I can't believe all that we had at 14 Hart Street!!! The home is in the new section of Edinburgh, which is dated around the 1400's..When you arrive it is in a section of Stone Row Houses each two to three stories high and we had the Garden level, which is actually in the basement but with a direct view...

A delightful Georgian property within walking distance of the city centre. James and Angela run a very welcoming establishment, with lovely rooms, nice touches (wine, water and whiskey in the room), and lovely breakfasts.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a trip to Edinburgh and I can't recommend 14 Hart St enough! As others have said in their reviews, it's a perfect base for exploring the city and the area around has a nice atmosphere. James and Angela are great hosts and the house is thoroughly charming. I loved all the furniture,...

We stayed for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. Location was excellent for both Old and New Town. Lots of nice cafes, bars and restaurants very close by and easy walk to all the sites. The house was beautiful, a lovely breakfast room with equally lovely breakfasts. Hosts James & Angela were really welcoming and friendly. Our room has...

We stayed for two nights in April. We had such a great time. Location: The B&B is about a 20 min walk from the Royal Mile. We caught a taxi from near the castle one day and it was less than 7 GBP to the B&B. Restaurants: There are a nice selection of restaurants and pubs in the area. We...

I stayed with a friend for 2 nights in a twin room. The owners were very friendly, the room was clean and neat and the shower was powerfull and warm! Coffee and tea making facilities, bottle of water and a small bottle of wine are waiting. Breakfast is served at one big table. It was a nice way to get...

We stayed for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was lovely and well appointed and the bathroom had a fantastic shower. The polished wood floors were a little slippery (don't walk about in socks!). Breakfasts were fantastic with a good choice and if you have any special requirements, these are catered for. Great location, great B&B, would stay...

This was the highlight stay during tour of Scotland! The other glowing reviews were correct-- this might very well be the best place to stay in all of Edinburgh! The Wilson's are consummate hosts, warm and attentive, and offered excellent neighborhood information. The early 1800's building,on a quiet side street, presents itself as living history, lovingly restored and furnished in...

My daughter and I stayed with James and Angela and had a wonderful time. We were able to walk to the station where the city tour buses start. There are lots of restraunts and cafes close by. Parking was a bit of an issue. The B & B is exactly as the pictures show. I would highly recommend to friends...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
