Beautiful approach to this equally beautiful old mansion style hotel. Warm welcome from reception staff and luxurious suite appointed for our overnight stay. Each member of staff we met were super attentive, receptive to our needs, and keen to make our stay extra special. Restaurant served tasty freshly cooked foods, some with a local connection. Ryan was so very kind and could not have done more to enhance our restaurant experience. Heartwarming to stay in this period property which is maintained and treated with great respect from all the staff, both indoors and outdoors. The wonderful views of the racecourse merely enhance the out door features, and of course, on race days, a good at the races is only a few steps away. Superb.

I stayed at this wonderful Hotel from the 24th of December until the 27th of December. I'm paraplegic and I stayed in a wheelchair accessible room on the first floor, the lift was just round the corner from my bedroom . The room was very spacious and had a lovely wet floor shower room, the food was excellent and all the staff were all fabulous. The head of housekeeping, Caroline and her supervisor, Susie ,were amazing and even helped me with my care. My family were welcomed into the hotel with open arms. I would give the hotel five stars and I plan to go back in April when it is Ladies Day at the Races with my daughter and granddaughter. I would recommend this fabulous hotel to everybody, and I owe them my gratitude and respect.

Staff are brilliant- extremely attentive and friendly.
Food is fantastic and drinks reasonably priced.
We slept wonderfully in our room. It was immaculately clean, quiet and also was stocked up with lots of fluffy towels, dressing gowns and slippers. Bed and pillows very comfy! Really nice touch that they leave a bottle of water in your room - very helpful especially after a few drinks!
The buffet breakfast was fantastic. Great selection of food, brilliant haggis. The perfect hangover cure!
We will certainly be back!

We stayed here after my fiancé won a competition at his work’s night out last year.
The prize was a 3 course dinner, bed and breakfast which we were both looking forward to.
We stayed in a courtyard room which was a big room but old and needing some upgrading. We looked right onto the car park which was an issue in the morning because it was a roller blind and curtain so when I needed light in the room (lighting was shocking) I couldn’t open the blind because everyone would see in. I didn’t like this at all. I also couldn’t believe that there were no toiletries. Rather than providing hot chocolate sachets, it would be beneficial to have toiletries. For a supposed 4 star hotel I think that was unacceptable. The pillows weren’t good and neither of us had a good sleep either because the bed wasn’t comfy.
Dinner was ok. My fiancé enjoyed his haggis Bon Bons and I thought my tempura was quite nice but both dishes required salt. I had to send my steak back because it was burnt on one side giving a horrendous charcoal / burnt flavour. They did change this and provided a free glass of red wine to apologise - but it wasn’t the red wine I had been drinking so it wasn’t as enjoyable. The ‘hand cut chips’ were huge potato wedges which I believe should be specified because there’s a big difference. It was like eating a quarter of a potato at a time. The crispier wedges were nice but the bigger ones were pale and hard in the middle which would be rectified if they were actually chips. The tomato was tasteless. Dessert was the saving grace because the sticky toffee pudding and the apple and peach crumble were both delicious. The amount of time we waited for the starters was ridiculous. There were only 2 other tables in and another table were offered complimentary drinks due to their wait as well. We sat down for 5.55pm and didn’t get our starter until 6.35pm. Due to the steak issue, we didn’t get our desserts until 8pm.
Breakfast was a shambles. The potato scones were like they had been left out on a shelf, the eggs had no flavour what so ever and once again tomatoes were tasteless. The pancakes were soaked in oil so neither of us ate them either. Bacon was ok but I left hungry after only eating toast and a small bit of the food. If I had paid for it we would’ve asked for a refund. Not only that, after breakfast we both felt ill later on and both had upset stomachs. Very poor quality food.
We will not be back and I have removed the hotel from my recommendations on my wedding website for my wedding guests when we are getting married in Ayr next year because you will get a much better stay at the local premier inn.
The staff were nice which was the only other positive apart from the desserts.
We will not be back and definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

Good Morning JoannaRB96, Thank-you for taking the time to write a review from your recent experience at Western House Hotel, and naturally I am disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We have refillable toiletries in the bathroom at the shower/baths and also at the sinks for you to use and we have recently replaced all our pillows & mattresses with brand new ones. I am aware there was a service issue with service in the restaurant on the night you dined with us which unfortunately resulted in a sub-standard experience, which is certainly not the standard we uphold here at Western House Hotel. Please take a look at all the other fantastic reviews we have received. Our Head Chef only uses the best ingredients, which we try and locally source where possible. Hopefully we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Western House Hotel in the near future. Kind Regards, Zac Warr

Beautiful hotel and surroundings, we stayed in a twin room within the court yard building. The room was spacious and spotless. Hotel staff were lovely from booking in/checkout, breakfast and sunset. Buffet breakfast is worth it, plenty of choice and takeaway cups available for hot drinks. Very cosy hotel, plenty of seating areas to relax and enjoy a drink in the lounge.

We have stayed for an overnight at the western house hotel for a number of years and are always find it to be of 5 star quality. Courtyard Rooms are great value for the price you pay on a race day for the experience and the proximity to the racecourse. Rooms are always immaculately presented and well appointed with everything you need. Jockey Club restaurant is always of the highest quality food around, WOW this time we honestly couldn’t have had a better meal, it is nice to see even with all increases in price and pressures they have not cut back, daily changing Amuse Bouche to taste before starters, fresh warm bread COMPLIMENTRY, no jiggly little surcharges like in most others now!!, My fillet steak was cooked to absolute perfection and the young gent and lady serving us were so polite and professional (Ryan and Danielle I think). Retired to the bar after our meal to enjoy a few drinks and these were made for us with some good banter from the barman (can’t remember his name as a few too many!!!!) and the bar was very busy on night 1 as racing was on but they kept us well looked after. Breakfast as always is fantastic lovely to see Catherine is still there and keeping everybody well looked after in the morning, we had a buffet breakfast at the weekend which was nice with dishes made freshly from the kitchen if ordered from the menu and just plated the next 2 days which was nice. Buffet has a great selection . Well done again western house and we shall return again soon and not leave it so long this time!

Great hotel with lovely staff and such a nice setting. Can’t highlight just one member of staff as everyone we encountered was helpful and friendly.
We loved sitting in the lobby and having a drink (lots to choose from, including cocktails and beer. Our stay included a room in the Main Building, Breakfast, Afternoon Tea and a summer cocktail.
We had an accessible room, as I am a wheelchair user. It was very good with lots of space to move around and the bathroom was well set up with grab rails and a seat in the shower. The decor is classic but new, the only improvement could be more sockets.
The included breakfast was a buffet and also a menu that you could order from. The buffet food was nice but not always very warm and the eggs were much better ordered fresh.
We, unfortunately, didn't get to enjoy the afternoon tea, as we arrived late. But we did have dinner in The Jockey Club Restaurant. It’s a small quaint room at the back of the hotel, with windows that look onto the racecourse. Our servers were lovely and really hyped up the food. We ordered starters and mains, plus got an amuse bouche. Would highly recommend eating here.
I can’t recommend it here enough, Best place to stay in Ayr!

Booked a night here for the beginning of our honeymoon. We got a room in the courtyard (if your room is here check the pictures as it’s nothing like the main hotel). It was a very basic room and smelt a little musty. A bit underwhelming for the price to be honest.
The main issue was in the morning when we went to use the shower. The water was running freezing cold and we couldn’t get hot water from the taps either. We called reception and they sent someone to take a look. They couldn’t fix it so we ended up running cold baths and trying to heat them up with water from the room’s kettle. Not very relaxing!
What surprised me was that the hotel made no effort to let us use a room with hot water for the morning, or offer us any discounts etc. When I pay £150 for a very basic room, I expect warm water to shower and if this isn’t provided, I’d expect a discount.

This hotel is in reality two hotels. The main hotel building which is shown in the promotional pictures and looks and feels every part a 4 star hotel. Then there is the Annex which is a separate building, closer to the main road and the car park. It looks nothing like the main building, it is connected via an external path. it looks more like a 2 star hotel Travelodge type hotel.
We stayed in the Annex and at £215 per night for a twin room including breakfast it was overprice by around £75.
The weekend we stayed, there was a wedding taking place on the Friday and another on the Saturday. This limited access to the hotels facilities, unless you feel comfortable mingling with wedding guest in the main hotel areas which were being utilised as part of the reception.
On the upside the room was comfortable and clean. Beds and bedding were fine and the room was of a good size.
Some maintenance was overdue in the bathroom, but otherwise okay. Tea & coffee making facilities don’t reach the power socket unless you place them on the floor.
Good to see and use EV chargers in the car park which worked well and were free to use.
Reception and hotel staff were pleasant and quick to respond.
Breakfast was well done and takes place in the main building.
Unlikely to stay here again.

Good Morning GranCanFan, Thank-you for taking the opportunity to write a review from your recent stay with us at Western House Hotel, Naturally I am disappointed with the 2-star review. Our room rates are set according to demand in the local area, at the time you stayed there would have been an increase due to the COP26 Event taking place in Glasgow, we strive to ensure we offer value for money and our rate would have been competitive at the time. We do have events taking place in the hotel throughout the year, but we value every guest equally as you have mentioned our team were pleasant and quick to respond, should you have required anything to assist they would have happily obliged. I do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future. Kind Regards, Zac Warr

So disappointing. I actually can’t believe what we experienced in the restaurant. Lovely waiting staff who were clearly embarrassed to advise that at 7.30 on a Monday evening a lot of the options were unavailable. Ordered from what we were told was available only to be told that was also unavailable. Starter was ok but bland and nothing to write home about. Ordered chicken and pork belly for mains. Chicken was lovely according to my partner but they served me beef instead of pork. I sent it back and the waiter actually came back with the same dish and Embarrassedly asked if I could just accept it. Decided I wanted what I had ordered only to get the same reheated dish back again with the beef scraped off and a bit of pork placed in the middle. Definitely not 4 stars as far as the restaurant was concerned although the hotel and other staff were lovely. Made a complaint when checking out. Still waiting on a response. I don’t think we will be back. Such a shame because the hotel is lovely but our break was ruined by the terrible restaurant experience.

I’m not sure to be honest ....... but if you are attending a wedding on your arrival day I’m sure they could organise it the following day. The hotel are so accommodating so I couldn’t see it being a problem. Either give them a call or speak to reception when you check in. Sorry I could not be be of more help......
