Detailed Reviews
This was my second visit to this hotel and it was just as good as the first one.
Rooms are lovely and warm, very clean and beds are very comfortable. Although situated on a main road, the hotel is laid back and there is no traffic noise to interfere with sleep.
Breakfast is excellent, with fruit juice, as much toast as you like, tea or coffee and a nice choice of cereals.
Travelled with my daughter (first visit) who was very impressed with everything about the hotel.
As an example of how helpful the owners and staff are: we got the time of breakfast wrong on the Saturday and didn't arrive until it was over, but they were still willing to set a table and serve us.
All in all great value for money, and I shall definitely return.

Stayed here for two nights recently. First night was good - bed comfortable & quiet in hotel. Bathroom adequate - clean & tidy. Breakfast nice the next morning, I'm a vegetarian & wasn't really catered for but was quite happy with having the non meat items off the full breakfast offered to guests. Plenty of toast and juice/tea/coffee offered. No decaff tea available so bring your own if you drink it!
Second night not as good. The other family we were on holiday with were in room 9 which was across the corridor from the bar and the noise in the early evening was very loud. So if you are wanting a quiet night - ask for rooms at the back of the hotel away from the bar. There were other people staying in the hotel stomping up & down the corridors at 1am shouting & singing too. Not the hotels fault but still not ideal!
Overall a nice stay, good value for money!

Initial reaction on entering the hotel is to turn around and leave. No reception area, just a dingy hallway with a frosted glass door to one side. No sign advising how to check in, but a push button beside the door.
After pushing this button a man appeared and showed me into the bar to check in.
I was shown to my room along a passage and through a door marked "PRIVATE" Staff Only.
Initial impressions of the room were favourable. Freshly decorated, modern coordinated bed covers and drapes. Twin room very small. Television unable to receive many channels as the picture broke up due to poor signal. Makeshift wardrobe made of two pieces of furniture board.
DIY is obviously not a strong point of the owners.
En-suite - grim. Vinyl flooring laid direct onto concrete floor. Hairs in shower. Black fungus on tiles. Cobweb hanging from window. No drapes. Tiny radiator.
Awakened in the morning to find room freezing cold, radiator had just the slightest suggestion of heat in it. Bathroom was even colder. Shower pressure was good, but floor was freezing cold.
Decided not to indulge in the included breakfast.
This could be fairly decent establishment if a little bit of updating and cleaning was carried out.
It appears to be frequented by a lot of tradesman judging by the number of vans parked in the car park.

Room was dirty had to request the sheets and towels changed , the manager was the absolute worst I have ever encountered, he's rude arrogant and I would say slightly aggressive in his manor , room vastly over priced and don't get me started on poor quality of the drink, please please stay literally anywhere else in Ayr , this place is a shambles , no idea how this guy is running a hotel

However very clean beds and towels. Have to have breakfast before 9.30 on a sunday morning. Waiter looked as if he couldn,t wait to get us out.People also came for breakfast from two bed and breakfasts opposite the hotel.

Booked an en-suite for the three days we were up to see the Kilmarnock game. For £60 per nite B & B I did n't expect the earth but did expect more than the tiniest of rooms with just one chair and not so much as a wardrobe or cupboard in sight, there was n't room for iether to be fair.
In such a small room the TV flat screen was positioned so high on the wall as to be uncomfortable to watch.
Being disabled I specified a bath requirement on booking but we had a wc/shower which was ample in size to have taken a bath but there was not even a shelf to be had in the showere room.
The only fixtures were the solitary towel rail and the toilet roll holder.
The Breakfast on offer was ample but I was disapointed by the lack of tomatoes or mushrooms.
The place was advertised at £48 P double PN on the internet but when I booked by phone was told this did not include breakfast.
All in all no better than a 5/10 experience and that is being generous. Shop around !

Very friendly and helpful owners, warm welcome nothing was too much trouble. Room was large and very clean with great facilities everything you could ask for including free super fast wifi.. The location is perfect for exploring the Ayrshire coast. The breakfast was cooked to order and they catered for my niece who is a vegetarian
Would definitely stay again and would highly recommend this place..

The St. Andrews Hotel is a finely run B&B with attached bar w/ food. Adequately clean, the rooms are sufficient for touring golfers. Our room was upstairs with three single beds. The bath room was medium sized, though with plenty of hot water for two. Rated 2-stars by the Scottish Tourist Board, I initially found our hosts distant, but quickly learned they were reasonable and prudent over our three night stay. They have modified their rules to not have unruly guests. They accommodated our heating issues and breakfast needs due to golf tee times and travel. They have ample parking off street on the high road. While Ayr goes through a tough economic time, the St. Andrews Hotel is a good stopping point, as the staff makes it better than a 2-star place.
