Voco Grand Central Glasgow, an IHG Hotel, is often celebrated for its luxurious atmosphere, merging classic charm with modern elegance, and its prime location above Glasgow Central Station, making it a hit for train travel and city exploration. Guests commend the hotel's cleanliness and the comfortable beds, though experiences with noise level and value for money are mixed.
While the staff's friendliness and professionalism receive accolades, some travelers mention service inconsistencies. The varied breakfast and USB charging points are a hit, yet the absence of a gym is noted.

Detailed Reviews
Did I mention how stunning this place is? It is, without a doubt, one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in.
It is located at the end of the train station, and if you come by train (or just nip through the station) there is a back entrance, so you do not get wet if it is raining, or have to walk far. Despite the location, there was no train noise at all, although I suspect this is helped by the trains being at the other end of the platform. The staff are amazing – we are talking that perfect balance of highly trained and professional, and yet friendly and welcoming, and that was true of every member of staff that I spoke to. The hotel itself is beautiful, and comes from a time of classic elegance, which is sympathetically maintained.
The room I stayed in was gorgeous, with high, airy ceilings, and lots of light from the huge windows. The layout was well-thought-out with tea and coffee making facilities and a safe tucked out of sight, and a television that could be seen with ease from either the sofa or the bed. The bed was massive and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was an excellent size, with plenty of decent fluffy towels and good quality toiletries. The air conditioning came with notes on how to set the temperature and the fan speed (the on switch is on the top), and it worked properly and effectively. There were a good number of plug sockets, and they were placed exactly where they needed to be. We were here for a special occasion and that was acknowledged, which was a lovely touch.
We ordered room service for dinner and although the portion sizes were quite small, it arrived quickly, was tasty and it was hot. Breakfast is a help yourself buffet with an incredible selection of food, which again was hot, fresh, and replenished frequently. If you wanted something else, you do have to pay an additional fee, which is fair enough, as you are taking a chef away from the role he/she should be doing. The only slight issue here is that it is a bit of hike to the room where breakfast is served, and that does include two or even three flights of stairs. I did spot a lift to one side, but I do not know if that is for public use.
I would stay here again in a heart-beat, and I am already making plans to take my mum there for a few days, as I know she will love it. Highly recommended.

Hotel's Favourite
Being a coach tour driver, I stay in alot of IHG hotels and I’m always delighted by the quality of their hotels, facilities and staff, my experience staying in IHG hotels are always a great pleasure and the voco grand central in Glasgow is one of my favourites. The hotel is certainly grand and lives up to its name, it’s the most beautiful, grand and elegant hotel I’ve stayed in so far. The staff are amazing, helpful and always welcoming. The various rooms I’ve stayed in have all been amazing too, the cleanliness of the rooms are exceptional and the cleaning staff do a tremendous job and should be rightly appreciated too. The restaurant and bar are top class and I always enjoy a night cap looking out onto the train station, which is an amazing view in itself…. I would just like to quickly mention that After staying in the holiday inn express, terminal 4, Heathrow, two nights before (also an IHG hotel) and having a really bad experience there. I was lied to, spoken to inappropriately and treat like scum by the night manager and staff, I’ve made a formal complaint regarding there behaviour as I believe it doesn’t matter who walks through your hotel door, everyone should be treat with the respect that they would expect if they were staying in an hotel, (which I’m still shocked by) the grand central hotel has restored my faith in IHG hotels. I would recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone staying in Glasgow. You won’t be disappointed.

The Voco Grand Hotel is a stunning 19th century 'Queen Anne style' landmark. From the grand oak-carved staircase to the glittering chandeliers, every detail feels iconic. Our spotless premium room with King size bed was luxurious, with modern amenities while preserving the character of the space, including its towering ceilings and large windows. I just loved the colour scheme of the room.
The breakfast buffet was excellent and varied including - endless freshly baked pastries, a jam dispenser and a pancake making machine.
Navigating the staircases to breakfast felt a bit like a maze. One of the two main elevators was out of order throughout our stay which allowed us to get in a few extra steps—which helped offset some indulgences!
Despite this, the experience was unforgettable, and the hotel’s grandeur made our stay truly memorable.

Stayed at the hotel for one night to visit the Christmas market.Check in was a breeze and as I am an IHG member we got an early check in, the staff were very friendly too. We had a room on the 4th floor overlooking the station it was bright, clean and wifi was good,it was pretty quiet too. We had a Deal that included dinner and breakfast. Dinner arrangements could have been better we were told we could only have dinner in the champagne bar and were limited to a £25 credit for each guest, that just about covered it but we still ended up having to pay extra. Breakfast was a shambles, busy beyond belief. A queue to get in for breakfast that went out of the restaurant and up the stairs and a queue for the hot breakfast as you cannot help yourself it has to be played by one member of staff, yes one! If they sorted breakfast and dinner it would have been five stars. Having said that I always tend to use this hotel when in Glasgow as it’s convenient and most of the things you might want to do are within walking distance.

The hotel is great overall but is let down in a few key areas. The high ceilings are really nice, as are the enormous corridors. The central staircase is enchanting and the general decor is a nice historical Glaswegian touch. The staff we interacted with were all polite and keen to serve. The location inside the train station was very charming as our room looking into the station, but the windows were good enough to block out all noise. However, we had our laundry damaged which was costly a caused a lot of inconvenience to our trip. And frustratingly IHG didn’t credit us the nights in their loyalty program because we had apparently booked with a discounted rate. We just booked through Expedia and had some of the biggest rooms available. I understand that they can run their loyalty program however they see fit, but it left a nasty taste and will certainly drive me towards hotels with better programs.

This is now my fifth visit to this hotel, working with the railways it's in a great location right above Glasgow's Historic Grand Central Station.
I have stayed during the hotels Principal years and now into its Voco era and all I can say is that it's a beautiful building that's has been sympathetically modernised with an old fashioned flair. The staff are excellent and really happy to help with anything you may need. To be recognised and welcomed back by the ever helpful reception team was great.
Bedrooms are spacious, well designed and have great bathrooms, a particular favorite of mine are the King Premium rooms that come complete with a deep bath and naturally lit bathroom. The room as always was immaculate and had all the nice little things that show this is a premium hotel.
Bar & restaurant are reasonably priced, food is quality and freshly prepared and I loved breakfast in the morning! Cooked to order and as Billy Connely once said, there is nothing better than a Glaswegian Square Sausage in the morning over a pot of something hot!
A great hotel with a great team of staff that I would have no hesitation in recommending. I look forward to returning!

Recent stay on the 1st December 2024. We have stayed at the hotel many times and enjoyed the vast majority however noticed a drop standard / service with recent stays to extent our most recent will be our last. The room was the usual high standard regarding space and cleanliness however we noticed on the morning of leaving the kettle didn’t work (was the first time we tried to use it). The WiFi did not work on either my wife’s or my phone. Breakfast was just totally acceptable. 10-15 minute wait for toast, then a 20 minute plus wait for “hot” food. Hit buffet was most cold and on each occasion either my wife or I attended there was at least 2 or 3 hot options unavailable. Tables were squeezed into areas of the dining room where they hadn’t been previously m as king the whole experience unpleasant. There was one toilet for the full dining room so even using the bathroom meant standing in another queue and another wait. The most ridiculous thing in my opinion was that there was no butter available. Several guests including myself had asked only to be told there was none and only flora was available. No apology, just told bluntly no. We are fortunate enough to travel regularly and never have I encountered a breakfast where butter had ran out. It’s a city centre hotel, could someone not have purchased some from a nearby shop. I would have raised these concerns on check out however I wasn’t even asked how my stay was and the staff member at reception appeared keen just to get rid of us. Totally unacceptable service / experience given the nightly rate.

Under the new operators, this hotel has now been nicely refurbished to some of its former glory.
Checkin was friendly albeit not informative on the hotel’s facilities. And little in the way of recognition as an IHG Rewards Gold member. Arriving after a 30+ hour journey, which I advised check in staff of, I was disappointed to find the first room allocated was on the first floor directly above the function area. With afternoon Christmas parties in full swing to music and DJ commentary, I requested a room change.
Located on the 4th floor, the new room was quieter, with a small shower room (compared to the larger bathroom in the original room). With aircon heating on full, the room was still cold - staff provided a heater on advising them.
I didn’t use the bar or restaurant.

Horrible experience with night manager having no sense of customer relations and listening.
When we booked we requested 2 connected rooms so that our children aged 5 and 7 could sleep in their room and us in ours but while keeping our doors open… they explained to us that they did not have one but had 2 communicating rooms (higher level than desired) with a private airlock accessible with 1 and the same key… ok we accept because despite the price it seems to correspond to our request.
The whole family was sleeping when a gruff and aggressive manager burst in at 1 a.m. opening the door to our “private” airlock. They woke us up in the middle of the night to tell us that the bedroom doors had to be closed and the airlock door open (for security reasons!!!)
We explained to him that we had our children sleeping in the other room and he told us to take one to put in our bed so that an adult would be in each room… what a C****** !!! Beyond the HUGE mistake, he had to wait until 1am to tell us that… completely shameful!!!!! We had to comply (I couldn't see myself changing hotels in the middle of the night!)
In addition their King room was very noisy

Very pleased to discover that this massive old hotel on Glasgow Central station has been upgraded and renovated without losing the character of the original - I was afraid it would be bland and corporate, but no, the restoration has respected the original. We stayed for three nights and had a great time - the location is perfect if you are a train traveller and all the Glasgow attractions are either outside the door or within easy reach.
The staff here are excellent - extremely helpful and gave us a free upgrade to a 'junior suite' comprising two rooms plus a luxurious bathroom with huge bath. There was a vase of white carnations on the washbasin - I assumed these flowers were artificial, but they were real, a nice touch.
My only query would be about the choice of grey as the dominant colour in rooms and corridors - many UK hotels seem to favour grey decoration, which is odd in a grey climate like ours. A bit of white paint here and there would lighten the effect. But this is a minor point - the hotel is generally brilliant. Would definitely stay again.

We were right by the main entrance/platforms and the room was quiet as the glass seemed to be double paned. The bathroom was not though so it was noisier in there - we just made sure the door to the room was shut. No problem.
My room didn't have any refrigerator.
As far as I can remember our room had a walk in shower.
