Room very comfortable but not enough light to read. Shower good but large bathroom had only a towel rail to heat it so was pretty cold. Breakfast was a bit of a free for all and there were no pastries or preserves. That said, I would stay again.

Hotel's Favourite
Being a coach tour driver, I stay in alot of IHG hotels and I’m always delighted by the quality of their hotels, facilities and staff, my experience staying in IHG hotels are always a great pleasure and the voco grand central in Glasgow is one of my favourites. The hotel is certainly grand and lives up to its name, it’s the most beautiful, grand and elegant hotel I’ve stayed in so far. The staff are amazing, helpful and always welcoming. The various rooms I’ve stayed in have all been amazing too, the cleanliness of the rooms are exceptional and the cleaning staff do a tremendous job and should be rightly appreciated too. The restaurant and bar are top class and I always enjoy a night cap looking out onto the train station, which is an amazing view in itself…. I would just like to quickly mention that After staying in the holiday inn express, terminal 4, Heathrow, two nights before (also an IHG hotel) and having a really bad experience there. I was lied to, spoken to inappropriately and treat like scum by the night manager and staff, I’ve made a formal complaint regarding there behaviour as I believe it doesn’t matter who walks through your hotel door, everyone should be treat with the respect that they would expect if they were staying in an hotel, (which I’m still shocked by) the grand central hotel has restored my faith in IHG hotels. I would recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone staying in Glasgow. You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent check in by Claire, nice and smooth, checked in and room card in less than 5 minutes, unlike the debacle at the nearby Kimpton who took 25 minutes!!

327 was a nice room, nice city view of Wellington St, room was quiet and well soundproofed. What was bizarre was the complimentary bottle of “tap water” left on a table at ambient temperature - what’s the point ?? Would have been a real touch of class for a mini fridge to be in room and a few welcome Scottish goodies, I didn’t really want a glass of ambient tap water at 2.00am but a cold can of Irn Bru would hit the spot.

Breakfast room - in the main salon, from what we could see, there was only 1 x 4 slice toaster, maybe you had another elsewhere but the queue for toast was 4 or 5 deep at points - needs to be addressed !

Breakfast was very good, great choice of food, and plenty of it, all well served by your attentive staff, really top notch scran to start your day.

Gripe and a big one - The Champagne Bar, is way too busy and with some inexperienced bar staff, I asked for 3 different gins, allegedly didn’t have any of them, then they had no raspberries / but the person next to me, who was served after me got what I asked for with raspberries. When I eventually got a 4th choice gin, the bar attendant didn’t know how to charge the bill to my room, he even asked me what I meant and had to ask a supervisor to assist, perhaps some staff training is required here !

Despite being a resident, apparently this means nothing as we couldn’t get a table, not even a dedicated residents area, to me you are taking the cash and disregarding welfare & safety, at least take the responsibility to occasionally close the bar and allow people to enjoy their drinks rather than be jostled about the place, it was really uncomfortable and unpleasant experience, so much so it was so busy, we took our 2nd drink to our room.

Overall opinion, a really nice hotel in a fabulous location, sort out the small things like staff & mini fridges etc and it will be an excellent hotel.

The hotel is nice enough, nothing amazing but comfortable. The staff is friendly, attentive and wants to help. Unfortunately they’re more interested in making money from parties than they are about the comfort of the guest. Everyday we’ve been here there have been hundreds of very loud drunken party goers all over the lobby and first two floors. Drunk groups of young men who are intimidating, territorial and looking for trouble. The restaurants are all taken over and not available so you’re not welcome to stay close. Also, the location is very central of course but it is gritty to say the least. I didn’t exactly feel unsafe but it’s dirty and bustling and not very nice.

The hotel sits atop the Central Station so is convenient for anyone arriving to Glasgow by train. You can access the small lobby from the concourse, marked mainly as Champagne Bar. Our junior suite was on the top floor. First impressions were not very favourable: small internal rooms, quite dark bedroom window, with drab net curtains overlooking the structure right opposite. And it just got worse from there. Being November, the suite was very cold as the heating system wasn’t working. Reception did manage to scramble two heaters in the end but it took a whole day to warm up the three small rooms. There were no reasonable alternatives offered, like another similar room as we were told the hotel was full. The lounge/reception area had an uncomfortable settee and armchair, all dark and gloomy. The bedroom had a wardrobe that resembled a filing cabinet, there was no door in the bedroom, it lacked space overall and felt very cramped. There was a standard safety box inside the “filing cabinet”. The WiFi signal was patchy throughout our stay. The bathroom, in line with the rest of the suite, was very cold, with a cheap plastic water faucet and plug that disintegrated on the first use. There were the usual fixed wall dispensers above the bath – fortunately, we usually bring our own soap for that very reason! The toilet blocked too but was dealt with promptly. Bathrobes and slippers were provided. The breakfast room was on the ground floor, but to get there you had to alight on Floor E and then take the lift/stairs to go down. Offering was quite standard with haggis a nice touch. There was very little on offer if cooked breakfast wasn’t your thing. There was only one toaster for the whole dining room so queues formed pretty quickly. We went to the Champagne Bar one evening. All high stools, bright lights, noise and full of transient customers. Definitely not one for a romantic evening. We didn’t see any sign of efficient management anywhere in the hotel. Premium customers were left to fester. Dishes were left outside the rooms during the whole weekend, chambermaids made our bed…an hour before our departure, whilst we were at breakfast. You can draw your own conclusions. Reception staff were friendly and helpful when things were going fine, not so much when faced with any issues. A half-hearted apology, nothing else, was offered at the end of our stay and we felt we’d been very shabbily treated. Overall, one place to give a wide berth to. There is Radisson Blue just across Argyle Street that looked slick and well managed when we went for drinks there. Try that hotel instead.

Great stay. Check-in was fine, and the room was very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and courteous. My only gripe is my IHG amenity points were not awarded, and I had to fill in an online form with IHG to get them, when they should have been posted to my account on check in. Otherwise all good.

Despite the grandeur and beauty of the building, it’s amazing dropped chandeliers and elegant, champagne bar, the hotel does not live up to the expectations that no doubt it used to in a bygone age The rooms ore cold (despite whatever you do to the thermostat ). The beds and pillows average at best. The bathrooms huge, but seemingly missing the furniture, that would’ve made it into a real room rather than a soulless vacant hanger. Breakfast is a disaster, in a layout designed for a buffet there is a massive queue as each plate is individually served to save the cost that might be incurred with someone taking a little too much. There is even a queue to get in the room, to get in the queue for the food that that is mediocre at best. I ordered some some poached eggs, which they said they would bring to my table. When they hadn’t arrived after 20 minutes, i queued again only to discover they had been cooking for the whole period and were inedible, so was promised another set …which also never arrived. Smarter people than me hung around by the server refusing to leave, till any bespoke requests were finished. I now understand why. To be fair the champagne bar is fun, the building a treasure and the staff friendly, otherwise this rating would be lower. So the hotel is worth a visit, I just wouldn’t suggest staying there.
