Room comfy and spacious. Note not cleaned during our 4 nights but may be due to COVID. However staff happy to replace towels and replenish teas/coffees etc.
Location excellent for centre of Maidstone, only drawback is lack of parking, but you are warned when booking. Shame most of the spaces are taken up by the seemingly permanent parking of white vans even during working week.
There is free car parking on site on a first come-first-served basis, or (also free) at an adjacent car park. My room was clean and tidy, the bed was comfy and the shower hot. No complaints. My trip was during the recent ‘heatwave/tropical nights’. There was a fan provided in my room. Sadly, it did not work and unfortunately, a replacement was not available until the following night. The chap in charge was most apologetic. Additional tea, milk, sugar etc was available on request and, having been caught in a rainstorm, I was instantly offered fresh towels as I dripped through the doorway! I found the staff to be polite and helpful throughout my stay.
I was born in Maidstone and the purpose of my visit was to retrace some steps from my youth. There have been many changes, but still much of interest to see/visit in this, the County Town Of Kent.
There is an array of bars, pubs and restaurants. I can personally recommend The Gem Of Kent (Turkish) and Ferderico’s (French), both within 5/10 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Further afield, The Tickled Trout, Lower Road, West Farleigh is lovely old pub with a very good restaurant.
The Travelodge ideally suited my purposes for this visit and I can recommend.
A lot of places could accommodate for 1 night but not two consecutive nights. We found that the Travelodge had room and booked it. Hassle free booking and added breakfast on top was less than £180.00. We were placed in a room on the 5th floor which was comfortable but basic. There was no hairdryer but they had them on request. The bed was comfortable and of a good size although the pillows were a bit limp. Some occasional noise from the road but not very often. At the time of year, we expected to hear a lot more Christmas party goers but not at all. Some views were of the town and river others were not so scenic, but I guess that is why we had less noise. The breakfast was well supplied and the cooked food was hot plated with a good selection. We had an evening meal at the hotel which was good also. The best thing about this particular hotel was the staff. I would say they are the greatest asset that this hotel has. Polite, pleasant and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were socially distancing or wearing masks, although some guests did not. Don’t expect frills and niceties, this is a one or two night stopover hotel that does things well. I have stayed in better hotels but not at this price. Most of the guests seemed to be attending Christmas parties and were happy for a bed for the night. Would I stay here again? Yes!
Upon calling the hotel a week in advance to ask if 4 adults were able to stay in a family room and being told by whoever was on reception (clearly who was not trained) at the time (with 2 other people listening to the convo) that it was fine to book as there were enough beds we went and booked a family room online thinking that as we did the right thing and checked it was all sorted. Upon arriving the receptionist was immediately rude saying ‘none of my staff would say that’ despite having details of the phone call recorded on my phone and witnesses to the call. When asking for headoffices number she gives me the wrong place and when asked for the correct number she lies and says she’s listened to the recording of my previous phone call despite our mums having called the actual head office later on and then saying it was impossible she would have called them and heard it as they shut at 5pm. Our 4th friend then calls us to say she isn’t coming as she suddenly has a migraine so we now only have 3 people which is allowed in a family room.
The receptionist (I think it was Jess) then said that the 3 of us were not allowed to stay in the hotel at all for being rude. This is absolutely preposterous! We were not rude at all, we apologised for being annoyed and knew it wasn’t the receptionist fault but she was not helping us at all and was blatantly lying to our faces. To have paid £120 and not be allowed to use the room where the 3 of us had the right to stay in is an absolute joke. We as 3 young females have been stranded on the streets after booking an end of school weekend out. When I started crying she said ‘don’t cry’- how rude!!!
After staying here many times I will NEVER be booking again and highly suggest that none of you do also. The staff are rude, unhelpful and don’t care about the safety of young women, only money.
