Stayed here for our 30th Anniversary, Hotel was perfect. made us feel very welcome. Receptionist was very friendly and when we asked about local trips, she knew where they were located and which was best. Nice to have free WiFi. Would definitely stay here again.

This was a great hotel so close to the city centre. The staff were very friendly, welcoming, and accomadating. The rooms were spacious and well-equipped and very comfortable. Wifi access was easy. The bar/restaurant was nicely decorated an the selection seemed good though I only got one drink there. The only complaint I had was the shower door. It was...

We stayed here for a weekend break, it is affordable for an expensive city and tucked away from the main drag. Room was nicely laid out and comfortable but beds were hard. Staff were nice enought, but not overly helpful and breakfast was good- nice to have a veggie option for the full breakfast.

I stay in this hotel fairly frequently (due to work always putting me up here). Although the staff are always very lovely and helpful, for me, the main point of the room is to sleep and I have yet to have a good night's sleep. The bed is hard, but that's okay for me. The biggest two problems are that...

We stayed here in May 2013. The hotel was very nice, with large rooms that were very clean. We found the bed very hard. The breakfast was lovely, but very overpriced. The worst thing about this hotel was the staff. They were not very friendly or helpful at all. The man that greeted us into the restaurant in the mornings...

Thank you for your comments on your stay. We are pleased you enjoyed the breakfast. It is unfortunate that you found it to be overpriced; for next time you might like to know that breakfast is discounted when booked together with the room. We sincerely apologise if you felt the staff were not welcoming or helpful; your comments have been...

Stayed in this hotel the past 2 nights. Rooms were beautiful and decorated to a nice standard. Dinner on the first night was included in my package - very disappointing. The hotel had a large German Coach Party - so the dinning room was blocked of for them and we have to eat in the wine bar. Service was very...

Stayed at this hotel for the weekend (2 nights) and would definitely recommend it. The room was spacious and well decorated with a very large and comfortable bed perfect to fall into after a long day exploring the city. Bathroom was clean and spacious and the towels were fluffy! We were indebted to the towel rail for drying our wet...

Thank you for reviewing your stay with us, we are pleased you enjoyed your (slightly damp) weekend. We do feel our location offers the best of both worlds; close to Edinburgh’s main attractions, whilst offering peace from the buzz of the city, and we are glad you agree! Since your stay, we have made changes to the wine bar to...

This is a really good hotel and a great little find. It is a little further way than where we usually stay in Edinburgh but is still only a 15 minute walk to Waverley Station. There is also a convenient bus stop at the end of the road that has buses straight into the city. Good solid beds, spacious rooms,...

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review of your stay with us, as we take all feedback on board so we can improve our service. The hotel is indeed well connected and highly accessible, something we see as an advantage to our guests when they want to explore Edinburgh. Breakfast is available to all our guests, and...

I got a very nice room when staying at this hotel. It had everything you could possible need for one night (including an ironing table), except a minibar (never been a user myself, so that was OK also). The room was properly sized, very clean and quiet. The breakfast was good and the staff friendly but not overly talkative -...

We’ve stayed here previously but this hotel seems to be going downhill rapidly. I agree with other reviewers comments about the rooms looking tired. The carpets are dirty and the furnishings worn. The bed was also very uncomfortable, the mattress had clearly seen better days and was so saggy in the middle that we rolled into each other constantly and...

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
