Food very reasonably priced and served quickly by friendly staff. Tried to book a room for our return trip but they were fully booked. However not too surprised as it looked fab 1 Will try again !

Better than your average weatherspoons. Welcoming log fire, friendly locals, decent food and excellent value for money. Reasonable sized car park and nice beer garden. Definitely worth a visit. Very handy place to eat and / or stay if visiting Tewkesbury Abbey.

Location excellent, right in the centre of Tewkesbury. Room was spacious and quiet with a nice large TV, good bathroom and storage. Breakfast was very good and value for money. Amazing features in some corridors - medieval frescos and banqueting halls!

Excellent stay. Very helpful and pleasant receptionist. Comfortable bed with lovely white fresh linen. Room spotless - the cleaning staff do a wonderful job and are a real asset. Had dinner and breakfast here too served promptly and very enjoyable. Again all the staff very pleasant and efficient constantly checking and clearing/cleaning tables.

This was our third visit to The Royal Hop Pole: in fact we like it so much that we have arranged a party here next April! I've mentioned in a previous review that it must be the jewel in Wetherspoons' crown: the hotel rooms are very comfortable, well-equipped and excellent value for money (and don't start me on the high...

We stayed here for one night a couple of weeks ago. Great hotel for the price, staff helpful and friendly. Good location in the centre of Tewkesbury with parking included. Really interesting to see the medieval hallway as well.

The Hotel was very welcoming to our party (4of us) As always this is a very popular venue and deservedly so. The food is not only good but is consistently so, we have been to other Wetherspoons where this is not always the case. We were made very welcome and can only say that this is a good venue for...

I have stayed in a number of Spoons hotels for work and leisure and this one was picked for its location, price and architectural interest. I don't expect too much for a company that tries to cover all bases, ( good ale, good prices, reasonable food and all welcome) but everything about the stay was spot on. I ate the...

We really like this hotel and we are sure that we will return again in better weather conditions - hopefully ! One minor comment re: our room 118 - the bath surround at the rear could benefit by a grab handle for safety when exiting from the shower/bath.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
