Location wise, the hotel is in a perfect spot. That's one of the few positives I experienced. On arrival, the receptionist was polite and friendly and dealt with us accordingly. We made our way to the room which was on the 3rd floor,it was clear to see just walking the short distance to the lift from reception that the building is very tired and requires significant investment. The room was a huge disappointment, the window was old, leaking and done virtually nothing to combat street noise outside. It was also furnished with a healthy amount of dampness spores along its peripheral edges. The room was cold on arrival as the storage heater which was covered with dust and cobwebs was switched off, once switched on the aroma of burnt dust was blatantly obvious to the nostrils. The decor was in a terrible state with wallpaper hanging of the wall in places, stains and damage to the wall surfaces were clearly obvious. The bathroom was equally as much a disappointment with skid marks inside the toilet bowl left to greet me along with a shower curtain covered in mould and attached to the rail above with what seemed like hope rather than curtain rings. The floor was untidy and a few suspicious looking stains were present round the bottom of the toilet bowl, the cold water tap also produced more warm water than cold. I was also greeted with a beetle scurrying across the tired and worn carpet one morning. The room was not touched by cleaners during my five night stay and the teas/coffees were not replenished even after requesting they were, I suspect staffing levels are low and contributed to this issue. The overall room experience was disappointing. Breakfast was OK,no complaints there as we were offered a comprehensive range of foods to suit or needs. The bar area was closed more than it was open so we opted to have a drink elsewhere outwith the hotel. The staff who we did see were polite, courteous and welcoming but they did appear to be low in numbers. Overall it was not a great experience and I personally would not use it again, hopefully it gets the investment it requires to take it to the level it has the potential to achieve.

Avoid at all costs! This hotel is a health hazard filthy and run down. The food was lukewarm and inedible. Breakfast was awful. The room was cold with single glazing. There was mould on the windows, shower curtain, ceiling and floor. Decor was very bad in need of attention. No hot water when we went for showers. A few staff members were okay but the rest seemed uninterested, the atmosphere was horrible. We went for a new year weekend but it was a total disaster worse than faulty towers ! Never again! We got a partial refund but this didn't cover the discomfort and terrible conditions we suffered. Compass hospitality deal with this ! This place should be condemned.

We booked a two night stay with family who booked separately. We went to our room after checking in and found that it had not been serviced for new guests. There was dried snot on a pillow, numerous pubic hairs on the sheets, crumbs on the furniture and the toilet and shower had not been cleaned. I took the pillow down to reception and was advised that housekeeping would sort the room. We accepted this as a possible oversight and agreed to come back an hour later. When we did the bed linen had been changed but nothing else had been done. An assistant manager appeared and told us he would personally supervise. We entered the room a third time and found the toilet still had not been cleaned (urine stains on the bowl) and the crumbs had not been removed. At this point we refused to accept the room and moved to the hotel next door. My daughter who had booked separately was given an immediate refund. We had booked through Wotif (Expedia) and were advised to contact them for a refund. After several months of emails we had neither received a refund or an apology. Judging by recent Tripadvisor reviews this is a problematic property. In my opinion: do not go to this property. The extremely poor hygiene is of serious concern particularly during these COVID times. The attached photos were taken after our third entry to the room (after the manager had said he would personally supervise the room preparation.

We stayed here with friends for a couple of nights and noticed the difference in the hotel as soon as we arrived. We were given a wonderful room, which was clean, overlooking the River Ness and Inverness Castle amazing views. Unfortunately there was no heating in the room and it was freezing. We did get a wee oil filled electric heater to tide us over but the size of the room needed more than that. It was so cold. They seemed to be short staffed and the staff that were working seemed down hearted although the did their best in the current situation. We ate in the hotel at MacNabs and it wasn't great. We had ordered the MacNabs mac and cheese and got a plain dish, we would have had to wait for the black pudding and bacon to be cooked to put on top. I ordered the Chicken Balmoral and chap came through with a MacNabs burger. It would have taken 15 - 20 minutes to cook the Chicken so decided to have the burger, no bacon!!. We had already waited a good while for our starters and mains so wasn't best pleased. Chap was good enough to give us a drink but we were charged full price for the meal. The excuse given for the mix up was the chef misread the order!! Breakfasts weren't too good either. Would think twice before going back Our friends had a problem with their toilet which was over flowing so were shifted rooms, bed wasn't as comfortable as their original.

Don’t stay here ! shocking place ! dark dreary old fashioned and not clean - although beds were good:? had to eat in Bar-?little choice of food it was eatable that’s all - bland unappetising - staff young and no idea how to communicate with guests . No room service after first night and when contacted reception they said this is normal & asked what did we need ? later towels & tea & coffee sachets were delivered to room . The bar was not open until 5.30 in the evening so nowhere to sit a apart from your room which had no central heating just a plug in fire. our accessible room had a broken seat in shower & no light or shaver point above sink. All in all a miserable Wedding Anniversary experience. Very disappointing break.

When we arrived we found that our bathroom sink had a clogging problem. It was very noticeable such that housekeeping should have reported it when they last cleaned the room and it should have been fixed before we arrived. Someone showed up promptly when we called but they did not fix it. Very annoying to use the sink in that state. Room and hotel were average but the location was good.

We were unfortunate enough to be given a buyagift voucher for two nights' stay in a hotel with dinner and breakfast included. When it came to selecting suitable accommodation within a reasonable distance and without incurring an extortionate additional charge, we opted for the Columba Hotel (the Sunday and Monday night stay offering the cheapest choice at an additional £74.00). We arrived early, and as expected were allowed to leave our luggage in reception. When we enquired about the evening meal, the receptionist did not know when dinner would be served as she finished her shift at 16.00. The positives - Good location, clean room and bathroom, and housekeeping did all that was necessary. The staff were also courteous, and breakfast was fine if a little chaotic when it came to replenishing eggs and hot drinks. The negatives - The window of our room had been left open and the heating turned off. It took the best part of 24 hours for the temperature to reach a comfortable level (ironically, the corridors and stairwells were stifling). It quickly became clear that we were the only guests dining both nights (the hotel did not provide evening meals for any other guests at the time of our stay). Presumably they felt obliged to honour the terms of our gift voucher but failed miserably. The restaurant was closed so we ate in the bar. The menu was extremely limited. On our first night the soup arrived cold and had to be sent back for microwaving. The burger appeared to have been cooked sometime in the past then blitzed again prior to serving. The Cajun pasts consisted of a dish of macaroni lying in a shallow yellow sauce. Neither were worthy of a professional chef, and both proved appetising. The meal was only saved by the ice cream and cheesecake, and we decided to give the kitchen staff the benefit of the doubt on this occasion. On our second night the menu was virtually the same apart from the addition of two different mains - gnocchi in pesto sauce topped with mozzarella and the chef's salad of the day with artisan bread. The resulting meal was laughably awful. The gnocchi arrived little warmer than body temperature and minus any cheese. The salad was simply a dish of chopped iceberg lettuce, tomato, onion and a few slivers of pepper topped with a balsamic vinegar dressing (no bread). The fact that this dish of garnish touted as a main meal was priced on the menu at £14 is scandalous as is the expectation that it could be classed as a 'main'. Needless to say, we declined to attempt to eat either dish and reported our dissatisfaction to reception and the duty manager (both agreeing that this standard of catering was diabolical). The manager informed us he would take up our concerns with the parent company. 24 hours later and we are still waiting for a response. It's clear the kitchen was closed during the evening and the meals were either prepared in advance and reheated if ordered or an inexperienced junior member of staff was delegated to cater for the only two paying guests who needed feeding. We pointed out that we would have gladly found somewhere else to eat had they explained on our arrival that evening meals were not available this late in the season (and provided with an appropriate reduction in the initial cost for our trouble). We have stayed in several hotels in Inverness and wider afield and have never had cause to complain, but the fact that the Columba tried to fob us off with such a diabolical standard of catering (and presumably billed buyagift the full price for a standard half-board two-day stay) is simply unacceptable. Needless to say, we will not stay here again, and will warn everyone we know who visits the city to steer clear of this establishment.

The location was the only positive here. Cleanliness everywhere was a big issue. Wait staff were young, inexperienced and the dishes were dirty at breakfast. The lighting was so dark and the hallways had many doors and unexpected steps causing a tripping hazard. The restaurant was in the basement, nothing to make you want to sit there for dinner. The plastic cup in the room was so cheap it couldn't hold water without you bending the cup. Our window to the room was nailed open, fortunately it didn't rain. We stayed 3 nights. It was a sad disappointment. There are other hotels nearby that looked more appealing.
