Exactly what I needed for my base to explore Dublin over a weekend. Location was ideal, nice view from the room over the river. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The room itself was ideal but the bathroom could do with updating - there was lots...More
My bedroom was beside reception so I was kept awake by doors opening and closing all night, and by the night porter chatting at 4am. The room was spacious with wifi, tea and coffee and a large tv. The carpet could do with a clean...More
I read some not so nice reviews about this place, and I'm glad to say that my stay here was great. The refurbishment is over, and everything looks cozy and nice. The staff is awesome, the bed is comfy, and zero noise from the pub...More
Had a very pleasant 4 night stay at this hotel. The location is just on the edge of the city center of Dublin, but easy to go there on foot. Within 15 minutes you're at St. Stephens Green. Hotel is situated on a lively street,...More
Recently I booked to stay at the Portobello Hotel for 4 nights as I am currently working in Dublin. From the website on booking.com the hotel appeared to be decent. It was by no means cheap - charging a rate of €80 + per night....More

Hi - I lived in this area for a number of years so therefore know the area very well . - To answer your question - no its not far. You can cross the road and get a bus if you want or if you walk down about 10 minutes it brings you to Stephens Green (a lovely city centre park) and Grafton Street which is a lovely shopping area . A few more minutes walk (passing Trinity College) and you reach Temple Bar which is good for nightlife. A further few minutes and you reach O'Connell street (Henry street is off this and is also good for shopping) . Just ask the receptionist to point you in the right direction. Hopes this helps (ps the opposite direction from hotel brings you to a nice little area called Rathmines - it has some nice places to eat and also some good pubs. - Its only about 3 minutes walk from this hotel - again ask to be pointed in the right direction. Another tip - if you are arriving in Dublin airport - don't get a taxi to Portobello as it will be very expensive Instead go to tourist information desk and they will tell you where to buy bus tickets in airport and which bus to get outside airport to get you here. You will have to get 2 busses but it really is very easy and easy on your pocket too (you can also buy a return bus ticket to get you back to airport) Hope you have a lovely time
