We stayed here on the way to Orkney. The room was ok but small and very tired. Tiny double bed. Lamp shades all cracked. We were given a family room which had a a joining room with bunk beds. I'm not sure where we would have put out case of we hadn't had this other space. Food in the bar...

The Pentland Hotel is working hard to upgrade after what has probably been many years of under-investment. The public areas were very nice, with the bar/restaurant and the reception area with a nice big fireplace and comfy seating both being highlights. The bar and reception staff were all very helpful and welcoming. However, our room was rather disappointing. The en-...

Lovely hotel, friendly helpful staff, great breakfast with cold buffet selection and hot food cooked to order. Roaring cosy fire in the lobby. Lots of character and an old classic decor and feel to it!

This is the sort of property that I love; it is an older hotel, managing to bridge the social gap between today and yesteryear; the decor is all of a certain age, mostly in good condition, some showing their age. The lobby is lovely; warm, inviting and dominated by some comfortable chairs surrounding an open fire; the lighting gentle, and...

Driving through Thurso decided to stay at the Pentland, greeted by very friendly receptionist who swiftly checked us in. We booked a table for dinner in the evening and judging by the lounge and dining room it is also popular with the locals, food was good and plentiful. The only gripe we had was the radiator in our room would...

The carvery food and dessert selection was excellent and amazing, very tasty and plenty of it. It was, however, overpriced. Possibly an increase in price for Mothers Day. the decor does not seem to have changed in years and could do with brightening up a bit.

Firstly this is not what you would call a great hotel, but it is a nice location with lots of free parking. Check in was swift and smooth and we were soon on our way to our second floor room. It was immediately apparent that both the room and the corridors were far too warm, but turning down the valve...

This hotel is badly in need of upgrade. Worn carpets - decoration obviously required. There have been comments made regarding ongoing work being carried out - there was absolutely no indication of this!! The hotel is shabby although clean. Staff very pleasant. Lastly: expensive for what you get - bearing the above in mind...

I ordered the lasagne and a side of cheesy garlic bread. The meal was served quickly and looked nice. However I would have to say the garlic bread was the best part of the meal. The lasagne was tasteless and far to much pasta to meat ratio. The service after this went extremely down hill. Staff were more interested in...

Stayed here for one night with my friend, we were at a wedding reception in the hotel. The room was lovely, charming, comfortable, beds were very comfortable, however the bathroom let the hotel down, as the shower over the bath leaked badly, water spurting everywhere. The radiators were able to be turned up or down for the required heating. Breakfast...
