At the Royal Marine Hotel, guests are often charmed by the inviting atmosphere, underscored by live piano music and picturesque seafront views. While some travelers find the rooms comfortable and praise the hotel's cleanliness, others report issues with dated decor and noise. The amenities, which include a relaxing spa and beautiful views, receive frequent compliments, though the shower pressure and occasional outdated facilities draw criticism. We have just returned from a two night stay over at this hotel and I must say I was very disappointed. I do understand there are changes due to COVID but a few things could have been done better.
I rang the hotel last week to check if their swimming pool etc was open and was informed that it was all open except for the sauna. What I was not told was that I needed to book a slot, I was also not informed of this on check in. This resulted in us being unable to use the facilities as they were fully booked fir the days we were there.
Also upon check in we were not informed that you had to request for your room to be serviced or clean towels provided so when we arrived back after a day out we had no clean towels.
The main restaurant in the hotel was not open and the only food served was in the bar setting.
We had booked an executive king room, which was very disappointing, it was dull, tired and although quite big I did not see the executive end of it. The hair dryer was like something from the dark ages and the shower was tiny. I would not like to see a standard room.
I do feel a lot more information should be provided to people booking this accommodation or at least at check in.
Not sure I would make a return visit to this hotel although I will return to the area.

We loved everything from start to finish. From the moment of check in, greeted by Monique, we started to just relax. Monique was lovely, got me to sign in using a freshly unwrapped pen to avoid contamination due to Corona virus.
Hand sanitising stations were everywhere. On every floor as you got on and off the lifts. Corridors were lovely and airy. We felt very safe.
We decided to stay an extra night so we spoke to Lukasz at reception. He was more than helpful and explained about getting our room keys reactivated the next day and he arranged for extra toiletries, tea, coffee etc. to be put in our room.
Breakfast was amazing 😍😍 greeted by Danika who was really nice and explained the routine being followed for breakfast. It was a buffet breakfast but with a server so we didn't have to touch anything. We were served by Emma, who too was really nice and wished us a nice day as we were leaving (leaving for a walk after the breakfast we had 😂) we were set up for the day.
The room was lovely and comfortable and to be fair, spotless. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows. Now the bathroom.... NEVER in my life did I see a bath so shiny. It was spotlessly clean. Well done to whoever was responsible for that.
Overall we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back.

First Afternoon and Tea Visit at the Hotel:

Booking was quick and efficient.

However, upon arrival, there was no one to welcome or guide us to our table - which we had reserved in advance. We had to ask reception where it was and they pointed us to the lounge. We were not sure we were in the right area as no tables had been set. Turns out we were in the right area. So afternoon tea was to be served in the reception / lobby lounge where other guests or visitors lounge around. But, there was no one at the lounge to seat us. As the atmosphere was bad (constant buzzing from the sound system) and tremendous noise from the reception and lounge - we sought an alternative venue to take our tea. The best alternative we could find was - Hardy's Bar.

Thanks to Myo, who understood our disappointment and confusion, he offered us to take tea at the Bar.

Unfortunately, the tea and platter tray that was prepared was really really disappointing. Although we are grateful the hotel adapted the food to our dietary requirements, it was honestly not worth the price nor the experience.

In my opinion, given the Hotels history and location, there is so much potential for this hotel to provide a wonderful afternoon tea experience. But, for now, if you are looking for a true 'afternoon tea' experience (quality food, service, ambience, variety of teas, appropriate tableware and setting) then this place will unfortunately not meet your expectations.

My husband and I spent 2 nights here this week and had a wonderful time. Everything was great from check-in with Aoife and all the very helpful and friendly staff, food was great but best of all was our suite, it was the Frank Sinatra suite and was huge with super views over the harbour. The big bed was so comfortable so we slept well.

We felt safe staying here, when we checked in we were given 3 pages of safety measures and were also advised on booking slots for the spa/pool, dinner etc. There war plenty of sanitizer stations in all the public areas, protective screens at reception, about 50% of staff in the bar/bistro wore masks.

The Royal Marine Hotel was recommended to us and we can see why, we'll definitely return.

I booked the royal marine hotel almost 2 weeks ago to stay Saturday 15th of August, the website stated that dinner and a pool session must be pre booked and this can be done through email. I emailed almost a week before my stay and the dinner was booked with no issues but they said the spa staff would be in touch with regards to the pool, we never heard back.

I traveled 1 hour and 30 minutes to get there and I arrived at 3pm on Saturday as check in was at that time, I went up to reception and I was told I wasn’t on the system and I had to show my confirmation email. I was also told the pool was booked out after I asked about it and that I had to “contact the spa staff directly” if I wanted to book it even though we were told they would contact us after our enquiry. Lastly, we were told our room wasn’t ready yet.

1 hour and 30 minutes had past and we still didn’t have a room. There was a large family there who were waiting longer than us and they decided to cancel their booking and leave due to the ridiculous wait. The crowd got bigger and bigger and there were approximately 20 people in the small reception area waiting for their room. One customer had to complain about this as it was dangerous due to COVID. There was a horrible atmosphere throughout the hotel as nobody was getting their rooms.

There were 2 people in wheelchairs that had to wait just as long as I did for their room which is unacceptable, they should’ve been prioritised. We then decided enough time out of our day had been wasted and since this was our only night away, we cancelled our booking and left. When we told reception we were going to cancel they then told us our room was ready. It took for us to say we were leaving to finally get our room! They also offered a discount just so we wouldn’t leave. We rang the Spencer hotel in Dublin City and they went above and beyond for us, they really saved our night away.

We also still had to pay €5 for parking even though we were there for less than 2 hours! I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay here.

Dear Chloe25_K, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to the Royal Marine. It was with regret I read your comments regarding your experience and may I take this opportunity to apologise for the difficulties you experienced, I can but only try to assure you this is not the norm at the Royal Marine. These are challenging times for everyone and we endeavour to operate as efficiently and sympathetically as possible within the guidelines provided by central government. Unfortunately as you noted some guests were waiting for their rooms, however due to the strict procedures for servicing and cleaning of bedrooms recommended to make sure they are safe for our guests use, this does take a little longer than in the past and as our check in time is from 3pm there was an unavoidable delay. After receiving your feedback we are looking into changing our check in and check out procedures and times to try and avoid a similar situation arising for any of our valued future guests. It is unfortunate you decided to stay elsewhere, but thank you for providing your feedback. With thanks, Nigel

I stayed at the Royal Marine in early February for a couple of nights and booked through "Booking.Com".............the double room (without breakfast.......see following) was reasonably priced

The hotel was very busy with the rugby international between Ireland and Wales taking place on the Saturday but it coped well in the circs. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. It was an inner room looking out into a vestibule

I then chose to have breakfast at 16 Euros and this was good value particularly the scrambled egg which was superb ! Excellent Irish pork products on hand too. What was NOT good value was "room service" which, irrespective of what you have, attracts a charge of 6 Euros simply for delivery. This is very outdated and was annoying particularly as the service was slow to put it mildly

It commands a great site overlooking good sea views and is within walking distance of most local amenities

Checked in to Royal Marine on Sunday 4th and checked out on Tuesday 6th of October. After having to cancel our stay cation in Sligo because of the covid level 3 restrictions. From check in to check out of this fine hotel everything went smoothly. The staff went above and beyond to make everyone feel safe while providing excellent service. Sanitizer stations are placed at all key locations around the hotel. We had food in hardys bar on Sunday night followed by a few drinks which we really enjoyed. Monday was my partners birthday so included in our package was a four course dinner which we decided to have on the night. The food was excellent. The waitress Myat was absolutely fantastic. She made you feel so relaxed and was very intentive without being overpowering. We had only booked a classic room but was pleasently surprised by the size. It had everything including bath and a shower. There is WiFi through out the hotel. It's location is excellent. Close to all amenities the harbour is less than 5min walk away and if walking is your thing there are lovely walks to take in. All I can say is we both enjoyed our stay and we will definitely return soon.

This hotel is located overlooking the marina in the immediate vicinity of bars, shops and restaurants in Dunlaoighre and within a five minute walk to the Dart station. The exterior is beautiful, with a large lawn for children to run about out the front. The lobby is impressive, with shining chandeliers, warm marble and two well-running lifts.

Bedrooms are lovely and very clean, with possibly the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in in a hotel. We did not hear noise from other guests in nearby bedrooms. The bathroom was standard and could do with a lick of paint on architraves but had plenty fluffy towels, a deep bath and hot water.

The breakfast was very dear at 16.50 euros/head so we did not avail of it - there are plenty of good cafés nearby and we ate in the Savoury Café every morning. Lunch and dinner were also expensive with a limited menu geared toward gourmet style chipper food and this was reflected in many of the local restaurant menus also, e.g., we did not find any place that served a plain carvery so there's a big opening for someone to fill that gap. A more traditional menu at reasonable prices and a breakfast under 10 euros would keep guests spending within the hotel.

That being said, I can't wait to stay at this hotel again and have already recommended it to family. The staff are lovely, location excellent and you're guaranteed a cosy night's sleep.

I booked the overnight spa package which included 4 course dinner n breaskfast for my mothers birthday. We arrived 12/08/2020. We booked the spa for 3pm n 3.30pm. Check-in was supposed to be at 3pm, we didn't get our room till 3.45pm, no bottled water in the room n only toiletries for one person in the room. We had prebooked dinner for 7pm, the gentleman checked off our room number n showed us to our table n gave us the menu, our server Myat took our food n drink order, we ordered a second drink which never arrived, after 3 courses I was given a bill for almost €80, I explained that dinner was included in the package. She very abruptly said "well I know nothing about this!" She said she'd have to check with reception n then frog marched me n my mother out to reception, all the other diners turned to look at us being marched out as she said it so loud. The concierge on duty confirmed dinner was included n she stormed off. I told him we were humiliated and embarrassed by the whole situation. He offered us a free drink n told Myat to get our drink to which she snapped at the concierge that she had 4 other tables waiting on her n stormed off again. We were not looking for anything free as I had already paid for everything but we were left shocked by our treatment. We eventually got our drink. We went for a walk after just to get out. When we came back we tried to order a drink n were told we would have to order food. We explained we had just had a meal n what had happened n were told we would buy a drink but we'd have to take it to our room. I booked this as my mother always wanted to experience the Royal Marine Hotel, unfortunately it was not the experience she had expected. I wrote the above in the contact section on the hotel website but heard nothing back. So I wrote the above in an email directly to the hotel reception but again have heard nothing over 2 weeks later so I feel I'm left with no other option but to leave this review here. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. Spend your money elsewhere! It's such a shame as we were really looking forward to our stay here but it fell so far below what we had expected from the Royal Marine Hotel.

We were among the first guests after Lockdown. We saw a good deal for two nights and extended our stay to four nights. We were so glad that we took this decision. Overall we enjoyed our time in the Royal Marine. My wife is a keen swimmer and we lost no time in booking the appropriate slots. Sadly the main dining room was closed and we ate in Hardy's bar. Breakfast on this occasion was a la carte and we particularly enjoyed the porridge and black and white pudding. We had dinner on two evening and found the food to be of a very acceptable standard but not exceptional. The shower wasn't working on our first morning. For the first time in many years I attempted to take a bath. Getting into the bath was one thing but getting out was quite something else. We were upgraded to a beautiful room with a wonderful sea view. Unfortunately I still wasn't happy with the new shower albeit that it did work. The staff in the Royal Marine were very friendly and attentive. The one exception being a waitress who was all sweetness and light until we queried our bill for dinner whereupon she became extremely belligerent. When we asked for the menu to prove that we were right she did not have the good grace to offer us an apology. Perhaps that says more about her as an individual than it does about the hotel. The Royal Marine is a lovely hotel with a fascinating history. We would happily stay there again.
