The beach is down a long windy unsealed road, locals don't bother to slow down especially if they see a camper van. Good parking and free toilets. A huge white sandy beach, most of it private but you can walk them. Well worth seeing especially...More

Stayed in a beachfront studio, which was very well cared for and felt like a 5 star hotel. Nice touches in the room, towels, shampoo/conditioner, hairdrier. In a camp ground, that was unexpected but oh so welcome. Bed was devine.

Amazing location, kid friendly estuary, fab surf beach for swimming, surfing & fishing. A really well-run holiday park, no 4am drinkers ruining your nights' sleep that we have had elsewhere. Saying that the staff are very professional but relaxed. We stayed in a beachfront unit....More

We will absolutely love to host you again - the birds are amazing and the mixture of land birds and sea birds is where everything comes together.

We have some utensils in the office for you - in the kitchen they do go missing unfortunately. Pakiri is definitely an awesome spot with the white sand beach, estuary, bird life, fishing, surfing and pure relaxing. Thanks for a good review.

Something for thought - as a walker, most walker have their cooking utensils with them, because the holiday park is a real luxury along their way - they get clean hot showers, washing and drying facilities, water, something sweet, something refreshing, dry shelter, wifi, friendly service, getting rid of their waste. Regarding crossing the river, the river is tidal and it is always better to cross on low tide, rather waiste depth during high tide - Te Araroa walkway describe the situation. The river mouth is always on the move and it is an estuary for bird nests. The area is rural and very natural and very careful thought into a structure would be needed for any consent. The beach does not have the strongest mobile signal therefor mobile contact is not the best option - e-mail or text is sometimes better. The 50c showers is merely put into place for our scarcity of water and the soleniods help with taps not being closed, keeps children playing out of showers and let campers not mis-useing the showers. Which will be for your benefit too!! We really enjoy welcoming our walkers, why you felt unwelcome we are not sure about - we normally fined when walkers enter the receiption the first time, they might be cold, wet, sandy feet, apologetic, but after a good refreshing shower, they open up and have more open conversations with us. We have a walker extended her stay to 3 nights with us, because she enjoys walking light without package on the beach and exploring the area and was doing some kayaking. It would be interesting to know why your experience was not pleasant. You enjoyed the sound of the beach, the birds, the location and the snacks at the shop - and we cater with energy bars and snacks specially for the walkers. What made your experience unpleasant? Regarding the water - normal city people are used to Chlorinated water - but all walkers will tell you their taste buds perform much better during the trail than ever in a city - therefor the extra taste of chlorine, but we have rain water drinking fountains in the kitchen, specially for you. We also sell water in the reception so no need to carry water to us - it is a heavy object. We are looking forward to hearing from you how we can enhance the experience of walkers in a very practical way. Kind regards Andre

Why is the location Bay of islands if Bay of Islands is North of Whangarei and Pakiri Beach is way south (120km south) of Whangarei - only 90 km north of Aukland.

It has been fixed in the meantime with a lot of effort - trip advisor thought it was close enough, but i explained Canada is not America and Auckland is not Far north - they got the message.
