The Premier Inn Glasgow City Centre South hotel offers a cozy atmosphere and comfortable beds that many travelers appreciate, though some find the decor dated and question the value due to additional fees and food quality concerns. While praised for its proximity to the city center, the location presents challenges with parking and some guests consider the walk to attractions lengthy. Cleanliness receives mixed reviews, with updated rooms earning high marks and others flagged for maintenance needs.
Service experiences also vary, ranging from friendly to unprofessional. Noise from ongoing construction has been a point of disruption for numerous guests.

Detailed Reviews
We used this hotel as a base for our stay in Glasgow as it is easily accessed from both the M74 and M8 on the south side of the Clyde. It also has a large carpark at a discounted rate for hotel guests and is just a 10 minute walk from the city centre. The nearby Glasgow Green is easily accessible and a great area for a walk by the river
Check in by the friendly team member on reception was quick and efficient. We were given a room on the ground floor in the “extension” which due to building work required exiting the hotel and a short 30m walk to the entrance. Not really an issue when the weather was fine.
The room was presented to the usual PI standards though as it only had a very small window it was very dark. Tea and coffee were in plentiful supply.
The bed was very comfortable and we slept soundly every night. Ballater street runs close to the hotel but traffic noise was not an issue.
House keeping is on request and the only issue we had was in obtaining fresh towels as there is no heated rail to dry towels used for showering.
The bathroom was to the usual PI high standards and was adequately stocked with toiletries
We had breakfast each morning. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed, though on some occasions we had to wait for several minutes to be seated as staff were busy clearing and laying tables. The buffet was always well stocked and for once the chef had adopted a “little and often” approach to keeping the cooked items available resulting in freshly cooked eggs and bacon.
At busy times there were queues for coffee and toast. There is only one coffee machine which while providing a very good brew does take a minute or so to execute the cycle. Toast was available from 2 pop-up toasters which were slow and by nature of limited capacity.
Other than breakfast we did not eat in the restaurant preferring to walk in to the many restaurants in the Merchant City
We were very happy with our stay and will use this hotel as our base again when we are next in Glasgow

Room clean, bed comfy. Conveniently located just a short walk from Glasgow Cross, close to Merchant City and very handy if attending a gig at the Barrowlands. Breakfast nice.
If you wanted to sightsee your just a short walk from the People's Palace.

Premier Inn, you get what you pay for! We stayed here for the weekend. We stayed in a room that was separated from the main hotel, the room was spacious and clean, and most importantly, the bed was extremely comfy. The bathroom consisted of a bath and overhead shower, which makes a refreshing change to just a shower. We opted for the pre-booked all you can eat breakfast, plenty of choice, couple of issues the cooked food wasn't hot only slightly warm maybe that was down to the time we went down also the toaster was out of order, which made things a little harder.. The staff did offer toast things and microwave pancakes, but some of the staff made you feel like you were putting them out... I dont think this was any fault of their own, I just think the place was understaffed. Staying that the reception staff were very accommodating and the restaurant staff the previous night when we ate couldn't do enough, again service was a little slow but again I think this was more to higher demand than the staffing levels.. Great place for us, easy access to and from the city, 10/15 mins walk from Glasgow Central Station. 10 Mins in a taxi to Celtic Park, easy access to Glasgow Airport! The only issue we found parking! This is chargeable at ÂŁ6 per night if you get the voucher from the hotel reception. Although there are disabled spots, there needs to be closer to the doors. Please note that blue badge holders still need to pay for parking! We will most likely return when we are back up this way. Hopefully, they will have sorted the staffing issues out by then and upgraded the toasters.

Walked in to be checked in and was told check in isn’t until 3pm I said I’ve paid extra for early check in, no other words were spoken but to be given my room number and details for breakfast, unwelcoming from the start. Walked in to a dirty room, stains on the table, bedding ripped, black marks all over the base of the shower and dirty hand prints all over the back of the door. Went to speak to reception… We don’t have another room we’re fully booked so I’ll get housekeeping to go and clean it, no apology or anything. While I was downstairs the head housekeeper walked into my room where my daughter was without knocking. Then was asked oh you want the room clean I said yeah i have a list of things to which no one asked where the problem areas were. I then had to ask her clean the table as she was grabbing her things to leave she said I’ll be back I stood at the door and heard her say something to another staff member in a different language and laughed. Then came back in with a pink cloth and wiped the table. Pink clothes are for TOILETS!!! So I went and spoke to the duty manager who was very apologetic and said she’d have a word with her and send someone back to the room, which was fine the things that were missed originally were then cleaned. Later that night after returning for the night about 11 we realised our door would lock but if you pushed the handle down to open the door it would open although it was meant to be locked. So a member of staff came up and we checked no one can gain access from outside which they couldn’t not even staff so that was fine, bed is comfortable and got a good night sleep but I will never go back there and will look at other budget hotels like travel lodge or holiday inn express from now on. I paid £108 for this night away and ideally I would have had a refund and went somewhere else. Never felt so unwelcome in a premier inn before and I travel a lot.

Location of hotel really good. On arrival 28th February 2025 we booked to have dinner at the hotels restaurant at 18.15 it wasn't very busy so even better with having a 3 and 5 year old. We ordered straight away and were still waiting on our children's starters and hour later they finally came an hour and a half after ordering only to be thrown on a plate. At 20.35 we ended up walking out of the hotel still not receiving our main courses and with 2 very hungry and tired children we couldn't wait any longer. Considering the restaurant was dead and not busy at all this type of service is unacceptable. The staff were very apologetic and we did get our drinks and breakfast refunded in the end. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were alot colder than a normal premier inn radiators are very small for the size of the room. Probably not a hotel we would return to unfortunately.

Nice hotel well located for Barrowlands ball room our destination and short walk to centre
Typical premier Inn styling comfortable bed and decent shower ,paid for parking plentiful
Room a little cold on arrival but quickly heated up with heater on and boosted again in morning seems to default to 16 degrees but this is maybe a good thing for environment and heat loss as not heating a empty room and do not like room to hot overnight so turned to 16 anyway
Breakfast was good better than other premier inn stays fresh poached eggs nice and fresh cooked hot breakfast,no all bran or bran flakes only slight gripe .
Room could use some usb charger sockets especially at bed side and a electric vehicle charger station would be a nice touch but some nearby including sister premier Inn about 1 mile away and Spring field Quay

Premier Inn offers a good standard of budget accommodation. But this hotel is best avoided.
1. There are no ground floor rooms and the only lift was out of order for 24 hours during our stay. My partner has mobility problems and found it very difficult indeed there were other people who were older with more severe walking difficulties and they were having big difficulties. It's totally unacceptable. The hotel should be advertised as not suitable for anybody with a walking difficulty.
2. If you travel by car, the car parking is inadequate for the number of rooms. We have stayed here a few times because the location suits us but if you arrive back at the car park in the late evening (we had no choice about that) there's often no parking left. We had to park in a too tight gap between two cars making it difficult for the driver to get in and out of either car, or drive over the kerb and park in the paved area near the reception. There's no other suitable parking near the hotel. We had the same problem three nights in a row. NB we have a small car, not a bloatmobile, but it was still difficult.
3. There is a vending machine for snacks but it only has dreadful sugary junk food. We just wanted a packet of ordinary biscuits to have with a cup of tea but no luck. The only thing that was half-way acceptable was a KitKat bar but they ran out of those so there was nothing we found acceptable for 24 hours.

Feel so sorry for the staff here; I stay here regularly with work and often in the evenings there are only two staff members. Recently I've noticed that during dinner service there is only one staff member dealing with busy restaurant & reception at the same time, often explaining that the manager is upstairs dealing with an issue. I've seen staff become upset, cry, get frustrated at trying to do everything all at once whilst on their own! No wonder there are always new staff members when I come to stay, you couldn't pay me enough to work in those conditions! How safe can this be for the staff? I asked a staff member on a recent visit if this was a regular occurrence and they say almost every week they're short staffed in this way!
I also want to say that every time I have stayed in this hotel, something has been broke. Sometimes its the lift (I've seen this break down more than once and now always request a lower floor as I do not trust it and prefer the stairs), the card machines often don't work, food runs out on breakfast, almost every time i stay there the staff are unable to cut keys as machines aren't working so staff members have to let all hotel guests into the rooms (imagine that's why there's only ever one poor member of staff in the restaurant).
Despite all this, rooms are always cleaned to a high standard, the housekeeping staff always greet you (Ornela and Linda are always so friendly) and the reception and restaurant staff are always friendly and professional despite what they have to deal with, especially Sophia, Sasha and Adam. I just hope the company bucks up its ideas soon before it loses these exceptional staff members!

Upon arrival I had spoke to reception and asked if we needed to book a table for an evening meal and was told we didn’t need to book we could just turn up. Upon arriving at the restaurant we were told they were unable to accommodate us due to the chef only ordering enough food in for the tables that were booked in. We also got woken up very early in the morning by the bin men outside. We also didn’t request anyone to come for house keeping but someone still walked in to my room without even knocking the door seconds after I had got out of the shower. Very disappointing.

I stayed at Premier Inn South with 3 friends while in Glasgow to watch Celtic. We arrived early & left our bags with the receptionist & checked in after the match. All the staff are extremely friendly & made our stay an enjoyable experience. The bed was very comfortable & no noise from the corridors considering it was a Saturday night & the breakfast in the morning was just what we needed. Overall we would recommend Premier Inn South.

Don't think so but best give them a ring
About a ten minute walk.
It depends what you want a view of. There are no real views, except that of the Mosque next door. This would mean it might be busy during Ramadan. However, we were on the 2nd floor and the sunset was so amazing that my daughter got excellent photos of the sunset.
ill be arriving earlier than my partner, he wont arrive until after 10pm because of work, is that ok
Email or phone the hotel to ask them
Yes if they have spare rooms it’s a busy one but is large so should be ok
