Nice intimate and friendly place. Food was good, particularly breakfast. Staff were very efficient and made every effort to make our stay as stress free as possible. Hotel is nicely located just across the river from Reginald's Tower. An easy walk into town if you want, or a short taxi ride.

Spent a lovely week-end away in this hotel. Charming manor house hallway, diningroom and drawing room. Spacious bedroom, a little gloomy due to being on lower floor, but large bed and good, well supplied bathroom. Very friendly reception, waitress and bar staff.

This was a lovely hotel with wonderful people and very good restaurant . But the bed was horrible along with a tiny tv. If it had a good bed and larger tv I would give it a 5 . Sorry but the bed did it in for me.

Enjoyed my stay here with my GF. We had a one night stay with dinner and breakfast package. The dinner was lovely. I went for the fillet steak and it was good quality and perfectly cooked to my taste. My GF is a vegetarian and she enjoyed the risotto main. Breakfast was good quality and plentiful and in a lovely...

I stayed at the Athenaeum house recently for an overnight visit to Waterford with my partner and I must say I was extremely disappointed with my stay. I found the room to be of a very different quality to that presented on the site. It was very dated (smashed lampshade on one side, most furniture worn out, old dated paint...

Located at the end of a short winding lane is this really nice modern hotel with each room named for famous people. The rooms are well-appointed even if the wall-mounted TV is one of the smallest I've seen in a hotel in years. The dining room is in the conservatory at the back and looks out on a well manicured...

Returned to the Athenaeum expecting a wonderful stay, however even though it has only been four months since our last stay, the experience was less than satisfactory. Our twin room was large with two small hard single beds, décor in room and bathroom could only be described as a little shabby, black grouting around tiles and chipped paintwork. The biggest...

A nice place for first night in Ireland. The only negative was a bit of neglected maintenance but it was small stuff. Staff were great. I can't say what is around the hotel, but the location was just what we needed for recovering from jet lag.

The hotel is very nice, room large and comfortable and lots of hot water. It is a little distant from the centre of Waterford but as we only stayed one night this was not a problem. It is situated in a very picturesque area with lovely gardens. We had travelled from Bristol that day and were very tired so decided...

Our stay at Athenaeum was very memorable. The rooms are decorated to a high standard and beds comfortable. I loved the fact that the extension was built in keeping with the style of the old house. Maria at reception is friendly helpful and knowledgeable. The restaurant and bar area is lovely overlooking the garden. The food is amazing... High compliments...

“One side of the hotel faces the car park, the other the garden, would advise choosing a room on the garden side in case of car park noise.”
