We stayed here as a family with our dog on our first visit to Inverness whilst our son was playing rugby. The hotel was smashing - the room were exceptionally clean, spacious with a lovely bathroom containing Elemis products. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The bar was lovely. My son enjoyed the freshly squeezed orange juice (we have since bought a juicer). The breakfast was exceptional. Thank you.

The hotel is immaculate, very clean and beautifully decorated. As we walked into our room we entered a large dressing area, the bathroom ,with separate bath and shower, which is off that area. 5 steps up and you go into a large room with a sitting area (settee with a wall fire. The latter being like a glass screen in the wall). Then further along is the bedroom area with desk, television, fridge (filled) and large bed. We had the best night's sleep in months, it was so comfortable. There is a coffee machine and kettle too. We ate in the hotel after an afternoon of exploring Inverness. The food was exceptional! 2 courses with 3 glasses of wine £99. Gabriel described it as fine dining and it certainly was. Breakfast's choice was very good too. Gabriel and his staff are all very friendly and their attention to detail is second to none. From there to the town is a 10 - 15 minute walk.

We would have absolutely no hesitation in staying there again and would definitely recommend them.

Small hotel in a good location a short stroll away from the centre of town.

Service was generally good, but some small touches that you would normally expect at over £300 per night were missing (no welcome drink, no complimentary fruit or even biscuits in the room, no replacement of tissue papers).

Our room was nice enough with a large and comfortable bed and full size bath and shower. The Wi-Fi was quite poor however, and we found a couple of discarded sweet wrappers under the bed.

Breakfast was a highlight, with the Arnold Bennett omelette being very rich and tasty. The smoked salmon was excellent too. It’s eerily quiet in the dining room resulting in guests whispering to each other. Perhaps some background music might help.

Overall, we enjoyed our brief stay at this hotel but with a few small tweaks it could be even more memorable.

Booked this as a surprise night away for myself and the wife.

We had heard it’s the place to be in Inverness but quite expensive, We paid £315 for Room and breakfast

On arrival we were greeted by the the general manager David who was very pleasant and very well mannered he gave us a very detailed speech including how to use the facilities in the room.

Before going any further The staff in the hotel are all very well mannered and polite just a shame the rest of the hotel is a let down

1: On getting to Room 10 (which is the flagship room)we found the door very hard to open as if swollen up with dampness, found it difficult to close quietly and smoothly.

2: The bathroom was very bright but did smell of slight dampness, we also found pubic hairs on the bath (picture attached)

3. The bed very big and comfortable mattress but the frame is dated and squeaky. Under the bed was where it gets worse. We found a Rentokil mouse trap with mouse droppings I find this f*****g disgusting worse than the bathroom pubic hairs ( picture attached)

4. The TV, when putting the tv on it went straight to what can only be presumed as the last guests history and searching for “Lesbian porn” wasn’t what we were expecting

5. The outside area, the hot tub was set to 41 degree which having a tub at home is very warm and not entirely comfortable for sitting in. There was a sauna outside also BUT we were let down yet again it was more of a igloo than sauna as it didn’t work

6. Breakfast can’t complain about this it was fantastic and very tasty the waitress was very well mannered and polite

When checking out we were not asked how our stay was rather a put your key there and off you go like we were a hindrance to them

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience when visiting Rocpool Reserve. Before wanting to post my reply, you will be aware that I have tried to contact you personally on three occasions now and left voicemails to my un-answered calls. I would be delighted to discuss all of the points brought up, so please feel free to contact me at a time suitable to you, should you wish. I have left my direct phone number on the voicemails and my email address is below. I am disappointed by some of the points you have brought to my attention. Please let me begin by giving my sincere apologies for some of these short comings and any services that have fallen below our usually high standards. In part, some of your review is most useful to me and will be used to assess the services we are providing. Although I am extremely grateful for you bringing a few points that have been below our standards to my attention, this is where your “brutally honest review” falls short of being fully factual and is instead damaging to a well accomplished Hotel and Restaurant through your inaccuracies. I wish to bring transparency for the Trip Advisor community on a few of your comments. Firstly, if I can point out that we do not nor do we need mouse traps in any of our bedrooms. What you have seen is a unit to advise against the onset of bed bugs. It is very easy to contract an outbreak of bed bugs from guests and their prior visits elsewhere and it not even be known. This unit acts as a precautionary tool to advise upon any issue in the early stages in order we can act swiftly to resolve. Thankfully to date, they have not been triggered but remain to be a useful tool in each of our rooms. I can state that we have an exemplary record with regards to pest prevention throughout the entire property and take this element of health and safety very seriously indeed. I have taken the time to inspect the temperature of the hot tub per your concerns as well as the Sauna you also found issue with. When switched on, the sauna was working wonderfully and I managed a peak temperature of 51.2°C with in approximately 20-25 minutes. Your comment concerning the temperature of the hot tub being 41°C concerned me, as we aim for an optimal of between 37°C and 39°C. When checking the unit, it was set to 39°C. When attempting to set it higher, it allowed me to set 40°C but no higher for safety reasons. With a number of your concerns, whether it be valid points, simple assistance needed to resolve any uncertainties or answer any queries, we would have been delighted to have given aid at the point of your stay had we been given the opportunity, and I feel from this you would have been able to supply the Trip Advisor community a more fair and fully accurate review rather than what we have. I made you aware at check in that I was at your full disposal for any help you may require, as well as my colleague taking the time to speak with you upon your return from your afternoon out, but no comments or ask for assistance was made. I again was at your disposal the next morning and recall asking if you had a “nice evening and slept well”. You were complimentary at this point as well at check-out and I enjoyed our brief discussion regarding your day ahead. Please let me take this opportunity to thank you for your kind and generous custom, as well as your positive comments regarding my check in process, your breakfast and service given at this point. I remain at your disposal should you wish to discuss further. Kind Regards, David Robertson, General Manager. gm@rocpool.com

Expecting a Roux restaurant we booked for two nights only to find the Roux relationship ended last January even though one of our confirmation emails and the deposit receipt claimed it was still in place! The rooms are very much as per the early 00s (red/brown colour scheme and DVD players). We had a "Decadent" room, expecting a roll top bath as per the photos only to be told they only had one like that and the term "Decadent" referred to the size of the room. Our room was large but it was one large corridor. We had a dressing area, but it was immediately behind the door. We had a narrow sitting area, but it couldn't be used as it joined the dressing area/door up a flight of stairs to the bed area. The bed was emperor size but was next to a non-double glazed window looking out onto the street on one of the back roads into Inverness. Back in the day when this was a Michelin starred destination hotel the false advertising and quirks were probably overlooked but it can't anymore.
As for the restaurant, the food was an impersonation of Michelin quality food but frequently missed the boat as in I would remark on the food to my wife but she would claim it tasted the opposite! We did the naff thing of tasting each others dish to find we were both right as the ingredient mix and seasoning was random to say the least! So underwhelmed were we that we skipped dinner in the restaurant on our second night and ate in the "the most happening bar in Inverness where reservations are recommended". Unsurprisingly we were the only people in the Bar all night but the bar menu was the best gastro pub food we had ever had in Scotland!
So in summary an overpriced hotel that's just within the law on using its past glories to advertise the current guise of the hotel, with a deluded head chef with poor quality control but at least one very talented sous chefs waiting to take over.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. All our bedrooms are individual with no two being the same. If there is a particular room any guest would like to stay in, then we will always do our best to accommodate. My apologies over the ambiguity as to whether our restaurant was a 'Roux Restaurant', I will investigate this matter personally. I was very surprised to read your comments about your experience in our restaurant. We are very proud of our Chef and what he is able to produce, this is backed up by the excellent feedback we generally receive from our guests. It seems that perhaps this was not to your particular taste. I was happy, however, to read that you thoroughly enjoyed your meal in our R-Bar, where our Chef is also responsible for all meals served. Kind Regards Daniel Shaw General Manager

The hotel is displaying 2007 Awards, that more or less says it all. Very average and very expensive for what was delivered. Wall paper peeling off room walls, small packets of biscuits chargeable, room clean - but just nothing special. Our room happened to be next to the washing up/laundry area and also thus noisy. The service was again okay, but nothing special and food for both dinner and breakfast was nothing to write home about - not bad, but not to the expectation of what this hotel would claim. Desperately needs money spent on it, big disappointment at the end of a Scottish vacation where we did experience some amazing Scottish hospitality. Rocpool must do better.

This hotel has a great reputation and a price tag to match, but I’m not sure it is quite worth the money. The staff are great and very welcoming and the food was absolutely first class. My wife and I were treated for the first time to an omelette Arnold Bennett for breakfast and believe me it was worth it. Absolutely delicious. My recommendation would be research your room carefully. Several of them are in what is like the basement. We had a great view of our exhaust pipe from the window so you might want to pay a bit more for a room above ground level. The room was also showing its age. I’m sure all hotels are struggling due to been shut for so long but our room hadn’t seen any updates since well before C19 and therefore I question the high prices on a hotel which seems to be trading on reputation. There are better, and better value hotels in Inverness I would go to instead.

We booked the ‘Extra Decadent Room’ at a cost of $797 Australian, breakfast included. This meant it had a verandah with a hot tub on it. The staff were so lovely and friendly. Exceptional. My husband said the omelette he had for breakfast was the best he has ever had. I do have concerns for people with mobility issues as they will find it difficult to get in and out of the shower (as it is in the bath and a big step down). Also, the internet did not work in our and this made it difficult to access emails about our trip home etc., and the air conditioner did not work. We were recommended this hotel and we can see how it has immense charm and service.

The Rocpool is an exquisite hotel. We stayed here for a couple of nights in late December, and had a room with a hot tub on the terrace. This might not be for everyone, but lying in a hot tub, just watching the sky turn dark and thinking about nothing is a great re-set switch for the brain.

All staff in the Rocpool are really attentive and professional, and nothing was too much trouble. They make you feel special and because it's so small, there's no atmosphere of being rushed. The place is scrupulously clean.

Thank you Daniel, and I hope that you and all the team have a happy new year.

We visited Inverness to start our North 500 holiday. The hotel is advertised as “Inverness only 5 star hotel” and as a luxury boutique, unfortunately it is neither. Our room was £285 B&B and we were very disappointed. The furnishings, decor and general appearance of hotel is dated and tired. Our room at very best was 4 star and potentially 3! Bed not comfortable, window facing straight on to a main road, sink cracked, I could go on. We also had dinner in the restaurant which was ok but again over priced for what it was, £175 for 2 in Inverness is expensive. Breakfast again was ok but I asked for an omelette which was drowned in butter, I assumed used to cook the mushrooms. Why didn’t I complain, well the staff were lovely and made us feel very welcomed it’s just a shame the hotel doesn’t reflect the service they provide. So in summary Dinner B&B was nearly £500 which was not value for money! So either drop the prices or refurbish the hotel! You aren’t 5 star!

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with me and the Trip Advisor community. I am saddened that we have fallen short of your expectations and standards. For this, please accept my sincere apologies. I am equally disappointed with your feedback on dinner and breakfast, as this is an element we pride ourselves on. Looking back on your dinner total, a total spend of £92 was spent on food with the remaining being for bar items. For canapes, a 3 course meal each and petit fours, I find this cost very much in touch with other similar establishments in Inverness. Regarding your lovely comments towards the staff and service, please let me take this opportunity to thank you for this feedback, as similar to the food element, we do pride ourselves on the service provided. Wishing you the best of health and kind regards, David Robertson, General Manager.
