Detailed Reviews
Called with my family last week whilst on holiday and took them up on the Governments offer of a 50% reduction on food and we weren't dissapointed. On arrival we were met and shown to our table, then a young lady took our drinks order followed by our food order. When the food arrived we were completely blown away with the quality, I had their home made steak pie as my main course and I've got to say that it was one of the best steak pies that I've ever had in my life. We were a party of four adults and one child and we all had three courses and the bill was just under £47. Well done to management and staff that looked after us on the night, we will certainly look to eat there again in the future, even without the discount.

The Chestnuts has always been one of my favourite dining venues. Food is always excellent and good value for money. Add together friendly staff and a classic ambience and you have a winning combination. With sit in places just re-opening post lockdown I think many like myself are feeling a bit apprehensive about returning to eating out. So when the Chestnuts opened its doors to table service indoors I had to give it a try to see. Our family was met with friendly staff and it was clear that all health protocols had been well thought out without putting any burden or awkwardness onto the customer. I felt safe and to be honest pretty much as I felt on any previous visit. The food was excellent as always with great attentive, but not over the top service. First class. Value for money was very good too. If you are worried about returning to eating out, don’t be. Get a booking made at the Chestnuts, you won’t be disappointed!

First ever visit to Chestnuts with my wife for a meal while on a visit to Ayr & certainly won't be our last.
Totally enjoyed our meals, served up by the waiting staff who really made you feel comfortable & welcomed you as first-time visitors..... really commendable!
Restaurant was spotless, extensive dining menu to choose from where you were really spoiled for choice, & as I said previously..... great service!
Also noted that they have a take-away service which must be a godsend of a treat if you are on a self-catering break by the sea.

This is a small three star hotel which is a high performer. Small, the reception area is really cramped. If one is checking in there is barely room for another to pass behind
That apart it is a well run place. The room I had was large and airy. The bathroom has clearly undergone refurbishment. The shower was up a little step but was functionally absolutely great.
Breakfast is waitress service except for cereal and juices. The smoked haddock and two poached eggs is the highlight on the menu. I had them on both the mornings I was there. That breakfast service starts at 7 am - a bit late if you’ve got to be somewhere early. That makes for a languid beginning of the day.

This is not the first time we have stayed in Chestnuts and it will not be our last. The location is perfect for any holiday in Burns Country or for people who wish to tackle the challenges of the many superb Ayrshire golf courses.
The hotel is a modest size family business, with a first rate restaurant. We ate there each night of our four night stay and were certainly not disappointed by any of the dishes. However, the haggis tower deserves special mention as it is a real treat!
The hospitality we received (on each of our visits) has been a real pleasure. It must be second to none for friendliness. It is little wonder the welcoming public bar is popular, and also serves delicious meals.
An additional bonus was the complimentary room upgrade, it was comfortable, clean, spacious and well appointed. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Chestnuts for a stay or for a relaxing meal.

Lunch menu was extensive and had a good number of dishes available as half portion for smaller appetites. Food and service were both excellent. Staff were competent and reassuring in these challenging times. We will definitely return here on our next trip to ayr. Highly recommended Jamie Mary and

We were here for my birthday lunch on Monday and we were not disappointed. We experienced great service and ordered steak pie x2 ,the food was exceptional. It was the steak pie that kept giving. Under the perfectly cooked pastry was melt in the mouth steak chunks with root vegetables on a bed of mash potatoes. This came with a portion of chips. For the dessert we had the cheesecake of the day. Pineapple and mango. Wow this was beautiful and served with local ice cream. We will definitely be back it’s worth the hour and a half drive....

We ordered an evening meal for two to celebrate a birthday from the wide and varied menu. The food was ready for collection at the agreed time. The quality was excellent and well presented. We really enjoyed it and will certainly be ordering more meals soon!!
Ps Many thanks Grant for the birthday gift, much appreciated.

It’s about 1.5 - 2 miles from Burns Cottage. Pleasant walk.
