Hotel isn't much to look at from the outside but inside was fair enough. The room was clean and tidy although all soft furnishings had been removed due to Covid restrictions and we had to ask for additional towels and pillows which again was fair enough given the circumstances.
Covid restrictions meant there were no housekeeping tasks carried out by the cleaning staff unless you requested it and we were only there two days so didn't bother. More restrictions meant the bar and restaurant were working in a limited capacity but this was well communicated and room service (which we didn't use) was offered free of charge.
Parking was satisfactory for cars but limited for motorbikes (unless you were happy to pay £6).
It's a 4/5 rating because overall we got exactly what we bargained for. If you're looking for something a bit more fancy then there's plenty of better options in Inverness providing you're prepared to pay for them which is what we usually do, but for 2 days with the motorbike this time the Mercure ticked all the boxes.

It was our midweek stay at the very beginning of the second coronavirus surge. It started with looking for the hotel car park which is situated on the other side of the main entrance and during calling the reception nobody bothered to let us know about it. At the end we had just a small trip around Inverness and along the river Ness. We left our car there only for one night because even during COVID time this car park was too small . So do not bother and park at the community multi-storey car park for the same price and a five minutes walk for your health.
The checking in was smooth with all explanation given about how to behave reasonably.
Our room on the first floor was spacious and with a view of Highlands. We could not see the river because there was an obstacle formed by an “outbuilding” and dustbins. The air condition was not working and after just few requests we were issued with an electric heater. Because of COVID regulation the room was not cleaned at all and we needed to ask for towels , soap and shower gel and even toilet rolls at the reception. We also bought breakfast which was served at tables and consisted of standard pieces of an English breakfast. The price of it was too high in my opinion.
I still must praise the staff for their efforts to run the hotel smoothly. They were all the time smiling and tried to fulfil the wishes of their customers.

Wasn’t impressed last time as I felt standards were dropping and def not impressed this time . We keep coming back here as we love the central location of the hotel and the car park for overnight parking . We always book a privilege room on the 5th floor overlooking the river Ness as these rooms are quieter than those that look into the street . It is a large spacious room with a king size bed and perks. However this time we paid the same amount ( but minus breakfast as only take away breakfast available due to COVID) and all the perks were gone! No robes and slippers , only 3 towels instead of 4, no bottled water , only 2 paper cups , wooden stirrer only 2 sachets of coffee, sugar and milk . Were not even offered a newspaper. No cushions and no throw in bed .
Basically not worth the extra money for a privilege room ..... when there are none ! This should be reflected in the price surely? ..... but it wasn’t !
We have decided to try elsewhere next time .

We have been here on 5 previous occasions now because we love to have a weekend in Inverness . Previous stays have been fine but this time the standards have definitely dropped.
We book a Privilege room and up until now it has always been on the 5th floor and on the river side ( because rooms facing the town have a lot more noise. )
This stay was not as good as previous because:-
There was no internet at all for the whole weekend.
In the room no longer do you get ceramic cups/ mugs nor metal teaspoons , nor glass tumblers This is now reduced to paper cups and wooden tea spoons and plastic glasses. ( Glad to say the bar and restaurant still use ceramic, glass and metal!)
When we arrived, there was only one roll of toilet paper with no spare so needless to say it ran out by Sunday morning . I tried to phone down several times to get them to bring some but no one answering the phone so I had to actually go down to reception to report this which was really annoying.
Also I ordered a Sunday Paper and this was not delivered to my room .someone did bring the toilet roll and paper up following me going down.
Bathroom has a silly little sink that the kettle ( be it small) does not even go under the tap to fill. There was no shelf nor hook to put toiletries on in the shower everything has to be laid on the floor of the shower.
Room only had 2 electric sockets ,so charging of phones , I pads fit bits had to be done on a rota.
The room is for two but only one robe and one pair of slippers .
At breakfast there were no fried eggs nor black pudding nor Crannachan nor raspberry coulis .
There were no cups in the basket for coffee so had to ask for cups and only one coffee machine was working
We had a deal with a 3 course meal included on one night - It transpired that you only get an allowance of £22 per person for the dinner from the a la carte OR you can have a set menu for £22 for two courses Or £25 for three .( each course has 3 choices )
So all that taken into account you cannot actually have a 3 course meal for the £22!
In all fairness , the hotel’s location is its best asset . Room was clean and bed was comfy but certainly not impressed with anything else this time.
Time to look for somewhere new I think !

We stayed for one night shortly after The Mercure reopened after Covid 19 lockdown,
Parked car at rear car park, pressed bell for entry, no answer had to walk round the front to gain access, not a good start,
We checked in and went to room 324 on third floor, walls were pretty dark and dingy with its brown emulsioned walls, the writing desk was absolutely filthy , when you put your hand on it , it was very tacky and sticky.when my wife went to use the toilet there was no toiletries supplied, we called reception and someone came up with one little bottle of shower gel and one bottle of shampoo, when I checked out I went to reception and asked why there were no toiletries I was told it was due to Covid 19, that they were not left in room, I then asked what happens if you want to use the toilet, receptionist said “ that’s a good question” when I told her I had asked for a bar of soap previously I was told there were none available? She said we have plenty, looked in the drawer and you guessed it and none was to be found. A manager (I assume) was standing near by and intervened and try to justify the no toiletries policy, he never had an answer for the toilet poser that I had mentioned and also said there was plenty of bars of soap although not one bar was seen or shown to us.
You would think in the current climate hotels would have a strict hygiene policy in place but not The Mercure Inverness, who over looked a very serious health and hygiene matter. To top it all off no receipt was available as our printer was down???
Last time at the Mercure Inverness, if you are thinking of staying here make sure you take your toiletries and some cleaning products for the desk top.

Booked direct with Mercure Inverness as excellent price and reviews on location good too. Were not disappointed. Although hotel looks a bit tired when you arrive at the car park, once inside the hotel is well presented and room spotless and modern. Do not pay parking charges when you arrive at the car park, tell reception you are parked in the car park and you will pay reduced rates. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend and will be back.

We stayed at the mercure for 4 nights in a privileged room costing us £400 including breakfast for 2 people.
The reason we chose the mercure over the other hotels we looked at was because it has a gym. When we arrived at the hotel, we discovered they haven't had a gym since July even though it is still advertised on booking sites and even on the tv in the room at the time we were there so I do feel we booked under false pretences. We were offered passes to a leisure centre but as I workout daily and my partner doesn't, it wasn't appropriate for me to wake him up every morning to drive me to a leisure centre before breakfast.
Other minor issues were the lack of sockets in the room. (one double socket for the whole room) We borrowed an extension cable from the hotel so it wasn't a big problem. The room had no lights in the ceiling so we had to make do with the lamps. This would be less of a problem in the summer. In general, the hotel is showing signs of wear.
The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were all friendly and helpful. We were happy with the breakfast.

On arrival, we had to wait about 20 minutes to check in as there was only one receptionist on duty, checking guests in and answering the phone. This was the case throughout our 3 night stay, only one receptionist on duty dealing with guests in person and answering the phone. The lack of staff and service was blamed on Covid, even though lockdown ended 2 months prior to our visit. The room was very sparsely furnished, too hot and noisy and WiFi was almost non-existent. We were given 2 paper cups, 2 tea bags, 2 sachets of instant coffee, 2 sachets of sugar and 2 of milk. Not enough for one night, let alone 3. The room was not serviced at all during our stay, again blamed on Covid. I don’t mind making my own bed, but I would have liked clean towels and a clean bathroom every day. By the end of our stay, the bathroom was a bit disgusting, the washbasin felt like it had been pebble dashed! We had to phone reception to ask for clean towels, tea, coffee and milk every day, but getting an answer was a nightmare. One day, I had to resort to phoning from my mobile to try to get a reply from reception - I thought there might be more chance of a response if they thought it was an external call. I still had to wait ages for a reply, and then waited an hour for clean towels etc. When they weren’t forthcoming, I had to call reception from my mobile again to remind them. I think the staff were doing their best under trying circumstances, but the stay wasn’t pleasant. It was all the more disappointing because we stayed in the same hotel about 4 years ago and really enjoyed it.

After a disappointing start to our break, because our original hotel was so bad that we had to move. We went down to see if there were any rooms available, and the lovely lady at the reception called Lexie, was so helpful, she offered us a room for the two nights that we had left for £270. My partner had signed up a while back, As a member, but because we were booking the room on site, we couldn’t get the usual discount that we’d normally get on-line. So the receptionist said that she’d upgrade us, from the smaller room to a superior room, which was an amazing size, with a large king size bed. The shower was a walk in shower with a rain effect shower and a small shower head for rinsing yourself. We had terrific views looking over the river ness. As well as the upgraded room, Lexie also gave us a couple of free drinks vouchers, for the bar, after hearing about our disappointment with the first hotel. All the staff in the mercure are lovely, very friendly and very helpful. We would highly recommend this hotel, it’s right in the middle of the town centre, and only a few minutes walk from the railway station. We both really appreciated what Lexie and all the other staff did for us, and we will be forever grateful. We will definitely return to this hotel, the next time we are up in Inverness.

Booked a Privilege Room after staying in one in the Mercure in Edinburgh which was lovely. This however was a total let down. This is how they are described on Mercures own website:

‘Our Privilege Rooms are beautifully refurbished in sleek, contemporary style for some refinement during your trip to Inverness.

Amenities include a newspaper, fluffy bathrobes, comfy slippers, your very own Nespresso coffee machine, HD TV, high-speed WiFi and more.

Our Privilege Hotel Rooms at Mercure Inverness all have one double bed and can sleep up to two guests, with enchanting views of the River Ness or our characterful Old Town.’

The room was old and tired, not refurbished. Apparently they only have a couple of the refurbished privilege rooms in the whole hotel so this is terribly misleading. No newspaper, bathrobes or slippers. Possibly due to Covid although I don’t see why a robe and slippers can’t be provided. The view was of dirty roofs of the buildings across the road.

We complained at reception and they were very helpful and apologetic but could only offer us a compact room as an alternative. We decided to check out and they gave us a full refund. We went to Pentahofel just round the corner which was almost half the price and 100% better. The staff were very kind and apologetic and a credit. The girl at reception was very understanding - I suspect this is not the first time she has heard this complaint.

Please do not believe their false advertising. See photos for what we expected vs reality.

The hotel doesn’t organise trips at all as far as I am aware , but it would be easy to catch a service bus to Culloden. Or if there are a couple of you you could share a taxi .
