We had two rooms at the Portobello. I really didn't know what to expect when we arrived. The man at the front desk was one of the friendliest people I've ever met. He did everything he could to help us with any questions or concerns...More
This place is a shameful hellhole. I turned up with my wife (both in our 50's) to be told by a bald headed bouncer full of roid rage that we couldn't get in. We actually thought he was joking but his agressive demeanour towards a...More
The hotel is Perfectly located, the room was big and with a beautiful view on the canal. Walking distance from the city centre and well connected by public transport. Sometime can be a bit noisy due to the pub downstairs.
This is a busy area, and the hotel is right next to a restaurant/bar with outdoor seating. If you are a light sleeper, I'd suggest not staying on the canal or street side. No air conditioning, so depending on season, you may need an open...More
If you are only looking for a place to sleep in central Dublin, and have no other expectations than a bed and a shower, this is ok. The hotel pics are deceiving, and do not represent reality.
We changed our room twice and I can...More

Hi - I lived in this area for a number of years so therefore know the area very well . - To answer your question - no its not far. You can cross the road and get a bus if you want or if you walk down about 10 minutes it brings you to Stephens Green (a lovely city centre park) and Grafton Street which is a lovely shopping area . A few more minutes walk (passing Trinity College) and you reach Temple Bar which is good for nightlife. A further few minutes and you reach O'Connell street (Henry street is off this and is also good for shopping) . Just ask the receptionist to point you in the right direction. Hopes this helps (ps the opposite direction from hotel brings you to a nice little area called Rathmines - it has some nice places to eat and also some good pubs. - Its only about 3 minutes walk from this hotel - again ask to be pointed in the right direction. Another tip - if you are arriving in Dublin airport - don't get a taxi to Portobello as it will be very expensive Instead go to tourist information desk and they will tell you where to buy bus tickets in airport and which bus to get outside airport to get you here. You will have to get 2 busses but it really is very easy and easy on your pocket too (you can also buy a return bus ticket to get you back to airport) Hope you have a lovely time
